CLS [Official] 2010 Mercedes-Benz CLS

The Mercedes-Benz CLS (initially called the CLS-Class) is a series of executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz from December 2003 to August 2023. The original model was a four-door sedan based on the Mercedes E-Class platform, marketed as a four door coupé. An estate (shooting brake) model was later added to the model range with the second generation CLS.
Poor Audi A7. First this new CLS, and soon the BMW 6'er :)

Hmm, not so sure of what you are saying, even being the first one saying the same when I first saw the car. Have you seen the pics of the white A7 S-Line, it´s really really hot, and I´m one of those who has never preferred any Audi over the equivalent BMW or MB.

The A7 has an extremly nice front end, a very very well finished interior and a good looking rear. Even the lines of the profile look sexy. It´s just that stupid fastback rear end that makes the car cheaper looking.

It truly is a stunning piece of design! Like a moving sculpture. It will surely stand out and steal the attention once it rolls out on the streets.

I already know I will like this much more than the first generation CLS which actually left me quite cold. When I saw it IRL for the first time I thought: "Is that it?!". It still fails to provoke any feelings in me...

I guess it´s something about the luxury pack, that makes the 350 CDI have no visible exhausts. But in standard trim, with no extras, the 350 CDI has visible pipes.

Don't take this off topic. It won't end well if you're starting about that in such a thread.

I don't understand why you consider my statement OT klier, I find the new CLS better looking than it's rivals (by far for the record) and I stated as much. I am a BMW fan for goodness sakes. Doesn't mean I think they make the most attractive cars in every segment.

And yet you are "on-topic" when you reference the new 6 series in expressing your views about the new CLS because you added a qualification that you shouldn't have said that in this thread?

That's like telling the jury to disregard an out-of-order statement in a trial. :eusa_doh:

It's love at first sight for me. WOW.

I don't know if I can keep my hands off this car now. It's as good as the S, only sexier and cheaper.

What an incredible car. This is definitely my favorite current MB, even more so than the SLS. The car looks incredible in the videos.

Yeah so far it feels like the best looking car they have made since..i dont know the W220??
I like how they have played with purple and black.. very nice contrasts for the press shots..
Others should take note..they always tend to do great press shots..

PS
Its been a great day, with alot of info and candy. But still the full official release is missing with the onslaught of pictures we are used to from MB..
I think we will have to wait for that until Paris :(
But hey i cant complain, they have been nice with this release..alot of fun:D

I read I while ago that the CLS would preview the new S-Class, in some aspects like the front end. If this CLS looks this good, can´t imagine how good the W222 S-Class is gonna be.

I can't remember the last time a Benz has had this kind of visceral impact... The sort of 'massive superiority via style' swagger. W220 sounds right.

The CLS and A7 make pretty nice style bookends...

The funniest thing is that there's almost nothing to be said for BMW at the moment. The next 3er had better make a real statement.

I agree with Osna and Artist, it's not since the W220 that MB has presented something on this level. If this is the shape of things to come, things are looking promising indeed. :usa7uh:

normally i like mb designs over bmws(9 times out of 10 ), but recently saw a e550 parked next to a new 5 series, and thought the bmer was more elegant and plush. never the less the cls is a very accomplished design.

From January 2011 at European dealers: Sales start for the new CLS

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

Stuttgart, Germany, Sep 16, 2010

- More design: second generation showcases a new design language
- More agility: lightweight construction and new electromechanical Direct-Steer system
- More visibility: LED high-performance headlamps
- More safety: active blind spot assist and active lane keeping assist
- More efficiency: up to 25 percent less fuel consumption
- More customisation: a host of high-quality materials and stylish colours

Breathtaking design, consistent use of lightweight construction, sports-tuned chassis, more powerful and more efficient engines, in conjunction with optimum driving safety: as of now, the second generation of the four-door CLS coupé can be ordered from Mercedes-Benz European sales partners. With its exciting and sensuous design, and refined sportiness, the new CLS has the advantage that Mercedes-Benz, as the inventor of the segment, is a full generation ahead of its competitors. As a trendsetter for design, the new CLS also sets new standards in the interior with a range of customised features. There is a choice between five interior colours, five trim part variants and three types of leather.

At the start of sales, there will be two six-cylinder models available, offering greatly enhanced power and efficiency: the CLS 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY developing 195 kW(265 hp) and the CLS 350 BlueEFFICIENCY developing 225 kW (306 hp) and including the ECO start/stop function as standard. The prices are €63,427 and €64,617, respectively (all prices including VAT). Both models will be shipped to European dealers in January 2011.

