For the past decade, as its competitors scrambled a fleet of capable and popular three-row crossovers, Cadillac has wandered about with just its Escalade SUV and the in-betweener XT5. In 2018, the compact XT4 joined the sedan-heavy lineup, while 2019 is reserved for the 2020 Cadillac XT6. Finally offering three rows of seats in a vehicle that isn’t technically a V8-powered pickup truck under its angular skin, the XT6, debuting Sunday at the 2019 North American International Auto Show, fills a gaping hole in the Cadillac lineup.
But while it serves an important role for Cadillac, the XT6’s position in the broader market is difficult to estimate. With 29.5 inches of legroom and 37.2 inches of headroom, the XT6 offers more third-row head and legroom than the Acura MDX (28.1/35.6) and Audi Q7 (29.2/35.9), and more headroom than the Infiniti QX60 (30.2/36.5). That’s a good start that’s improved on by a standard power-folding third row.
There is some attractive tech here, even if a headliner like Super Cruise is missing. Like the XT4, the XT6 will feature near-field pairing for compatible smartphones. Rather than tapping through menus on their phone or infotainment, owners can simply touch their phone to an icon on the dash and be good to go with Bluetooth connectivity. Owners of compatible smartphones will also enjoy fast wireless charging thanks to the 15-watt charge pad. A Bose Performance Series audio system boasts 14 speakers, while an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

What Cadillac is saying is that the XT6 will feature a 3.6-liter V6 with around 310 horsepower, while a nine-speed automatic transmission will send that power to an available twin-clutch all-wheel-drive system. That’s not a bad setup. Nor is the five-link independent rear suspension, the front McPherson struts, or the adaptive dampers at all four corners. Owners can snag 20-inch wheels as standard or opt for available 21s if they grab the XT6’s Sport trim.

Exterior is on point for a three row SUV. However the centre console is very generic and is one area which Cadillac needs to reimagine.

I like front of the car. Actually exterior doesn't look bad..for an SUV..but interior looks old
Maybe more pictures of interior later on will show better angles and more details but to me it seems Lincoln Aviator has nicer and more luxurious interior.

It looks good. Nothing groundbreaking, but its ok. Not as flashy as the Aviator. U need to wait for the Escalade if u want to see a revolutionary interior. This one is basically a long version of the Xt5....

It's tuned on Cadillac's own Escala conception car which was revealed in 2015,has nothing to do with bmw's 7er.On the contrary,Bmw 7er has been inspired by Toyota Land Cruiser LC200,especially on side profile.

I fully agree with your analysis of the current design, yes I even tend to see it more positively than you :). If your prediction turns out right, I‘m really looking forward to seeing the Escalade.

Yes, I saw them a long time ago :)

Btw, RWD based XT7 prototypes will be ready by autumn.

Car and Driver says it best: "It fails to match its competitors' luxury quotients or meaningfully set itself apart from its GMC- and Chevrolet-badged siblings."

GM's forever problem. Exterior is gorgeous I will admit, if you like the Volvo XC90 and the back of the Lexus LX570, but that interior is a complete joke for the price this thing will command. Lincoln has absolutely NOTHING to worry about, the Aviator is going to run all over this thing.

I'm pretty sure this one will outsell Aviator.

Which means nothing when Lincoln is getting big money per unit as is the case with the Navigator vs the Escalade. Most sales are the top of the line trim vs GM which is giving away Escalades. I suspect the same thing will happen here.

Hmmmm.....

I want to love it, but the profile looks like GM's other three-row CUV. It's not bad, and I like some of the details, like the grille and the fact the reverse lights are no longer on the bumper. Hallelujah! :D

However, if there was any model where Cadillac ought to have introduced a great, "revolutionary" interior that would drive sales and discussion, it ought to have been this one. This car would be premium enough to warrant it and in a segment that is seeing immense growth. Back in the day, those who bought an Escalade really wanted a vehicle like this. They only bought it because either a) it was the only car in the line-up that had that much space and utility despite not needing a body-on-frame vehicle, b) they did like luxo body-on-frame vehicle because they wanted the off-road advantages it brings, c) they liked the image it projected, or d) some combination thereof.

I would prefer the upcoming Aviator over this and, in general, the Aviator would be a car I'd consider if I was shopping for this kind of vehicle, which is not something I'd thought I'd say about a Lincoln. And that's despite knowing it's based on the new RWD Explorer platform, which I actually consider a plus.

This is a reboddied Chevy Traverse, GMC Terrain, Buick Enclave etc... etc... they're not fooling anyone. Give me an Aviator please.

Yup. It just seems real half-assed. Which is a shame, otherwise if done right, this would have had potential to print money they badly need.

Also that V6 is a pretty old lump, surprised they didn't use a TT-V6.

@John Galt, since you've seen the Escalade, how does Escalade's styling compare to the design of the electric crossover concept that was released today? That, like most Caddy concepts, looks good.
