1 Series Next Generation 1-Series Thread (Spy pics, Info & Impressions)

The BMW 1 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since 2004. Positioned as the entry-level model in BMW range of products, the first generation was produced in hatchback, coupé and convertible body styles.
Autobild talking about R4 Turbo engines for the next 3er. I assume same engines are coming for the new 1er.

x18i
R4, turbo, 1,6 liters, 150 hp

x20i
R4, turbo, 2,0 liters, 180 hp

x25i
R4, turbo, 2,0 liters, 210 hp

x28i
R4, turbo, 2,0 liters, 245 hp

Hmmm, if I can´t afford the 128i I wouldn´t mind owning the 125i, or even the 120i. All of the them will have more than the needed power to move the car .

But 245hp on such an small car... Yummm

Torque will have a much bigger impact compared to the NA N43 engine. Power is not much more on the N20, and even less compared to the old 6 cylinder, but torque will make the car faster than the old one.

...and the 1.8 liter? Isn't that supposed to be the 1.3 liter 3 cylinder with 150 hp?

Absolutly and if its true about the weight, then ....

No, sadly not. I'm currently in a 320d (M pack FL), and I am keeping it until the F32 comes out.
Though if I had 140k Euros to spend, I would have been on the list no doubt. The 6er coupe blows my mind
Good memory though! I was pretty much the first one in my country with the E63. And one of the few with SMG gearbox (which I personally liked a lot)

Black Sapphire / Chateau Leather? 19" elipsoid wheels?

They will make use of the new N20 in the 1er, and probably the upcoming 3 cylinder too, but that engine is not official yet. Though that 3 cylinder might find it's way to the Mini. But the N20 will not.

So, no 1.6T 4cyl Mini's engine on the 1er? What about that autobild article? Is it false?

Scott any word on a 1.6T or 1.5T petrol engine in the 1er or 3er? :t-cheers:

How big is the US market for the F20 hatch & how big would it need to be?

I've copied a few quotes for Eni from the “BMW 5GT sales disappointing” thread below relative to the question about bringing the F20 Hatch to the USA. Thank you Eni.

BMW niche model sales figures

1Q 2011 sales ... 2010 annual sales

1er 3-door: 5,636 ... 31,980
1er coupe: 5,544 ... 26,191
1er cabrio: 4,799 ... 24,803

“… it makes me wonder what their sales planes for X1, 6er GC, 3er GT will be etc.

Not to mention current BMWNA CEO thinks EVs are not a great solution - and he had to officially take the words back since his personal opinion contradicts BMW AG policy on EV.

And that back then when BMW was developing the new MINI the officials from BMWNA were convinced MINI won't succeed in USA, and would fail there sales wise. Really?

It makes me think BMWNA don't know it's own market very well.

So how big do you think the market is for the F20 hatch in the US, how much are they willing to pay? What is the business case for bringing the car to the US?

Taking as a starting point the 2012 128i coupe, optioned the way I like, it lists for $44,489. Option the 328i coupe the same way and it lists for approximately $5k more. If a 128i 3-dr hatch were optioned the same way, and it was available in the US for a list of $42,500 or so, I'd buy it. Is it reasonable? Are there enough others like me? I don't know. I wouldn't pay this much for a loaded Mini, but I would a BMW.

What do people think?

1er Coupe!

Much better! (y)

Is it real? I think I really like it, but the kidneys are almost squared now.

Hard to say since it's a small picture but from what I can tell it looks hideous...

I have to say, that looks amazing. If it is real, I'd imagine it would be the class leader in looks, with the elegant yet familiar A3 and fussy A-Class behind it.

Black Sapphire / Chateau Leather? 19" elipsoid wheels?

Yes, exactly that!!! It was such a stunner beginning 2004 :eusa_pray

As for the leak (?): Like the grille shape, like the headlight shape. Now the real deal please?

Hard to say since it's a small picture but from what I can tell it looks hideous...

If with hideous means awesome then you're right.
And if it doesn't mean this, you'll come around.

Is it real? I think I really like it, but the kidneys are almost squared now.

Yeah. Call me crazy, but I really like them like that. And the headlights too.
