The second generation of Kia's flagship model will premiere later this year.
Kia’s new model onslaught isn’t quite over yet as after introducing recent products such as the next-generation Forte and Ceed, the South Korean marque is now getting ready to make some changes at the top of the food chain. Today, we are able to take a first look at the revamped K900 courtesy of a shadowy teaser image partially revealing the fullsize sedan’s elegant side profile.

We’ve seen the car in plenty of spy shots, so when Kia will dial up the brightness of this photo, it’s unlikely we will be surprised by anything. Nevertheless, we are anxious to see the second-generation K900 since it will be going through some massive changes inside and out in an attempt to boost customer demand compared to its slow-selling predecessor.

While for the time being we only have this teaser photo to go by, the cabin is not much of a surprise taking into account a prototype was spotted on the inside back in July 2017. With sister brand Hyundai stepping up its luxury game with the Genesis brand, the K900 / Quoris / K9 will likely go down the same road by become a more upscale product to better tackle the big German trio (A8, 7 Series, S-Class) and the Lexus LS.

Unlike the current rear-wheel-drive-only K900, the new generation could be offered with AWD and we’re also expecting some changes as far as the engine lineup is concerned. As a reminder, the current car can be had with a 3.8-liter V6 rated at 311 horsepower or with a bigger 5.0-liter V8 developing 420 hp. We certainly wouldn’t mind seeing the biturbo 3.3-liter V6 being borrowed from the Stinger where it pumps out 365 hp, but that’s yet to be confirmed.

Kia says we’ll get to see its new range topper later this year, with a best-case scenario being the 2018 New York Auto Show programmed for the end of next month. That would make sense considering Kia says it will have the new K900 on sale in the second quarter of this year in some global markets.

2019 Kia K900 Shows Its Elegant Profile In First Teaser

I don't why bother with this car. Literally no one buys it. That said, it is a nice car. The Genesis G90 makes more sense though.

The only person i know that has a K900 (obviously doesn’t drive it) is Lebron James because he’s the promotional face of the car.

Other than that... crickets. I’ve never ever seen one on the road.

Kia is selling well and the K900 is actually a pretty good margin, and halo, sedan. The Koreans know what they're doing. I don't have the 2017 numbers but I would guess that the sales went to circa 3.3 million.

Are you kidding? They sold like 455 of them last year in the entire U.S., less than half of what the S-Class does in one month. That is a dismal failure. 3K a year globally is also a utter failure when your rivals are selling 60,70,80K a year. Kia does well on it's own, that isn't the point. The K900 is. The K900 makes even less sense now with the Genesis brand up and running. It's a pointless car, albeit a nice one, but totally pointless and waste of resources. Halo sedan is just an excuse.

Could you please state the source and more details? 3.000 globally is low but still justifiable if it is your halo car pulling up the rest of the range. I would argue that Genesis makes this car justifiable. Shared components with the G80 and an extra 3.000 cars doesn't sound so bad to me.

Yes from C&D:

Last year, just 455 K900 sedans were sold nationwide, down from a very modest peak of 2524 cars sold in 2015. The brand needs such a car at home and in China, where long sedans with spacious back seats are in high demand, but the U.S. market clearly has taken a pass on this offering.

King of Korea: Kia K900 Lives to Second Generation

What other details do you need? It's an unsalable product. 3K a year worldwide is beyond terrible man lol. Halo is what they're using as an excuse for it not selling.

I'm just coming in here to say that Kia already had an uphill battle coming out with a car this expensive. But worse yet, the car actually sucked. The suspension was severely underdamped and would bottom out regularly over large imperfections, particularly if there were people in the back. Look at every long-term test of this car, they all said the same thing. I wouldn't buy this car either.

It will be hard for the next generation model to do worse.

I only sat in it and found it to be ok, nice even, but then I read the reviews. Yeah they missed the mark by a country mile.

Even if it is the next best thing since sliced bread, I wouldn't just give such an amount of money for a KIA badged automobile.

The full brochure from South Korea offers a great preview of what to expect.
Kia will unveil the next-generation K900 at the New York Auto Show. You don't have to wait until the end of March to see it, though, because the new sedan's brochure is already available in the South Korean market. In its home country, Kia calls the model the K9, but the name is shorthand for a dog in many places, which forces a change in monikers.

Compared to the current K900, the new generation features headlights with arcing LEDs inside of them. There's lots of chrome in front, including the grille mesh, surround, and lower fascia trim. The profile features a mix of a long hood and short rear deck. Even more shiny chrome festoons the window surrounds, side mirrors, and long the lower body. At the rear, the taillights feature LED arches that echo the elements of the illumination in front.

Unfortunately, these elements combine to create a fairly bland looking sedan. From a company that can create a four-door as attractive as the Stinger, this is a disappointment.

Inside, a gargantuan, widescreen infotainment system dominates the cabin, and a rotary dial on the console appears to control it. Metallic buttons handle the rest of the driver's commands. A mix of leather and wood decorate the interior. The brochure shows that buyers can get red, beige, black, and brown upholstery options.

Kia's South Korean brochure only lists the engine options but doesn't provide the outputs. Buyers can get 3.3-liter or 3.8-liter V6 mills, and a 5.0-liter V8 tops the range. The V6 options are available with all-wheel drive, but there's no mention of it for the V8. An eight-speed automatic is the only listed gearbox.

In the United States, the current K900 is only available with a 3.8-liter V6 and 5.0-liter V8, so don't expect the 3.3-liter to come across the Pacific.

The existing K900 is Kia's lowest volume vehicle in the U.S. with just 455 deliveries in 2017 and 834 for the year prior. Perhaps a new generation can revive interest in the brand's big, premium sedan.

Must be nice to be able to shamelessly copy design elements from other luxury marques and face no consequences.

I see every single competitor brand in that interior... to the point where it makes me laugh.

I feel like its gotten worse! I see so many design cues taken from other brands.

Let's go through the list....

Exterior:
- Lincoln Conti grille
- Hoffmeister kink
- M-B/Bentley rear lights
- quasi rip-off of the 7er hockey stick strip
- M-B headlights

Interior:
- recent Audi A8 steering wheel
- center console and dash is a combo of BMW and previous gen A8.
- if I am being less than generous, the center screen similar to the 7er and 5er, but that seems to be commonplace across many other cars.

I am sure I am missing something, but I didn't feel like staring too long with risking my repeated gagging leading to vomitting.

maybe the last line was mean and undeserving, but this lack of coffee for the last 10 days has me especially cranky today.

And:
- BMW G11 door mirrors
- Maserati QP air vents
- BMW G11 Speaker grills
- D4 Audi lower center console

And that's just from that one interior shot. Pretty sickening honestly, but we live in a copy-what -you-want society. Kinda of the Korean industrial philosophy, but I don't want to come off sectarian.

Well, considering that Hyundai/KIA pretty much recruited talent almost exclusively from the German makes, I am not too surprised. I am sure this is part of their design directive.

That said, the Stinger is indicative that they can come up with something that's their own. Though the Stinger has some poached design elements as well, i.e. Maserati rear lights, A7 profile, etc. But when seen as a whole, it comes off as unique and palatable.

Looks like a bimmer.

Looks like everything.

I bet they've bought a huge stand next to BMW & MB at the NY auto show next week and will have people tap-dance on stage to attract attention at this thing's premiere. Hyundai basically did that last year with Genesis.

Not a fan, it looks like some big cheap nissan/camry sedan for USA. Genesis G90 looks better and more expensive.
