CLS [Official] 2010 Mercedes-Benz CLS

The Mercedes-Benz CLS (initially called the CLS-Class) is a series of executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz from December 2003 to August 2023. The original model was a four-door sedan based on the Mercedes E-Class platform, marketed as a four door coupé. An estate (shooting brake) model was later added to the model range with the second generation CLS.
^haha leave it man..its old now;)

Small pic that shows more of the front than the old similar pic:)

When a new model is launched, the path followed by the Daimler AG Media Services is the next one:

- first of all, they issue a preliminary press release, like it was the case now, even though they were much more thoroughly made, more details and photos-packed in the case of other models (R-Class FL, E-Class range, S-Class FL, CL-Class FL etc.)

- secondly, if that new model is to be premiered at an upcoming motor show, in the eve of it (meaning on the first of the press days), they will most certainly issue another press release, clearly one containing far more information than the previous

- last, but not least, when the first deliveries date for a certain model approaches, Daimler AG Media Services will release a complete press kit, with all the (specific) details and photos needed in such cases

So, my guess is we won't see anything around the 15th September (probably, on that day, the section dedicated to the new CLS on www.mercedes-benz.de will be up and going). A far more possible date is the 30th September or the 1st October.

I rarely read Official Press jargon, but I noticed it said "402 HP TT V8". So is that the HP number for the upcoming 8? For some reason, I thought it was like 440 HP or something. I'm happy with it, 400 HP is more than enough for some of these tards on the road to have at their disposal.

That's obviously a typo. The actual output of the biturbo V8 engine is 435 HP under the DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung) standard used in Europe. In the US, they use the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) model as reference, so in this case, the same engine produces 429 BHP.

Moreover, we can't suspect the 402 HP value could belong to a possible CLS 450 version.

Unless they've detuned (via a software change) for the CLS, but yeah I'd say 400 hp is a typo too.

I read the '402' as well and thought that they have detuned this engine to fit the hierarchy of the model it is in. I am sure torque will remain unchanged, though it will not make the same 429 horses it makes in, say, the S and CL. It makes sense, in a wierd way. Following this, AMGs should follow suit, with the 5.5l making anywhere from 450 to 570 horses (700hp mental tune left for the later Black Series).

Have they detuned the outgoing V8 unit for the old CLS 500, to deliver less than 388 hp? No. Will they detune the new V8? No. Can anyone still in doubt understand 402 is a typo? I am sure they can.

The new CLS AMG will produce 544 hp (571 hp if Performance Pack is chosen), so there's an over-100 hp gap between it and the CLS 500, so there's enough room for both versions.

Closed subject.

Time will prove one of us right, but I think MB have enough double-checkers around so as not to mess up a fairly important spec on their press release. De-tuning of the same engine is by no means new in the Mercedes lineup. While it may not have been the case previously for their regular V8s, the AMG V8s (C vs E/S/CL/SL) and the regular V6s have certainly had this happen across lines. Keep this in mind, the S-class is considerably heavier than the CLS, thus needs an extra 25 or so hp just to stay in the league, in the comfort of the drive of the CLS. After all, once it reaches 400 horses, there are perception issues as well. 400 may be just right, whereas 430 may be a tad much for what is essentially a mid-shelf MB.

Yeah, to most, the 400HP Club is the 400HP Club.

I also find it off that Mercedes would mess up such an important detail, and come up with a number as specific as "402".

Also, remember, N/A engines are much harder to "detune", software changes don't do all that much, and to separate the outputs of those motors from each other, would cost a lot more than keeping them all identical.

With boosted motors, especially TT, you can play around with tuning, boost, and HP numbers all you want, very easily, and cheaply.
