[Not So] Random Thoughts...

Non-UK people think England/Britain/Great Britain/UK is the crucible of democracy and freedom, freedom of speech.

Nothing further from the truth. Americans especially seem to think UK is Hollywood and Robin Hood in medieval times. Americans adore the whole Magna Carta, Habeas Corpus, kings and queens, mother of parliament stuff.

UK is the most surveilled, least law as law, lawful country in the world. 'Law' in UK is 100% politics - who has the biggest bank balance, the roundest vowels, and ultimately, the biggest stick - 'Don't you know who I f#cking am, pleb' - the infamous address of the Tory MP to a woodentop in Downing St.

Try that as an actual pleb, with a 2022 UK robocop - taser, pepper spray, possible firearm, cudgel stick - telescopic baton - etc, etc, with his/her mates arriving mob-handed to protect the poor, little police person, if the nasty pleb, "citizen", looks so much as sideways at them.

Dixon of Dock Green existed. Plod knew their place - one rung off the bottom of society. They were almost all thick as pig manure, but strong in arm - min. 5'10" - but cruucially, they knew they were just low-rank muscle, with very little power. If you wanted to go above the lowly rank of sergeant, you had to join the funny handshake club - freemasons. Chief constables looked down on the rank and file as dirt.

Ordinary plod, back then, pre-1980, knew they were just uniformed thugs, scum, but also were often quite decent, as they understood their role, place in the order of things - free accommodation, the police houses, no need to buy work clothes, pay in line with semi-skilled workers, retire after 30 years, on a pension that should keep you in ale and fish and chips, and buy you a plot in the church yard.

Our friend Thatcher, paramilitarised the Police. She turned them into arrogant thugs, to literally beat the lower orders. Orgreave, 1984 - how ironic - was the end of the organised working class, and effectively any resistance to the rapacious scum that always ruled/owned England UK, and their henchmen became, openly, the now very well paid thugs in black, basically military garments, Plod of today.

The British people let this happen , cheered it all on - 'F Scargill, F the miners', F the unions'.

F'ing stupid muppets never thought if they'll do this to skilled, decent working people - miner, printers, etc - they'll have no bother cracking skulls with almost any of us.

Too late, the genie went out of the bottle 40 years ago. Young, under 30 yrs old, Plod now think they're untouchable, above, beyond the joke 'law'. They are the law, for the average schmuck pleb.

PS to show you just what a world-class joke UK plod are, the until last week head of UK plod, Dick of the Yard, the lesbian Cressida, was the one who gave the order to assassinate, murder, the Brazilian guy on the Tube in 2006, Operation Kratos - or Cretin, for this evil, butch bitch.

Instead of being summarily dismissed, and immediately arrested for homicide, for the killing of Jean Charles de Menezes, she was promoted and promoted, to rub people's noses in it - 'WE ARE ABOVE THE LAW - WE ARE THE LAW - WE CAN KILL You, ANYONE, AND GET AWAY WITH IT. GET MEDIALS, PROMOTIONS. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?'.

Again, I'm not saying you're wrong, but the equivalency doesn't hold up. Agreed standards that are upheld by the likes of the BBFC are simply not applied individual speech in a public place. I'm actually not even sure of the extent of their powers in what they do do, since a lot of the wording is targeted at commercial distributors of media - but not most social media (nor websites that aren't primarily porn). Censorship bodies have the power to bring a prosecution against people that contravene the laws they're responsible for - that doesn't cover individual speech in public. Media censorship and freedom of speech are two different things.

I'd counter it's not the F-word alone here that got her arrested. In itself it's not an offence to say f#ck in public, it's the context that decides what offence has occurred. At this point if comes down the police officers discretion. It's fairly clear that the use of the word f#ck was enough of an excuse on this occasion, but I think it would be naive to think it was the sole reason... this person did not say f#ck...

The short version is that passing laws to allow the removal of peoples freedom for criticising the institutions that pass laws is dangerous. I'm not liberal enough to think the right to protest should be universally upheld no matter the cause or outcome - gluing yourself to a train to get the government to insulate peoples lofts is mental, flying drones through/around some of the worlds busiest airports is flat out dangerous - protesting the affliction of an unelected head-of-state who effectively gets to decide what your liberties and rights are, should be upheld. It's part of the circular erosion of our rights.
That's where you're wrong. Saying f*ck in public is an offence, it's just not one that's usually prosecuted unless a police officer is nearby and they've already warned you once and basically don't like you. Basically it's there because police don't like being told to go f*ck themselves in the ass with no comeback.

If that's exactly what happened then he was wrongfully arrested. Reading the babble in the section referenced, I believe this is the relevant part.

Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022, section 79

Subsection 1

Does what the guy did constitute a breach? Arguably no because he only said one thing once according to the article. If he had been there constantly shouting and disturbing the ceremony then it would be different, unless the protest was pre-organised. Basically the police messed up, which is no surprise for the London met and probably one of the very least of their wrong doings over the past year.

Well we don't seem to fair too badly.

And that's why millions want to turn out to say goodbye to the little lady, because she had character, was strong, got better and better with age, like all good things, compared to the 74 year old child, who kicks off if a footman doesn't put the toothpaste on his brush. No wonder she wouldn't abdicate, and Philip couldn't stand his son.

UK, its last hope, died with that woman. Now we'll see the reality of this wretched realm in all its horror.

Anne was the leader - god plays tricks. She was her father, mark two. He played around, but at the end, adored his little miss prim and proper, the Queen, just as Anne adored her mother.

Charles is like his maternal grandfather, George VI, and/or maternal great uncle, Edward VIII, the first being a basketcase, nervous wreck, and the second being unable, unwilling to shoulder responsibility, stand up and be a man, hiding behind his Mrs Simpson 'lover' - his surrogate mother/nanny/wet nurse, just like Charles, with Camilla ,the surrogate mother, nanny,. governess, wet nurse.

