Official: 2011 Infiniti M

Kinda too roundy, humpy looking but I'll wait until I see it in person.

M

Yea almost like a BIG G37.

I love Infiniti, but for some reason I'm not that excited about the look like I usually am. Either way the previous model was like a rocket when I took it on a test drive. I'm sure this will be just as good, if not better.

Looking good inside and out. M37S with 4WD (and probably 4WS),330hp and 7-speed must be one great car. :t-cheers:

You've seen the computerized pics Infiniti released at the official "virtual" debut of the redesigned 2011 Infiniti M last month at Pebble Beach. But today we spent some time on public roads with an actual rear-drive 2011 Infiniti M56 and an all-wheel-drive 2011 Infiniti M37x.

We can't tell you how these midsize luxury sedans drive or give you detail specs on them today. But browse through the photos and you'll get a feel for how they look on the road and some of the features they have.

For example, the M56, which gets a 5.6-liter V8 making over 400 hp, is available with a sport package, and our particular M56 Sport wore 20-inch wheels and Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires. Navigation system graphics appear to be sharper as well, and the interiors look a little less hard-edge than the current generation.

Although we drove the AWD M37x, there will be certainly be a rear-drive version that slots below that. Look for about 325 hp from its 3.7-liter V6. And expect a 7-speed automatic transmission to be standard on all flavors of the 2011 Infiniti M.

More photos after the jump. Note that the badges are covered on these pre-production cars. The M56 Sport is black with a light interior. The M37x is dark gray with a dark interior.

Whoa I hadn't see those pics. Its a curvy thing inside and out. I want to say its an ugly mess, but I'll wait until I see it.

What I don't get is why they took a truck engine and put it into this car, if this is the same 5.6L V8 from the QX56??? Why not the 5.0L V8 from the FX50?

Nissan Fuga at Tokyo Motor Show

WCF
Nissan has unveiled the redesigned 2010 Fuga (aka Infiniti M) at the Tokyo Motor Show.

The sleek luxury sedan will be powered by two different V6 engines, a 2.5-liter and a 3.7-liter with 328 hp. Eventually, Nissan will launch a Fuga Hybrid with a 3.5-liter V6 and an electric motor. According to Nissan, the hybrid has "a single electric motor/twin clutch arrangement. Innovatively, the first clutch is installed between the naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 and the electric motor. The result of this configuration, where all components act on a single prop shaft to the rear differential, is a consistent driving feel under all conditions with linear performance and the ‘direct responses' that the engineers sought."

Packed with the latest technology, the Fuga boasts Double Piston Shock Absorbers (with variable damping) and an Intelligent Transport System, which alerts the driver about upcoming obstacles via the navigation system. Other goodies include leather upholstery, wood trim, and an odor suppressing climate control system.

Look for the new Fuga to start arriving at Japanese dealerships later this year.

2011 Infiniti M 'Forest Air' Climate System Controls Odor, Humidity

It might seem obvious in hindsight, but the climate control systems in most cars haven't seen many updates since their introduction. Sure, they're more sophisticated, with dual-zone thermostats and automatic operation. But underneath, they're still the same basic systems.

Not so in the 2011 Infiniti M. While it still offers cooling and heating, it adds to the package with air flow, odor and humidity controls.

Filtering cabin air isn't anything new--a lot of standard passenger cars do it. But Infiniti's Forest Air sytstem also includes a built-in "Plasmacluster" electronic air purifier to not just filter odors, but to actively seek them out and destroy them.

Another unique feature of the Forest Air system is the addition of humidity control. Rather than just filling the cabin with warmer or cooler ambient-moisture air, the Forest Air system adjusts humidity to what Infiniti calls optimum levels based on the systems other settings. What exactly constitutes optimum humidity remains to be seen.

Finally, the Forest Air system also takes a new approach to moving air around the cabin. Unlike a conventional system's vents, which just pipe air out at a range of velocities, the Forest Air system attempts to create a "gentle breeze." The goal is to provide air circulation that feels natural, rather than feeling like part of an industrial jerky machine.

