The BMW X3 is an SUV manufactured by BMW since 2003, based on the BMW 3 Series platform. The BMW X4 is a compact luxury crossover SUV manufactured by BMW since 2014. The X4 is widely considered as a "coupé" version of the X3.
Second phase X3 prototype . Using new X3 front end for cooling tests and development chassis work with updated Xdrive architecture dynamics. Remember BMW will add Dynamic Performance Control to the next X3 for more precise handling.
Of course BMW are on the second generation X3 now and although the Mercedes and Audi Interpretation of the BMW X3 : The GLK and Q5 are now moving into the X3 segment , BMW know they can now stretch the limits to what is possible with the new X3 in terms of style of practicality which means no seven seater as this will remain the 3er of the X series which means sharing the same image and abilities as the rest of the family.
Having seen the full scale clay model of the next X3 it is very much a transformation from the current X3. The Roofline slopes more at the rear offering a shallow glasshouse , the kicked up rear hoffmeister kink remains as a characteristic to the X3 but with the glasshouse being shorter is better implicated. Look back at the original X6 idea for a good way of the design dept. thinking .
Although the X3 will follow a similar pattern with the current car and not be styled as a compact version of the X5.
Sorry, dear Scott, but that's definitely NOT F25 X3 mule.
As can be clearly seen this mule is wearing X1 front ... check the X1 spy pics, an you'll see the front is IDENTICAL.
This is mule is performing some extra engine cooling testing for the X1 ... since X1 is based on E91 platform.
Check the previous spy pics - the silver E91 mule with MUCH wider track, and also riding higher & the wheelbase is a bit longer. Now that's F25 X3 mule.
This black one just isn't. Since it's X1 mule based on E91 - testing the engine cooling.
I realise that now . Actually as we speak their is 3 prototypes using E91 : There is as I said the first X3 models , The X1 and the M3 Touring . As I seen the X3 model first @ the FIZ I presumed this was it.
^^ Yes, he has definetely seen it before he drew that. But still, even though you can see he was right about the basic design, his whole creation looks weird.
This is also the case with the photoshops of the F01.
"For the first time ever, spies caught the next-generation X3! The current X3 will have to soldier on for a few more years until the arrival of an all-new model slatted for the 2011 model year. Nonetheless, these are the very first spy-shots of Munich’s (and Spartanburg’s!) compact SUV photographed earlier today.
The new X3’s dimensions will hardly change compared with the current one, and its styling will be shaped to reflect elements from the CS Concept. The basic shape will remain much the same, however the new model is expected to feature a more prominent grille plus new wraparound headlights.
Designers will also focus on improving the quality of the interior, as the new X3 will be facing stiff competition from the recently unveiled new Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLK.
Production of the X3 will be moved to BMW’s Spartanburg plant, where it will be built alongside the new X6 and X5.
Expect to see the twin-turbo 3.0-liter from the 335i make its way into the X3 range, as well as the powerful but frugal new 204-hp 2.0-liter turbodiesel. A new hybrid model is also tipped to be on the table."
