X3/X4 Next X3: Spyshots & CGIs

The BMW X3 is an SUV manufactured by BMW since 2003, based on the BMW 3 Series platform. The BMW X4 is a compact luxury crossover SUV manufactured by BMW since 2014. The X4 is widely considered as a "coupé" version of the X3.
Looks like a PAS and SAC cross-over. I guess the X5 will remain as the only proper SUV in the line up.

Well, it could be F3.

I mean, wasn't the next gen X3 supposed to move to the South Carolina Spartanburg plant? And if that's the case, wouldn't we see first testing of the next X3 somewhere in the U.S rather than the streets of Munich?

My first thoughts about this car was 'wagon-ish' too. Doesn't look bad though, the grille will be huge :D

Chaps, that's unmistakably NOT the next X3 (way to short, way to low roof ... but it's definitely an "X" - check the ground clearance).

May I present you the ... X1

:t-cheers:

X1?? I had pictured the X1 to be much smaller, like a Toyota RAV 4 or something.

It probably looks smaller with all the fake panels gone. The 1-series range is expanding quickly. What's missing now is perhaps a sedan version, like a Jetta.

This, and also: due the different proportions - the car is approx as long as RAV4 but much lower - it appears longer & wider than it actually is.

Perhaps in the future generations of 1er. If there will be demand. Kind a 2dr sedan (=1er coupe) already exists. ;)

My apologies if this has already been posted, but I know the pics are about the same as the ones Merc1 found--

Winding Road Archive 2009 BMW X3 Prototype Caught in Munich

This BMW test mule may be heavily camouflaged, but there is no denying the 2009 X3 will be styled with some cues from the 2009 BMW X6. The X3 won’t have as much interior room compromised for the exterior design, but the shape will be sleeker than the current X3.

The X3 will be based on the 3-series platform, but it will be stretched and widened to help differentiate it from the 3-series wagon. There aren’t many other details on the X3 right now, but we presume the engine will still be a 3.0-liter inline-six.
What do you think about the direction of the 2009 BMW X3? Let us know in comments.
From Glenn Paulina:
The first prototype for BMW’s all-new X3 has broken cover, and we have snagged our first full set of photos on the streets of Munich. Despite the camouflage, the sleekness of the revamped X3’s new shape is unmistakable. There appears to be some of the X6’s smooth greenhouse flow from the A- to C-pillars, but without the sacrifice to rear headroom and cargo space. From this first look, it seems that a little more “sportwagen” has crept into the new X3’s design brief.
The new X3 is reportedly based on the 3-series platform, but it has been stretched and widened to add some additional functionality to the shape.

Again: that's not X3 but X1.

KGP sold spy pics to the magazines under wrong title.

As we know spy photographers are good for taking spy pics, not for discussing about new models - since they have no clue! Think of Lehmann & his BS (incl. renderings). :eusa_doh:

True, thank u for that bit of info! Ok, back to my heartache of waiting on any news of the X6...

This is the real F25 X3 ... currently as E91 mule ...

Note how much wider the track is ...
Current X3 track is just about 1" (2.5cm) wider than one of E91 3er Touring. While E83 X3 is 23cm (9") higher than E91.
It looks like F25 will be about the same length yet lower & wider than E83.

So ... this is F25 X3, while the other prototype in the post #36 is E84 X1.

:t-cheers:

If there is really going to be a X1, and possibly a X4, I am beginning to worry. With too many 4x4s there might be a screw up somewhere, and the prestige that comes with the X5 right now might be ruined or tainted with the overcrowding of SUVs in the BMW lineup--

That 3-Series-X3 testmule looks really akward. I was thinking this would make a great little 3-Series "Allroad". You know, sort off like the Audi A6 Allroad Quattro.

Wont they just be testing the suspension and other stuff on the 3-series shell so they don't give away the car:confused:?

What BMW test mule is this??

What are we looking at here? Front looks massive and very aggresive. New X3?

Re: What BMW test mule is this??

Yeh thats what the post at E90 forum said, but seriously look at the size of this machine. Looks bigger then the front of the X5. I guess there is a lot of camo ontop of the front. I think the big and wide kidneys will suit the SAV class vehicles.