The Queen is dead, and so is the Queen's English:

'Symbolic moment as sun shined down on Queen's coffin captured in beautiful snap'

- Jesus wept. To pass a grade C O-level in a foreign language back in pre-~1985, you had to know irregular verbs, and their past tense. Now, with the 'most educated generation(s) ever', these multiple degree rocket scientists can't even do mother tongue basic irregular verbs.

And that's why so many, especially the over 50s, and those still with two of their own brain cells, are openly weeping, not just for the person, but what also has died, and the floodgates open to Nu Britain, just like Bliar's Nu Labour 25 years ago, which also marked the end of merit, excellence, the best or nothing, to coin a phrase - prizes for all(retards, lazy scum, putative violent criminals) -'students'.

It's everyone for themselves now. The more you know, the more you strive for excellence, the more you'll be hated, sought out for the first to be literally chopped down to size, because if just one person stands up and says, 'No, that's not right', everyone else looks an idiot, a cheat, a scumbag.

Think it won't happen - a French Revolution Terror episode - get the aristos, - or even Pol Pot's genocide of those wearing glasses - the 'intellectuals'? You don't know history. What was the Katyn massacre about, where the Bolsheviks murdered tens of thousands of Poland's elite - courageous, bright, high motors kills etc, than that.

This may blow your mind, but writers for celebrity gossip sites aren't generally, and don't seem to claim to be 'multiple degree rocket scientists' - in this case it is someone with an MA in Cultural and Creative Industries. Also, it's unlikely 'multiple degree rocket scientists' would claim to have a particularly masterful grasp of the English language anyway - it's simply not their bag - this is part of the reason why scientific journals sill have editors, despite the intellect behind the people conducting the studies.

For what it's worth, it does seem to read badly, but it would appear to be technically correct.

"Symbolic moment as sun shined down on Queen's coffin captured in beautiful snap"
"Symbolic moment as sun shone down captured in beautiful snap"

One relates to an object, the other doesn't...

With that piece of information, which I admittedly had to google, your post becomes even funnier.

I did skim read the wiki article about the Katyn massacre, didn't see anything about a celebrity gossip writer potentially misusing a verb being the cause of it though.

'shined', shone.

That OK thing is actually worse than I stated. You're wrong. These journos are nearly all, now, in 2022 meritocratic UK, public school - private schools. They DO know basic grammar - why else pay £30-40k/yr to board at these places?

The journo, and sub-editor, and probably editor, are playing down to their readership - state school airheads.

They DELIBERATELY put 'shined', as they know most/all state school people under 45 years old are functional illiterates. They know that if they put 'shone', at least half of them would be baffled - not know what it meant, was it a typo, some weird word that meant nothing to them.

If you notice, in the body of the piece, they put 'shone'.

They're taking the piss, and knowing who reads this rubbish - OK magazine.

Still pathetic though that so many will lament the Queen's passing, while having such a limited vocabulary, due mainly to the deliberate state dumbing down of the last 40 years particularly, both spoken and written, that they can't express themselves, how they feel about this woman's passing, who of course had a governess, was fluent in French, and a very good mimic, who enjoyed language games particularly, playing with the language, dexterous use of it, enjoying it, its richness, which she did more and more as she got older, and more confident.

You probably won't like this, but she got her quite wicked teasing and use of language from her mother, not her tongue-tied, stammering father. The old Queen, the Queen mother, recounted to a friend, which then the story got out, that she was kept waiting for her 'refreshment' - she was basically a gin alcoholic - by her staff, in her Scottish castle, and called out:

'while you two old queens are rowing down there, there's an old queen up here who is dying of thirst'

- she was a character, the Queen mother - which her daughter grew into. The Queen mother loved the Irish - Cheltenham, St Pat's Day, the Gold cup. Why wouldn't she - they both loved horses, drink, and the craic.

They're taking the piss, and knowing who reads this rubbish - OK magazine.

Well, you clearly read it.

'shined', shone.

The discussion about Shined as a transitive verb has been done to death on the internet, I would suggest you read about it yourself, but I know you're somewhat fact-averse.

I'd actually take issue with the subject of the article more, more than the grammar anyway. It's an empty premise, described badly. The sun was shining directly at the lens, not the hearse, hence the lens flare. The story is a big fat nothing burger.

Still pathetic though that so many will lament the Queen's passing, while having such a limited vocablah, blah, blah...

You said something I agree with! (Bolded)... the rest of it? Hereditary monarchs have no place in modern democratic society.

Eco-WaterMelons have invaded VW’s Autostadt in Wolfsburg (is that still a thing?) and glued themselves to the floor of the Porsche Pavillion and facilitated a hunger strike. Staff turned down the heating and turned off the lights and left them with no potties or buckets to urinate or defecate in.

Elon is not playing along. Especially with this dangerous adversary.

Yeah, made the news over here. I don't follow Brazilian politics, Bolsonaro seemed like a bit of a dick but beyond that I don't know much about him. Leaves me wondering why people on the right, further right, or far right have such a problem with accepting defeat.

It's looking like our incumbent right wing government will lose the next election to a more left leaning party... I wonder if a bunch of Tories will set about Westminster if that happens.

Bit of a dick is an understatement. Bolsonaro is a coward and a traitor. He betrayed his voters and paved the way for the return of Lula, who is an alcoholic playboy with dictatorial aspirations. Then when he lost the election to Lula, he fled to Orlando with his tail between his legs. I hope he gets deported and arrested once he lands over here. And don't think for one moment that Lula is any better, because the man is a menace to our democracy.

I'm assuming Brazil is another sad case of a two party system where you end up voting for the less shitty solution?
