Re: New S Class W221 Pics and Info *Continued thread 2*

The horizontal stitching shows that the car has exclusive passion leather, nearly the whole interior is equipped with leather.
They wanted to achieve a "cleaner" design, less buttons, less lines and also cleaner looking door panels - therefore the combination of leather AND plastic would have been the wrong direction.

Bruno Sacco was the chief of design, but that only says that he was responsible for the design his designers created - Sacco also never designed an interior.

Funny how the design chiefs always get ALL the credit for their designers work(another reason why I chose not to become a car designer). Remember how everyone was saying that Chris Bangle designed the E65/66 7? Then we learned it was Adrian Van Hooydonk. Very seldomly is any of the particular member of the design team given credit for their work This is just how it works in car design, unfortunately.

Well as I said before, I'm glad they have got away from the gathered leather - I never liked the Maybach's upholstery either - but it is now available with a more tailored interior too - like in the 57S - it is so much nicer. The W221 is a big improvement IMO, but the entry level interior does look a little sparse - especially the rear doors.

You are right Stuttgarter, but that's the same for an architect or a fashion designer too, seldom is a design or collection entirely the work of only one person.

As always, you'll need to pay more for better luxuries in MB cars.

Clearly the entry-level S-Class interiors are a step down from its competitors.

That picture also has unpolished wood - I have a certain distaste for that.

I can't help but notice the door for the rear passengers. Does this door have no leather on it? Is that some sort of plastic?

Re: New S Class W221 Pics and Info *Continued thread 2*

It`s very plain looking alright. This might be one of the base models like the S350. Leather trim doesn`t come standard on every S-Class model btw.

Re: New S Class W221 Pics and Info *Continued thread 2*

Funny, how the S350 is the mainstream model here. :t-crazy2:

Why can't Mercedes make essentials like leather trim standard? Shouldn't all their cars be of the best standard? Why deprive the lesser models of the luxuries of the S-Class moniker? Every model, including the S350 or even lesser models like the S280 (if there is going to be one) should be rewarded with the basics of an S-Class. That picture with that trim is just unacceptable. :eusa_thin

Re: New S Class W221 Pics and Info *Continued thread 2*

I agree, It doesnt matter what the engine size is, it should be prestigous because it's an S class. Leather with real wood obviously should come standard with the S.

Re: New S Class W221 Pics and Info *Continued thread 2*

Well this all comes back to what is that material on the doors? Is it leather? or MB text? So are the doors only leather when there is the horizontal stitching or deisgno? No one seems to know whether that is leather or not. The stiching is apparently part of an option package, but is that like possibly better leather than the stitched door panel?

This door panel looks plane but there isn't much base about it I don't think. It doesn't have moveable seats but those aren't standard on any other S, the seats aren't heated so you don't see a swicth for them, and there is no rear window shade button. It does look plane, but there isn't much difference between that and a standard S 500 doorpanel besides the stitching I think.

Re: New S Class W221 Pics and Info *Continued thread 2*

You are correct Mirage77, it is usual for Mercedes to charge extra for all the luxuries.

Re: New S Class W221 Pics and Info *Continued thread 2*

Its easy for black interiors to not photograph well and look particularly cheap. Especially if the picture itself is crap. Another interior colour or better picture wouldn't look 1/2 as bad.

Re: New S Class W221 Pics and Info *Continued thread 2*

Still, this photo is then a correct and accurate representation of what a S-Class interior should look like.

I just can't respect a company which allows its luxury flagship sedan to turn out like that, ie. when it comes with no options at all. Even stripped down, it should look at least on par with the competition.

Re: New S Class W221 Pics and Info *Continued thread 2*

We were talking about the door panels of the M class with no leather... The newly released GL even though has the same designed door panels as ML there is a nice difference! Leather on doors with stitching!! Check it out!

Re: New S Class W221 Pics and Info *Continued thread 2*

I agree the S should come one way only as a minimum. The minimum shouldn't have corners cut. It should look inside like a loaded S. At least i'd say.

The M is not a flagship btw.

yea but it is to tempt the people into buying the model up each time, and it is a pretty good way of making people buy extras or a higher model, especially alloy wheels, i swear they put them retarded alloys on the 350 just to make you buy better ones! but i suppose if all the cars had say the same interiors then assembly could be speeded up slightly and the prices would come down.....but then where do you stop, rear tv's as standard? (they are like 4600 euros for just two 8 inch tv's and a dvd player! then tv tuner is 1000 euros, then some special headphones another 700 euros! its insane, if they stick that as standard think how much the price would go up. same with the w220 and navigation though, at first it was optional! i like saw 1 s class which didnt have navigation! i have never seen an upholstery one, yet in germany leather is extra...but after a while navigation was made standard, although leather and metallic paint still are not on the 350! who buys a $80000 car without metallic paint and leather?

Re: New S Class W221 Pics and Info *Continued thread 2*

I mean as too interior trim, not TV's and such. Leather, wood, detail. Car should have a minimum standard. It is the top model. The pics with cloth and material around the car was terible. No way to realease even the lowest model S on the streets. Has to have a certain level of class. :D

That's pretty ridiculous I think because the S class is hardly a cracker jack toy. It is still the flagship of Mercedes Benz. Ok so German car brands have a way to rip you off by making an option list longer than the Webster dictionary. A nice interior is the bare necessity in a car like this.

Re: New S Class W221 Pics and Info *Continued thread 2*

in that rear seat pic with no electric seats, is there another pic showing what the rear arm rest looks like? i wonder if that gets wood if you dont have electric seats?

Re: New S Class W221 Pics and Info *Continued thread 2*

I dont mean loaded as in TV's and DVD's. Im talking about interior trim and such.. Make it look like an S and not cheap. I hate seeing a top of the line car with material inside.
