A8/S8 [Official] 2013 Audi S8

The 760i does not, in any way, pretend to be sporty like an S8 or M5. A simple Sport+ button being available is a freaking lame excuse. And this is from my own personal experience with a 760i. Even a 7er M sport model has the exact same chassis as a regular 7er.

Why is the Sport+ button a "freaking" lame excuse?

I never mentioned the M5 and I don't think it would be in the sights of a potential S8 purchaser, so I don't know why you're mentioning it in response to me.

I personally think a potential S8 owner would look at an M5 and definitely not a 760i.

So you think a potential S8 owner would look at a smaller car that is in a lower class and size category, yet completely discount the 7 Series which is in the same size category, the same class, and has pretty much identical power to weight ratio?

Riiigggghhhhtttt.

Yes, the B7 is a better fit, but it is still not really a performance version. Alpina does not focus on sportiness but on exclusivity, and sportiness automatically adds to that without being the main aim.

I think Sunny is offering the closest thing in 7 series form to an S8, oh and while we are on this subject who in their right thinks an Alpina isn't the match in terms of sportiness to an S model Audi because I would say its the direct eqivelant.

Audi don't go hell for leather to produce the ultimate sports saloon with their S cars, rather the best balance between luxury and performance which is exactly what Alpina do.

Either way, you're right Betty. a 760i has a Sport+ button and because of that it is competition to the S8. You nailed it, no doubt!

So 760i/B7 is direct S8 rival, but M135i is not direct S3 rival?

ABT updates the Audi S8-based AS8

The pricing for the 2013 S8 was announced by Audi last month and now ABT Sportsline has already developed an upgrade program for the company’s flagship model. In its standard output, the 4.0-liter TFSI engine generates 520 hp (382 kW / 527 PS), but after ABT works its magic this engine can unleash 20% more power, pumping out 620 hp (456 kW / 628 PS). The power unit has a peak torque of 575 lb-ft (780 Nm) compared to the standard 479 lb-ft (650 Nm).
Although it weighs almost two tones, the ABT AS8 is capable of doing the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in approximately 4 seconds, while to get from 37 mph (60 km/h) to 62 mph (100 km/h) it needs 2.8 seconds.
ABT says that in fifth gear the AS8 can reach 74 mph (120 km/h) from 49 mph (80 km/h) in just 3.5 seconds. In a little over 13 seconds it is able to hit 124 mph (200 km/h), on its way to an electronically limited top speed of 180 mph (290 km/h).

Very fast limousine.
Imagine RS6 with such power and torque :D
BTW That mast be realy fast since stock S8 did 4s to 100 kmh in Autobild and Autozeitung tests.

That's some classy tunning by ABT. It looks more tasteful than the Panny Turbo, B7 Alpina and S63 AMG. Sweet rims too.

In addition to changing the appearance of the wheels (not good imo) they no change at all.

I like them and think they give a hint that the car is fast but in a subtle way. Large sedans often sit well on five spoke rims but for sportier versions multi-spoke can be refreshing.

It shows the potential of the engine and the doubts that the RS6 might make no more than the S8's 520hp look highly unlikely. Bring on 580hp thank you very much.

The colour of the ABT is beautiful and the headlights look like jewels(y) I really like the wheels as well, cant see why everyone else dosent:confused:

The sport button is a lame excuse because theres a sport button on a 730d;) The fact of the matter is BMW make no mechanical changes to its suspension/chassis tuning like Audi do to their S models. The 760Li is a rival to the A8 W12 and S600 plain and simple despite their technical similarities between the S8 and it. And it is most possible that an prospective S8 owner would consider an M5. I read in an article lately that to many the 5er is now considered the 7er of Europe, so an S8 owner would just as likely consider an M5, just as he/she would likely consider an E63 and RS6, though I agree it wouldn't be his/hers first thought. As other people have said the more more of a rival would be the B7, and considering Alpinas absolute and unequivocal brilliance at chassis tuning it will prove formidable competition:)

The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
