GT-R Nissan GT-R (Official pics & info)

The Nissan GT-R (Gran Turismo–Racing; model code: R35) is a series of cars built by Nissan from 2007 to 2025. It has a 2+2 seating layout and is considered both a sports car and a grand tourer. The engine is front-mid mounted and drives all four wheels. It succeeds the Nissan Skyline GT-R, a high-performance variant of the Nissan Skyline. The car is built on the PM platform, derived from the FM platform used in the Skyline and Nissan Z models. Production is conducted in a shared production line at Nissan's Tochigi plant in Japan.
Here is a link for all the folks who keep doubting this car's N-ring laptime.

Lap Analysis

Check it...:D

I don't doubt the lap time. I doubt how stock the car was. Especially since one of the videos of the car at the ring shows flames from the exhaust - which means it probably didn't have cats.

You didn't think that Nissan was simply going to settle for selling the GT-R, did you? And did you think Nissan would forget about the folks who can't afford the affordable-for-its-performance GT-R? Oh no. Just like the other marques that the GT-R swims with, you can now kit yourself out in gear that will probably let everyone know that you don't actually own the car.

Like the car -- and recent gift trends -- it's all about leather and carbon fiber. However, unlike the car, these items don't appear to have bang-for-buck as core values. With a T-shirt costing $AUD120 ($US105 at today's exchange rate), you will have to earn your way into this apparel.

I'm not sure, but I've seen/known about a few cars with cats in exhaust still bust out flames because of the pressure/boost in the engine. For example, the Mine's GT-R has cats in the Exhaust yet still has flames, I put up a video of it. Also, I've personally seen a buddy (not anymore, he moved) of mine's modified RX-7 pushing 3??hp to the wheels bust fire through the back, not all the time but seen it a few times when he raced other cars, usually when he downshifted. Both (mine's and RX7) are turbo, may be that has something to do with it?

quote of Mr. Mizuno regards laptimes:
Earlier, Mizuno-san had offered some lap times from the Nordschliefe for various cars driven by the German magazine SportAuto. Those times are driver-dependent, track-knowledge-dependent, weather-, traffic- and bunny-crossing-the-track dependent. But Mizuno suggested the GT-R could get anywhere from 7:44 on up, with most laps coming in between 7:55 and 7:58. So he suggested the GT-R’s strong suit was that it offered “the best cost per lap time.” For whatever that’s worth.

from 2009 Nissan GT-R - AutoWeek Magazine

another quote of Mr. Mizuno:
GTR chief engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno told PistonHeads that his baby had covered over 3000 miles at the Nordschleife and avoided other circuits as they were deemed 'too easy'.

Nissan's original target was to beat the 911 Turbo at the 'ring but they ended up worrying the Porsche Carrera GT.

They didn't beat the GT's 7min 32sec lap time, but got a 7.38 in semi-wet conditions.

'We used cut slick tyres' said Mizuno.

'I was not interested in full slick times as this bears no resemblance to a road tyre. 1.2G of force was being pulled in wet and over 2 in dry'.

from PistonHeads Headlines

so the car wasn't street legal, and a standard car would lap the ring in 7:55, that's more believable and is in accordance with sportauto's laptime.
But, there is the possibility that pistonheads, autoweek and sportauto are all talking some bogus about GT-R while nissan has made the fastest production car EVER with an extra 600-700 lbs, 100+ less HP than its nearest competitor and a runflat tire! if that's the case, i reckon all car makers should stop making performance car and bow at everything nissan.

Nissan GT-R recognizes tracks via GPS, removes speed limiter

We know that the Nissan GT-R's ECU wizardry is impressive, but this little tidbit left us in awe. According to our friends over at the GTChannel, the GT-R's integrated computer limits the vehicle's speed in Japan to 111 mph (180 km/h), but once the GPS system detects that you've arrived at a domestic circuit, it removes the top speed limiter for all-out track assaults.

In the U.S., they've bumped up the electronically-limited top speed to 156 mph (250 km/h), but there's no integration with the GPS here in the States, meaning that anyone that wants to go faster on track has to have the ECU modifed. Nissan has made several overtures that the GT-R's ECU will be a tough nut to crack, but we're sure that enterprising tuners both here and abroad will be able to coax a few extra ponies out of the twin-turbo'd 3.8-liter mill and remove any electronic nannies that go with it.

First Crashed Nissan GT-R

The folks over at the North American GT-R Owners Club forum managed to get their hands on some shots of what is believed to be the first smashed Nissan GT-R (lucky for us they did it in public). Since it's a 480 hp supercar, we're going to assume that this didn't happen at a speed lower than 20 mph and thus the front of the car held up pretty well, all things considered.