A range of sensors and feedback loops make this complex level of climate control possible, and Infiniti seems very proud of the results. We'll have to withhold judgment until we've experienced it for ourselves, behind the wheel of the 2011 Infiniti M--and we'll bring you the latest as soon as we do.

I love the news about advanced climate control. I think this is a much more compelling luxury story than the "nanny systems" that have been very prominent marketing tools as of late.

I think the problem is that luxury carmakers focused so heavily on electronics and telmatics for the past 10 years. Which was awesome when that stuff was novel and could only be had in a car... But now with the iPhone being a swiss-army-computer in your pocket, and Android phones supposedly coming with built-in navigation... All that $3,500 add-on tech isn't very impressive.

What IS nice - is that this could bode well for the future of luxury in the sense that other, more qualitative elements could become the yardstick by which we measure the true worth of a luxury car. Having a hyperadvanced HVAC system is a great start.

December 1st 2009 Global Debut

Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Infiniti today unveiled the all-new 2011 Infiniti M sedan at a media event in Beverly Hills, Calif. Infiniti's halo sedan, which is scheduled to go on sale in late March 2010, will be available in two model designations - the Infiniti M56 with an all-new 420-horsepower 5.6-liter VVEL Direct Injection Gasoline(TM) V8 and the Infiniti M37 with a 330-horsepower 3.7-liter VVEL V6. Both engines are designed to offer more power and increased fuel efficiency versus the previous generation M's V8 and V6 engine offerings. The Infiniti M56 and M37 will be offered in a choice of rear-wheel drive or with Infiniti's Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system.

The 2011 Infiniti M's completely redesigned body offers authentic sports sedan proportions and evocative new styling with a low front end and deeply sculpted fenders. Inside, the new M's interior is pure Infiniti, combining vibrant, Japanese-influenced design, luxury materials and amenities and premium entertainment systems with driver-oriented sports seating and controls.

The new Infiniti M continues its predecessor's tradition of offering an array of advanced technology systems, including Active Noise Control, an innovative Forest Air(TM) climate control system, "Infiniti Drive" selectable drive mode control, Active Trace Control, Eco Pedal and enhanced Infiniti Hard Drive Navigation System. The Infiniti M also introduces the new Blind Spot Intervention(TM) (BSI) System, a world's first system that alerts the driver if another vehicle is detected in the blind spot area and helps return the vehicle back toward the center of the lane of travel away from the other vehicle.

"The 2011 Infiniti M embodies all of our best thinking, design and quality to date," said Ben Poore, vice president, Infiniti Business Unit. "It's a truly inspired design offering invigorating performance, luxurious comfort and the highest levels of craftsmanship and style ever offered in an Infiniti."

Other available 2011 Infiniti M features include a Bose® 2-channel 10-speaker premium audio system or Bose® Studio Surround® sound system with digital 5.1-channel decoding and 16 speakers (including two personal speakers mounted in the shoulders of each front seat), heated steering wheel, climate-controlled front seats, semi-aniline leather and genuine White Ash wood trim that has been enhanced with real silver powder.

Also making its debut today was the revised 2010 Infiniti G37 Sedan, which goes on sale December 17th at Infiniti retailers nationwide. The G Sedan features a new front exterior design, refined interior treatment and enhanced technology, including an advanced Infiniti Hard Drive Navigation System. The Infiniti G37 Coupe and G37 Convertible also receive interior and technology refinements for the 2010 model year. The G Coupe also goes on sale this month, with the G Convertible scheduled for an early February 2010 release.

In pictures it comes off a bit too curvy, I hope it translates better in real life. Compared to the previous generation, the rear lights seem a bit derivative, almost CLS-like. I wish the front bumper was better integrated to the body. Also the M56 ought to have quad exhausts.

Now I got the shortlist of cons, out of the way this looks to be a great car. I love the finish on the wood. It's original, distinctive, and gorgeous. The oxblood leather color has depth. Dynamically, this looks to give the 5er a run for it's money. The fact that a powerplant like the 5.6 liter V8 paired to a 7 speed is more efficient than the old 4.5 liter with a 5 speed is awesome. Lexus ought to take notice to this and the 5er when it redesigns the GS.

Good job, Infiniti.
