Has anyone got one of those software programmes that can roughly calculate HP base on 1/4 mile acceleration times and speeds because I am seriously questioning Audi's output figures for the S8..... 520hp looks to be more like 550-560hp if you ask me.
One of the worse tests from these guys. They dont seem a bit serious and think they are funny? No thanx.
And you will prove your point with a hp to 1.4 mile time function?
Ι don't think that those applications/software have any value as an argument. There's only one way to determine the output of that engine. Bench dynamometer. Not even a thorough thermodynamic analysis can provide accurate results, due to the nature of the thermodynamic cycle of the internal combustion engine. If you have dyno tests of thew new S8, then that's a good argument, in my book.I can prove nothing other than an opinion that it is actually making more than they say.
Theoreticaly, the less power a wheel transmits to the road the better it is, as in the wheel will not spin. So, if the S8 was FWD or RWD instead of AWD, it would start with a massive wheel spin. Then again, an AWD system has more losses over a system that transmits the power to only one axle, due to the less moving parts.Goes like stink apparently, regardless of Audi power claims. Giannis, any comments on the efficacy (advantage) of quattro off the line and the tranny gearing playing a role here as well?
Thanks Giannis. Seems extremely quick for its weight no doubt. Assumed close ratio gearing might be helping but I do not know either.

^The latest autos are surprisingly quick at changing.
Why the Audi S8 dont use S-tronic-transmission? Then its much faster.
Probably because of longevity/reliability, and also because a flagship luxury saloon like the S8 probably demands a smoother gearbox (even if it's only slightly more so) and the 8th gear for long distance cruising.
