I already love this car, the X5 is such a special car. I'm still sure that I'm not imagining all the details of the car correctly so I can't wait to see live pics without camo. BMW are still on top when it comes to making the best looking rims I think.

This is exactly the same kind of update the E class had from W210 to 211. It's a new model, but it's very similiar to the old one, which was a success.

The problem with W211 was it came before its major competitors - E60 5er and new A6: both with more contemporary design, while W211 was wearing an old-fashioned suit. And had much more reliability issues.

E70 is coming right after its major competitiors, and with modern styling. And definitely with less reliability issues yhan W211, or even E53.

E70 will retain the title of global bestseller in the segment.

I think the W211 is a top seller, if not more than the 5er then certainly competitive.

Anyhow, back on topic. I like the looks of this SUV. It's got the sleek but muscular looks that I admire about the XC90. It's a successful evolution of the X5. It looks good to me all over, whereas the new ML looks good but is still a little awkward in parts.

Time will tell if the conservative way was the best for BMW, though admittedly it should still be well received since it won't date so quickly, as the Q7 and ML have only recently come out.

I like it too - you can easily tell that it is an X5, yet you can also tell that it has been refreshed.

It really does when you compare it with ALL the other new BMW models. Strange really, to keep it so close to the original. The E39 and E46 both sold like crazy too, and their designs changed pretty radically....

It doesn't bother me though, since the facelifted current X5 already looks better and more modern than 90% of all SUVs I see here

Well to me the design of the exsisting X5 is super nice but its old compared to the ML and the Q7.. but this modell will surely look more fresh..but will it last in the same shape and form..we allready had this for 6 years or so..can we take 6 more??

At first sight the second generation X5 looks like it carries on with the main characteristics from its predecessor. The new model has been developed under the code-name E 70.

However, looking closer, the main difference is that the newcomer is about 16 cm longer and 6 cm wider than the current model. As a result, there is enough room provided for a third row of seats much like all the other modern luxury off-roaders. The ability for the X5 to accommodate up to seven passengers has become a must-have feature to stay competitive. Also the dashboard of BMW’s biggest off-roader has been revised to incorporate all new technical gadgets like a radar governed cruise control and BMW’s first night vision. An evolution of BMW’s x-Drive AWD system is in place, plus advanced wheel-by-wheel traction control.

Power is expected to come from two revamped diesel engines, a 3.0 litre six cylinder with 231 HP and a 4.5 litre V8 with 330 HP and from gasoline engines starting with a 3.0 litre six cylinder producing 258 HP up to a new V8 5.0 litre with 367 HP.

The new X5’s release is scheduled for October 2006, an M-version could be in the pipeline for later on.
