4C [Official] Alfa Romeo 4C official

The Alfa Romeo 4C (Type 960) is a mid-engined sports car that was produced Alfa Romeo. Unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, the 4C was initially only available as a coupé, with a spider body style coming a few years later in 2015. The name 4C refers to its straight-four engine.

Something tells me this car can add 100 PS and lose 100 kg.

Hmmmmm... whenever I think of what it would take to make this car perfect I end up with the Cayman.... a high-revving engine, equipped with an outstanding noise ( of course we haven't heard the 4C but it's safe to assume a 4 cylinder turbo will be less aurally pleasing than a NA Porsche flat-6 ), a comfier, better made interior, and less awkward looks ( I can't stand those headlights ). Of course, the 4C could impress with superior, more exciting driving dynamics ( due to it's lighter weight ), but then again the Porsche is almost dynamically perfect, which reminds me... does the 4C use electric steering? Either way I shall reserve judgement until the first drives come out and comparison tests:)

It uses muscular steering :D

Yes, and I was amazed when I read it. If only I could buy one.

Un-assisted steering is not like all hell broke loose. It's a good thing when done properly. The feedback is undisturbed by any assisting system, you don't have to carry the extra weight of the assisting system, plus it won't burden the engine. So, it has amazing feel and it's a good step towards increasing fuel efficiency. And I'm sure that with no engine above the front axle, it won't be a problem to steer when not moving.

:)

Is it me or does this car really look cheap? It looks like a half-assed car on a shoestring budget to me. The engine for the price they're talking here doesn't make sense either.

It sounds pretty good, based on that short rev video posted by Pedro Alexandre.

Alfa Romeo 4C v.2

The sound of an Alfa is unmistakable. The designs throughout the years range from pure sex, to agressive and angular. In the end we love Alfa Romeo, and we’re extremely excited Alfa is finally coming back to US shores! We have had a few over the years including a ’69 GTV, and sister GTV6′s. Hell we even had a GTV6 engine modded to 3.8L in South Africa by an Alfa racing legend.
That being said, and to be completely honest we are a bit underwhelmed with the Alfa 4C production car shown in Geneva. The “I’m a little teapot” mirrors (why?), and the spider eye lights are a bit scary (not in a good way). We think the design is a little bit fuzzy too. Alfa claims that they were inspired by the 33 Stradale, and you can see it in some of the shapes, and especially in the wheelbase/overall size, as they are almost identical. So instead of complaining, we decided to make our own. We based our car on the same inspiration, and dimensions. This design was conceived over a weekend, so it’s by no means complete, but more of a “what if” exercise… Think of it as our Alfa Romeo 4c v.2.

You mean the interior? Yes, it feels like something that should cost a lot less. But given what Alfa Romeo used to stand for, I would be willing to buy one, even with a crappy interior, if they got the rest right.

As for the engine, yes 1.75l for 60.000 sounds too little. Then again, we are talking about 240hp for 950kg!

They probably spend the whole budget on the cf tub, which is fine, I don't mind some crappy plastic if it means <1 ton at the weigh station.

Hofmeister said it best, a cayman is actually a better value proposition, granted one does not go crzy with options

No alfa, i'm sorry but for 60,000 you cannot get away with a cheap and poorly designed interior like the pictures show. Maybe you could get away with poor design but not cheap looking, or the other way around, but certainly not both !
still the exterior has some nice curves, especially that rear end looks really nice, not a big fan of the front headlights

The interior does indeed look cheap. The area surrounding the head unit looks like it was designed entirely for something else; the unit itself has a whiff of aftermarket about it. At 2500 units per year, this is only really competing against the likes of a Lotus Elise, compared to which I reckon the interior is a slight step up.

I think you guys are being too harsh. I don't find anything wrong with the design of the interior.

Spartan and sporty, way it should be in a feather light Italian sports car. Materials might be cheap, but it is not with out it's nice touches either like the pull strap, all aluminium pedals and a proper hand brake. Compared to other light weight cars like a Elise, this is miles ahead. Yes, it not plush, but you should'n't be looking at a 900 kilo car if you are looking for a plush place to plomp your ass in, there are gazzilion cars that offer that.

In this day and age where even a GT3 weighs a hefty 1400+ kg and ridden with all sorts of gizmos, it is nice to have a back to basics car. I wish it had a manual. Also wish AR sorts out the the handling right unlike the 8C which wasn't exactly known for it's handling prowess despite all the right ingredients...

I don't say the 4C is cheap, but I won't say it is too expensive or overpriced. If there comes a Cayman R, it will have cheap plastic (yes not leather covered), black plastic surfaces (because unneccessary function buttons will be removed) and many other things less (those for which you argues favorably) and will add at least 10K, 15K if a small power increse. All the cirticism of the engine is wrong. All small performance hatches, and the 60K TT-S has a 4 cylinder turbo, so as all new BMW's which replaced their NA I6. The Porsche 981, at some point will have no more NA F6, but a FI F4. I expect then to here the same remarks (but no, it is a Porsche). Complaining about the engine? You want the 3.0l V6 making 410 PS? Ready to pay 100K? I doubt. So stop whining, anyway most will not buy this car: it's an Alfa.

That does look better, but you may be right about the purpose here. I must have been looking at a prototype earlier.

Not whining coming from this end, but a reality check for why they are targeting only 2500 units. If it were priced like the 981 with Porsche volumes in mind, this could be a real problem. I agree with Sunny's point that a lightweight sports car like this is a great alternative to Lotus (and the CF tub is unique), but comparisons against a Boxster seem destined to be the ragefests of magazine benchracers. It is not realistic for this car to be a marketplace competitor to the Porsche, and Alfa's very low volume estimate reflects that.
Yes, some buttons will be removed in a Cayman R, but that is not to say the head unit in the Alfa doesn't look aftermarket and that it looks unharminously mismatched to the housing (referring specifically to the pic in post #84).

I suppose the real thing will look somewhere between the lights of the auto show stage and the heavily massaged press photos (always adjusted for deep contrast to make the black plastics look richer).

I think you guys are being too harsh. I don't find anything wrong with the design of the interior.

The only issue one might have, is that there are many parts that are shared with other models of the lower end of FIAT Group's offerings, like the air vents and that DNA switch. It's common practice though, and I'd let them get away with it. Truth to be told, it's a very unique interior!

:)

Guys, 60 000 k is the launch edition, with carbon fiber everywhere. The standard version weights at 45K.........