Very much expected. It's a racer admired by young guys, some of them over confident off course. Don't look awfully bad though.

At least the guy who crashed it will be yelling "FIRST!!!" LOL :D At least we know tha the safety system in this car works.

Dealer markups to push GT-R pricing as high as $129,000

Although the Nissan GT-R will sticker for about $69,000 when it goes on sale in the U.S. later this year, prospective buyers will be hard pressed to find any Nissan dealers to offer the supercar at that price. The combination of the GT-R's limited availability and Nissan's lack of dealer pricing control could see some of the turbocharged coupes going for as high as $129,000 — nearly double the car's MSRP.

Exhaustnote.com called on 15 Nissan dealers through the United States and found that the GT-R will command at least $20,000 over its window sticker. Several dealers even said they were going to handle GT-R sales like an auction, pitting prospective buyers against one another.

One dealership in Carson, California said they would markup the GT-R by about $50,000 — joking the markup would be about the same as a new Nissan 350Z and Sentra.

The highest markup found was $60,000, bringing the GT-R's out-the-door price to a staggering $129,000.

The huge markups are due to extremely limited availability of Nissan's latest supercar — only 1,500 GT-Rs will be available in the U.S. this year. Most dealerships will only get 2 or 3 cars, but most have waiting lists at least 40 people deep.

While Nissan has counseled its dealers on markups — one of the GT-R's greatest assets was supposed to be amazing performance at a value price — the Japanese automaker has no control over how much dealers will actually charge.

^^That's crazy mark-up. But what can you do, people are greedy and every one of these cars will sell because there are more than enough people out there who are willing to pay a premium to own this first.

Nissan GT-R Performance Kits from Japan's Top Tuners

With every can fan on the planet still awestruck by Nissan’s new GT-R supercar, news that top Japanese tuning firms are already offering upgrades may be enough to send them over the edge. Here are the highlights of the upcoming raft of aftermarket bolt-ons for Nissan’s new supercar:

Mines have developed adjustable coilover suspension, a 400mm brake kit, high-flow catalysers and a more freer-flowing titanium exhaust system. This has already seen a 20bhp hike in dyno tests and the firm is busying itself working on the ECU to allow the car to run higher boost levels.

Sunline Racing have also been hard at work, replacing the standard wheels with staggered 19in and 20in Volk Racing items and working on their own adjustable coilover suspension kits.

Amuse showed their larger carbon fibre rear wing, carbon front bumper lip and titanium cat-back exhaust system at the recent Tokyo Autosalon.

JUN are developing stronger engine internals and larger turbos to be released later in the year, while legendary Skyline tuners Top Secret already have a full carbon fibre aero kit in the pipeline.

People with more money than brains. All you have to do is wait 6-8 months. Just order one at sticker and wait. No way in hell I'd pay double the price on any car just to have it now. Same people (suckers) did this for the Acura NSX, Corvette ZR-1 back in the 90's both cars couldn't be given away a few years later. Pure idiotic nonsense. The only way I'd do this is to flip the car for even more to an even bigger sucker. If I pay 120 and he'll buy it from me for 130 then why not? Only way to go. If you're going to pay this much over (or anything over sticker) and actually drive the car you're nuts.

Nissan GT-R now available for pre-order in the U.S.

If you’re one of the several thousand people anxiously waiting to pay nearly double retail for the privilege of owning a Nissan GT-R, you probably already know this. If you’re one of those people and you don’t know this, you’re probably at the back of the line. Nissan’s 691 officially certified dealerships have begun taking pre-orders, with customer delivery expected to start in June 2008.

Not every Nissan dealership will be selling the GT-R. To be officially certified as a GT-R seller and servicer, the dealership has to meet a strict set of requirements, including number of sales, service and facilities commitments, having a dedicated master technician on staff just to handle GT-R service, special management and technician training. The only people allowed to sell the GT-R are dealer principals, executive managers and general managers. No sweaty 22-year-olds will be trying to hard-sell you into a GT-R.
The GT-R features a 480hp, twin-turbo 3.8L V6 matched with a six-speed dual clutch gearbox. Not bad equipment for the MSRP of $69,850 (base) or $71,900 (premium) - although you’re not likely to get one off the lot for that price. If you want one - or even think you might - get down to your local certified dealer today and put your money on the table. With only 1,500 coming to the U.S. and nearly 700 dealers, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out they’ll be going quick.
