Right everyone, I refer you to the forum rules page here:
Rules & Guidelines
Please pay particular attention to point #22.
We are not here to unravel the petty bickering between members. Where do you honestly expect us to draw the line? I've not seen such a bunch of over-sensitive Primadonnas in my life.
We are not here to corroborate or dispel members' claims of what they did, do or will own. The community at large will decide whether or not they believe such claims based on the credibility and conduct of members on this forum. So, if some question the validity of a poster's claims: so be it. This is not within our control. If you're taken to task and provide "evidence" then still it's up to the individuals within this community to decide for
themselves what they want and don't want to believe. We cannot police this. The internet affords an enormous opportunity - with huge leeway in scope - to falsify, mislead and for the assumption of imaginary personas. We cannot be held responsible for:
- people claiming to be someone / having something
- other people questioning the real-life validity of such claims
This is beyond our control and when members' credibility is lacking in the eyes of some then it's inevitable that they will be taken to task as some point randomly within an equally random discussion.
On the topic of ad hominem attacks: how deep into the psyche of human emotional sensitivity do you want us to delve into in order to determine what level of comment precisely constitutes a personal attack?
Here's an easy one:
"F#$k you, you ignorant cretin. My dog defecating on a keyboard can do a better job of posting something meaningful on this forum."
.
.
All the way down to this (not so easy one):
"I disagree with your opinion, from what you've said I question your age, level of education and authority on this matter."
Oh yes, some here will launch into a vociferous tirade and claim "ad-hominem" on the latter. Unfortunately everything needs to be assessed within numerous contexts - if we simply start deleting ALL differences of opinion what would happen to the discussion and debate on this forum?
We are not condoning that klier derailed the thread. We are similarly not condoning the equally derailing actions of certain members who have their own agendas on this forum.
Had klier said "Based on what I've seen from you of late, I feel that you're only here to complain about BMW..." What then? Ad hominem?
Guess what. It's all that he said - just put a damn IMO on the end and move on.
The problem is this: several members have an issue with klier's posting style and yet the same members don't put him on ignore? Hmph, seems that they too derive some form of strange pleasure in their interaction with him. If they didn't, they'd put him on ignore. It's all part of the game isn't it you guys?
It's about certain members on this forum being unreasonable and having unrealistic expectations as to how far we're expected to manage human personality. Unreasonable and Unrealistic.
What ever happened to manning up on this forum? To recognise that you have a bitter rivalry with someone but still act with robust dignity and a healthy spirit? This community is well over 10 years old we've seen all manner of spats and animosity amongst some of our most active posters that would make the paint peel off the walls. klier is one of those founding members, as is chonkoa. What the hell happened here that we can't take a negative comment and move on? Interestingly, not only is klier a founding member but he is also paying member too. I'll leave that fact with you - make of it what you will, people. More interestingly still, klier has never been banned from this community such is his remarkable ability to conduct himself within the rules of this forum whilst still giving us mods serious headaches. That can't be said of his two most vociferous detractors...
I feel that there are a few members here far more intent on sabotaging the efforts of this site in order to achieve their own painfully self-centred objectives than to truly contribute and add value to the discussion.
That's my comment on this matter. Don't reply, if you take particular offense I suggest you report the post or, even contact the admin privately, to voice your aggrievement - the power to do so is yours. Should you be successful in your cause then I will gladly step down from my role on this forum.
But enough is enough already.