Just two months later, the engine range will be expanded with the CLS 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY developing 150 kW (204 hp) from €59,857. At 5.1 litresof diesel per 100 kilometres, the combined fuel consumption is excellent for this performance class and corresponds to CO2 emissions of 134 grams per kilometre.

Sales of the CLS 500 BlueEFFICIENCY with a V8 engine and developing 300 kW (408 hp) start in December 2010, with deliveries commencing in April 2011. Both variants also feature the ECO start/stop function as standard. All four engines are new to the CLS, and will improve fuel consumption by up to 25 percent in com*parison with its predecessors. A further new feature is the advanced automatic transmission, the 7G-TRONIC PLUS, which comes as standard with all CLS models.

The standard electromechanical Direct-Steer system also helps improve the vehicle’s efficiency; it will have its world premiere in the upper class segment in the CLS. This is a radical step in the relationship of driver, vehicle, and road. For the first time, the engineers had the freedom to choose and program the parameters influencing the steering behaviour. They defined a Mercedes-Benz steering feel. Consequently, as well as realising fuel-saving improvements, vehicle handling and agility were significantly enhanced. The electromechanical Direct-Steer system has made a further innovation possible – the Active Parking Assist (€868.70). The CLS can not only detect parking spaces, but can also actually park the vehicle for you.

The CLS is the first car in the world to feature fully dynamical LED high-performance headlamps (€1,773.10) as an option, combining the fascinating colour impression close to natural daylight of LED technology with the performance, functionality and energy efficiency of today’s bi-xenon generation of headlamps. For the first time, the new lighting system offers the proven Intelligent Light System offered in Mercedes models with bi-xenon headlamps in conjunction with LED technology. With a total of 71 LEDs, the headlamps look very striking, accentuating the unmistakable looks of the CLS.

More than a dozen driver assistance systems in the new CLS help prevent traffic accidents and reduce the severity of injuries. New on board are Active Blind Spot Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist. Both are available in the Driving Assistance package Plus in conjunction with DISTRONIC PLUS, BAS PLUS and PRE-SAFE® brakes for €2,677.50. The two new assist systems not only detect unintentional lane changes and vehicles located in the blind spot, but can also correct the direction of travel with gentle application of the brakes if the driver ignores the visual or sensory hazard warnings.

The CLS “Edition 1” is limited to the first year after the market launch. The outstanding features of this special model (option price starting at €6,664) include matt exterior paintwork in manganite grey SHAPE, shimmering metallic leather upholstery designo corteccia pearl, floormats with “Edition 1” lettering, black designo roof liner and aluminium pedals. For the interior trim elements in the “Edition 1”, there is a choice between poplar light-brown satin, ash black high-gloss or, as an optional extra, AMG Carbon (at €10,115).

Here is an overview of the prices:

THE CAR PARKS ITSELF? Lets hope it can unlike the LS that says it can

Holy sh**, it looks outstanding in the moving video's. This car is going to have perhaps the most artistic, and striking presence of any car on the road perhaps. The way M-B is sculpting its cars is just on some futuristic sh**. I was cleaning my W212 today, and just studying the lines, and the complexities of the sheet-metal, there isn't anything like it (for better or worse of course, depending on ones outlook). The precision and sharpness/dynamic-ness is on another level with these designs. The deep and profound shadow-play designed into the designs, is also something I haven't seen before, either.

I read I while ago that the CLS would preview the new S-Class, in some aspects like the front end. If this CLS looks this good, can´t imagine how good the W222 S-Class is gonna be.

.... And I cannot even imagine how the W222 is going to look, I have a feeling M-B are going to throw up something crazy, I'm one part worried, and one part intrigued/excited.

No i thought about that one to.. its superb, especially now after the FL..
But if you look at it buck naked without any package when it debuted..
Then this CLS is better looking ..the best since W220..imo

Interesting. I get what you mean. The W220 was the first M-B design that carried the new design "character" that continues to this day, even to the W212, etc. All modern M-B Sedans are like an evolution of the W220.

Interestingly, I've been finding the W220 to look really good lately, I always loved it (one of my favorite Sedans ever), but lately, it's like the design is hitting that "modern/classic/timeless" stride right before our eyes.
