Another new Alpina the B5 LCI. It looks to be more of a M5 CP rival now.
ALPINA B5 FACELIFT
Up to 330 km / h top speed
Alpina presents the facelift for the B5 as a sedan and station wagon. It includes more power, a revised chassis and top equipment.
Both are all-wheel drive and both get the facelift: A lpina revises both the B5 sedan and the B5 Touring. The new face can be recognized, among other things, by the 40 percent increase in front air openings, which are intended to enable optimized drive cooling. A double tailpipe sports exhaust system looks out of the rear, which produces a sonorous bass tone during operation. The Alpina Blue metallic and Alpina Green metallic paint colors are reserved for Alpina models only, although regular BMW paint colors are also available for the B5.
Inside there are comfort seats, a handmade leather-covered sports steering wheel and a rich set of navigation, infotainment and assistance systems. The instrument display offers customizable views and extended configuration options.
From October 2020 Alpina will deliver the facelift models of the B5.
Lower focus
The dampers continuously adapt to the respective driving situation in the rebound and compression stages and should allow a wide spread in their settings. The springs are now shorter and tighter, which means that the vehicle's center of gravity is lower. The Touring has air suspension on the rear axle, which enables a lowering of ten millimeters in Sport + driving mode
Alpina has re-tuned the standard all-wheel drive - it has a sporty rear-end design. For a surcharge, there is a mechanical limited slip differential that improves traction when driving in a sporty manner. Alpina Classic models in the dimensions 255/35 ZR 20 at the front and 295/30 ZR20 at the rear (for touring: 285/30 ZR20 at the rear) are used as wheels. Pirelli manufactures the tires with the manufacturer identification ALP especially according to Alpina specifications. The deceleration is handled by a Brembo system with four-piston fixed calliper brakes and 395 millimeter discs at the front and floating calliper brakes with 398 millimeter brake discs at the rear.
More power, earlier torque maximum
Alpina has also redesigned the 4.4-liter V8 engine. Its output grows from 608 to 621 hp. The torque remains at 800 Newton meters, but it is already at 2,000 instead of 3,000 rpm. Alpina achieves the performance boost above all with the help of two twin-scroll turbochargers, each of which has a diameter of 54 millimeters. The engineers also give the drive a cooling system with three external coolers, an enlarged transmission oil cooler and a low-temperature circuit for charge air cooling. Equipped with this, the B5 sedan sprints from zero to 100 km / h in 3.4 seconds, the B5 Touring can reach 100 km / h in 3.6 seconds. The sedan reaches 200 km / h in 11.3 seconds and the station wagon in 11.9 Seconds. The maximum speed of the limousine is 330 km / h,
The performance of the B5 grows to 621 hp.
Revised automatic
An Alpina-specific eight-speed automatic transmission is always responsible for shifting. The ZF gearbox type 8HP76 has received a complete overhaul of the electronics and mechatronics and should now react even faster. As standard, the gears can be engaged manually using the steering wheel buttons; matt black aluminum shift paddles are available for an additional charge.
Deliveries of the facelift variants of the Alpina B5 begin in October 2020. The starting prices are 117,700 euros for the sedan and 120,700 euros for the touring.
