I can't get excited about a 4.0V8 S8, a 6.0V12 S65 is so much more appealing in this class. Put the 520hp 4.0V8 in an RS4 saloon and I will get excited. So excited that I would order it immediately. Pretty please Audi?

Really? Even if that 4.0 V8 S8 will smoke an M5, RS5, R8 V8, TT-RS..? The engine is to die for!!! The v12 days are over.

Amazing with such subtle styling changes how much better it looks than the normal A8, even the proportions somehow look better.

Mind not even the S65 AMG, with 110 PS more, manages to accelerate as fast: 4,4 sec.

Hahaha, the trio of S cars aren't doing it for you right? I agree the S6 and S7 are boring but this S8 has the beautiful proportions of the outgoing model and will win you over once you see it in black. :)

Hah well what can i say..its no the S part that is the problem..its the cars to start with..boring looking ...this A8 is such a letdown visually that it drains my energy to even cry about it..

The S65 is only RWD and it has the old slow 5 speed gearbox. I think the 0-160km/h time will be a better indication of the advantage of having that extra power.

Who buys an S8 to "smoke" other cars? Big saloons need effortless (large displacement) power, not high revving or high boost turbos, low displacement engines imo.

I agree with you that the S8 engine specs are impressive, I just feel that type of engine would be more exciting in a smaller / lighter vehicle. I suspect that we will see this same engine in the (slightly!) lighter RS6 in an even higher state of tune which bodes well for the RS6. But in an RS4 this engine would be sublime.

I've sat in both an S600,and a W12. The Audi's was nicer, things could change when the new S roles around, but for now the A8 is the leader in class.

Well i don't wanna turn this into interior fight but even the old W221 S AMG has at least an equal interior..u may like the DESIGN of the S8 more but the S's interior is flawless..and lets not talk about the W222 coz that car probably will be in a different league altogether.

Well after 100km/h the S65 will disappear so is other 63 car and M5..that impressive 0-100km/h sprint is just coz of the 4WD.

You're probably right the W222 in all likely hood will be a game changer. The A8 still trumps the current S which looks some what dated in comparison. The A8's tron style lighting alone gives it that look of future feel.

^well that is ur opinion..i just like the design of the A8 interior nothing more..;)

Yeah the Audi's design is stunning, it is for me the best thing going in a large luxury class. The Jaguar is good looking, but nothing I've seen about it says the tech works properly. The S-Class is just classic at this point, I love it. If I liked big 4-doors like these my choice would be very easy, a 2012 bi-turbo S550 loaded or wait for the S8.

The W221 is old now. I´d go for this or wait to the W222.

^Even though the car is about to be replaced but whenever i see a FL S500 AMG rolling..the car is just really gorgeous and fresh like a new model. That is gotta be one of the best FLs ever IMO.

Agree.

You have to be freaking kidding me. It's the quattro system that does wonders from standstill.

I am 100% sure the M5 still reaches 200 km/h way faster than S8. But we'll see who is king soon enough. They will surely be compared to each other.
BTW, the car looks hot in those last shots you posted, honestly.

The maths explains that the M5 will be quicker, more power and torque going through a DCT instead of an auto and only two driven wheels instead of four. Sure the S8 will get the jump from the dig but in no time at all the M5 will come storming pass, though I might take until maybe 90 to do so.

P.S.
The S treatment has done its magic on the A8 like the rest, though it's still the least successful design by Audi in my mind.

The new cars still screams FWD in its proportions. The S treatment has done wonders, but something about it is still off. The rear looks cut off too in some shots. Need to see it in person. The old car was perfection.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
