R8 Next Audi R8 Facelift Exposed in Unofficially Official Photo?

The Audi R8 is a mid-engine, 2-seater sports car, which uses Audi's trademark quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. It was introduced by the German car manufacturer Audi AG in 2006. Production ended in the first quarter of 2024. Production: June 2006 – March 2024 (45,949 Units), Model years: 2007–2024
Are my eyes playing tricks on me or has the rear-end side view changed for the better? That area was, just like the Cayman, the weakest part of the design IMHO. Seems better resolved/blended now.

As the Audi R8 product improvement moves toward an expected debut at the Paris Auto Show in September, more and more sightings of the new car are beginning to occur. Thus far, spy photographers have nabbed a disguised coupe and a partially facelifted R8 e-tron mule, though today even more details are emerging thanks to sightings of two different cars.
First up was what we believe to be a V8 coupe sporting the usual vinyl disguise wrap. These photos, while a new set, don’t particularly reveal much beyond previous photos of a similar car. That said, the photographer did happen to catch the car with its turn signal repeater activated, making it appear that the same row of LED light used in the R8′s daytime running light may also be utilized in amber for the turn signal… an interesting change.Later in the day, photographers encountered a second mule – this time a V10 and also completely undisguised except for some tape on the new headlight and taillight units. The undisguised car clearly reveals more details of the upcoming second-generation car, including hexagonal grille, head and taillight changes, as well as some changes that appear to carry over from the design of the R8 GT – outer intake grilles, rearview mirror shapes and round exhaust tips. Lastly, we also noticed a new R8 badge that appears to use the red parallelogram seen on S and RS models. Further intel about the R8 is also known. 4.2 FSI and 5.2 FSI engines remain, though a new S-tronic dual clutch transmission will replace the single clutch R-tronic from the current car. The transmission will be a welcome change for set-it-and-forget-it automatic drivers.

The car needs better fuel consumption as well as a two zone air con.

You're telling me. I got 12.5mpg on my last tank. That equates to 10.4mpg (US), and 22.6 l/100km.

The air con I couldn't care less about. You don't need it with the windows open (listening to the exhaust note bouncing off adjacent scenary).

I too think that they should keep the huge round exhaust for the GT.
But, since they are planning an RS version of the R8, maybe we'll have two big ones in the middle? Kind of Lambo style :)

After you posted the rear of the R8 GT, the round tips look better also on the other ones. Looks like both the R8 V8 and R8 V10 will get round tips. Not an issue in any case. I also like the new R8 logo. I always thought it should have been so as it is not a normal Audi but an Audi S/RS by Quattro GmbH.

I agree the R8 is the best looking supercar. This is what made its huge success. If only it was RWD.

But I guess the Gallardo replacement will be even better looking.

Have you actually driven an R8?

No I havn't driven any R8, but I have driven a Gallardo (500 PS). I am not a pro driver, but I'd prefere RWD even if I won't feel the difference, becauase I can't push the car to its limits.

Are you kidding, the R8 handles like a RWD car..................... only better.

LOL

Why doesn't Porsche make an AWD 911 GT3?

I don't won't to turn this thread into an eternal RWD vs. AWD thread. I just think it would be nice if both were offered, just like you can get a 911 Carrera 2S or a 911 Carrera 4S, a Gallardo LP560-4 or a Gallardo LP550-2. In any case I can't buy an R8, and if I could, I'd have it converted to RWD.

Back to topic:

When is the facelifted R8 to be revealed ? Paris 2012 ?

LOL :ROFLMAO: This has to be the funniest comment I have read all year.

Why doesn't Porsche make an AWD 911 GT3?

In that case why does the racing version of the GTR have RWD? I think it's more to do with the role Porsche wish the GT3 to take and less to do with which system is better.

I don't won't to turn this thread into an eternal RWD vs. AWD thread.

I can appreicate that but Audi have always been about AWD on their performance models and since you brought up the RWD vs AWD thing if it were to turn into this type of discussion then remember who started the whole thing.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
