I have driven the G80 M3 Competition twice now, driving the pre LCI and then the LCI version, The first drive was on the standard suburban roads, meaning the roads are packed with horrific craters, potholes, loose gravel, speed humps etc. On my second drive, I was able to push the car through open, sweeping roads on a quiet pass through the national park.
I was truly surprised and impressed by the spread of ability of the car. Under normal daily driving conditions, the car is smooth, refined, and the ride quality is more than acceptable with the standard sports seats,. When the road condition allowed, I was able to drive the car as intended by the M division engineers. The car just flow through the corners and rocket down the straights, with complete traction offered by the X drive system.
The car felt light on its feet, yet balanced and confident inspiring. The steering is sharp, direct and responsive, I can place the car exactly where I wanted it to be. I know exactly what the front end of the car is doing, and I could trail brake later and deeper into the corner, and carrying an incredible level of speed, corner after corner. The car is rock solid under heavy braking as well. There is more to say about the car and the driving experience, however I am sure that is well covered by plenty of owners, journalists etc over the past 4 years.
One thing I will add is that the facelifted LCI version ride better and the engine felt more responsive and smoother than the pre LCI version.
I never paid much attention to the current M3, simply because of the way it looked. After the two test drives, I admit I was very wrong and I have changed my mind completely.
