If the 4-cyl did not have CVT, this would be a no-brainer when purchasing a nice, dependable family sedan. But part of me thinks that Honda would make a reliable CVT and still incorporate some feel to it.

Now I would definitely look at other options as well before deciding, esp. the upcoming Mazda6, VW Passat (the more I see it, the more I like) and I'd at least walk in the Ford Dealer to check out the Fusion. But I agree with you, HoH, I'm still not 100% convinced on their dependability. Same thing with regards to the Sonata and Optima....I might walk in the dealer to check out either one of them, but I know I would not pull the trigger on either one of the Korean cars. I would have to see how they hold up in the next 4-5 years before I'm truly convinced those cars are legit.

Indeed it looks better than the latest Camry, but being European, I have to ask, what is its competition in the US?

In the US Accord's competition is from Camry and Nissan Altima. There have been years when Accord was best selling but that is history as Camry and Altima are ahead in US sales. Hyundai is the new Honda in US.

Just like Toyota, all Honda is doing now is refreshing their last generations with new faces. Handy window for competition.

I mean it doesn't look BAD by any means. Just.... I dunno.... maybe just what this segment needs? The Altima looks terrible and homely, the Korean cars are more exciting in this segment, but like HOH said, that "daring" styling has got them to get tiring to the eyes faster, and the Camry.... well, I think it's okay but a downgrade from the previous model. Too uptight and sharp angled.... though, that alone makes it stand out a bit in a segment of all rounded soft-edged cars now.

This Accord just doesn't make me "want" it, but this segment isn't about "want". I just think that the design is very uninspired. As if Honda just doesn't care any more. It barely holds its own identity.

The biggest issue with Honda is how people are criticizing the build quality now. The Civic is being panned seemingly universally for a crude and harsh.... and loud ride, super cheap materials that are worse than the model it replaces, and just a "chintzy" feel. If the Accord carries those downgrades, then they can be in trouble.

Taking an evolution design approach is absolutely the wrong thing to do. Why would people replace their old one with the new when it looks so similar? The specifications for the drive train looks quite old as well. Honda must stop with these have baked efforts.

The issue is not always design. Flashy might get you noticed, but it doesn't always mean it's the best car for you. It really comes down to customers.

When I go to my Honda dealership, I usually see mostly middle age to elderly people. Unless someone has a kid, I'm the youngest one their for service. In just talking to a few of them, they love Honda because it's dependable. They don't want anything flashy. Getting from point A to point B is their main goal. I personally love my Honda, I rarely even have to go to the dealership. My truck might not be all the flashy, but it does what I need it to do.

I have a friend that brought a Hyundai. She likes the way it looks, but the main reason was for the price and warranty.

The previous Camry was great, but the new one is just so overdone.

The Honda is more simple and more elegant.

The Mazda is great to look at, but they really don't have the customer loyalty like Honda does nor the record for being dependable. They have more to prove and they have the need to bring in new customers.

I like the Altima, but they made it look to much like the Maxima and it really didn't work out that well. It comes out over styled.

In the end, it comes down to the customer. At least Honda is giving the option for those who don't need or want all that attention.

Albeit conservative, I still like this new one better than all of the cars it competes against appearance wise. People looking for a good value buy Honda Accords. They are affordable, understated but good looking, have high quality and reliability, offer good gas mileage, excellent safety, great residual value and drive much better than the Camry.

You guys are much younger than the average Accord buyer and are more interested in a cool looking car.

Also, I have to chuckle when I read the Hyundai appearance praises? Way too curvy and disjointed to these eyes. I agree that the Mazda 6 is a nice looking car but not a serious threat in this category for the Accord. I don't like the Altima either. The current Accord is long in the tooth, that's why it's lost some traction in the market place.

This new model will fix that.

Frankly, the Optima trounces all of the other mid-sized sedans (jury is still out on the Mazda 6 till the final production version is released) when it comes to looks.

Not that bad? Oh please... It's Honda we're talking about here, not some Chinese car maker. It's a very pathetic effort from Honda.

This new Accord looks very sad compared to the new Mondeo Fusion and the new Mazda 6. Honda is handing over the gold to the hands of the Koreans.

On the other hand, Honda has a very faithful customer base, therefore Accord owners will continue buying their Accord no matter how dull and uninspired each the new Accord looks.

That actually came out in 2004 in S. Korea, as I had an '07 model for a little while and remember it coming out in the U.S. in 2005. Hyundai must have done a last-minute copy as that Sonata was designed in 2002 and the '03 Accord debuted that very summer, so one can't be really sure.

This car is exactly what that "facelift" in 2010 should've been and not that stupid reflector and upside-down taillight nonsense. It's looks better, but Honda really can't be serious if they think holding onto a 7-year old design with moderate changes will work for 5 more years. Why does it seem like Japanese automakers are now adopting the long-term mild-changes/evolutionary design philosophy that BMW and Mercedes-Benz ran away from in the '90s/early '00s?

From what I've heard, Honda's quality/dependability went down with the last generation of cars. Interior quality, noise absorbing, and frequent issues that previous Honda's didn't have.

I rented a newer Civic (not the new bodystyle, which critics seem to unanimously pan as WORSE in a multitude of ways than the one it replaces) to drive long distance once, and it was a nightmare of noises and harshness. It did have its merits, but comfort, quietness, and smoothness wasn't one of them. In fact, it was one of the worst cars I've rented in those regards.

Hondas have never been comforting or quiet, that's why Toyota has always done better in the family sedan arena. Toyotas are quieter and ride better, Hondas were always sportier driving. Kinda like BMW and Mercedes used to be in their respective roles. Honda is done in my book, would buy an American or even Korean car over a Honda now in the family categories. Acura is a joke also. The Civic must really be a POS now because even Honda-loving Consumer Reports has listed it as a car to AVOID. WOW.

Civics used to be the benchmark in small car design and dynamics. Simple, fun, intelligent even elegant design at times. Thew were always of high, spirited quality. No more I guess.

That is the general impression from days of yore. However, I have driven several Civic from the last 5 - 6 years and they are anything, but "sporty". They all float over the road in turns, have terribly numb steering feel and the roar of road and wind noise is just atrocious.

Even the SI in recent years has been criticized for too much body roll and ploughing into the corners due to understeer.
