New Lexus sports car in the works? (Teaser concept image inside)

Can't wait. If LFA is too expensive and GT86 not enough powerful, so we can get something in between? I love it japanese are coming back.

That is what I would hope for, but I don't want to get my expectations too high.

Those are huge. Could this be the new Lexus Supra? Wonder what engine could this have? LFA derived V8? Huh, I am so excited!

Without question. Lexus clearly has a fire lit under its a$$ as they missed the parade and are now being left behind. They're clearly trying to salvage things by going the "sporty-aggressive" route to earn them some "street cred". Will it work, or will it simply abandon and single out all that and those who built the brand to where it had gotten? To me, Lexus just doesn't understand "sexiness", even the LFA isn't sexy to me, there's just something about Lexus' tactics in design that can't lose that boring stigma to my senses, no matter how flamboyant they go. I've seen the new GS, and it's a mess in some ways, very conservative and boring sides and rear, yet extremely hilariously over-tried, messy, anti-harmonious front. However, Articles have been coming in and some have said that the car has sportier and more dynamic driving characteristics than the 5-Series which it was clearly benchmarked from.

whoa, never saw this coming. Cant wait!

I reckon this is going to be the Lexus alternative to the SLS/R8.

Well, actually the FT-86 concept was presented at the TMS 2009. Three years later, at the TMS 2011 the GT86 production version is revealed. Three years from a far from production concept to finished car is not bad. Look how long BMW talk about a Z2. Four years have past and they didn't even show one concept. If this Lexus makes it to production and it is good, it will just be at he right moment, as for now I do not plan on such a purchase.

Looks like it will definitely be a coupe. I'm hoping it's a more sporting SC that echoes alot of the LFA and will be accessible to the masses. It seems the lines are more flowing and organic versus the LFA's more creased look. I'm liking the direction Lexus is taking lately.

Lexus offers interior glimpse of new Detroit-bound concept

EDIT: Note the paddle shifters, similar to the LFA

We can clearly see it is a coupé and not a hardtop convertible. We do not know whether is is a 2 seater or a 4 seater. In the same time the roof is very sloppy so it could be a 2+. But from this pic I do not think is some king of powerful Toyota GT86. Then, is it a hybrid? It could be. Also we don't know if it will be more "Mercdes" type of car or "Porsche". I really can't wait for this, because I am hopping for an affordable LFA and please NA V8. And this can't be impossible. The only negative of the LFA is the price, and Lexus could have thought this over.

Nice write-up K-A, IMO/my perspective and thoughts is a "copy+paste" of yours, regarding Lexus. And yes, the LFA isn't sexy at all;)

:t-cheers:

Right now everything looks very promising. From the way the roof slopes down just over the front seats make it seem like a 2-seater coupe. But, it might end up being a 2 + 2.

I could only hope it is using the LFA formula on a lower scale with an N/A V8 engine, but if Lexus ends up dropping the ball and putting a "hybrid" BS on this car, I am sure it will be a failure and a disaster. Hybrids have their place, but definitely not in a car that is from the ground-up a performance car.

Lexus Netherlands is calling it 'Lexus LF-LC concept'.

So it is looking to be a sport coupe and above everything, it would not be a hybrid. That could only mean good things.

While I too am skeptical when it comes to mixing hybrid into a sports car, rumor of a hybrid NSX has me wondering if it could be pulled off. I would still rather prefer an unadulterated feel of a solid ICE, lightweight, and good handling dynamics. And I think, under Toyoda-san, Lexus has something to prove. They have proven to build pretty solid cars in the past. Now, as K-A pointed out, it's time to prove they can build something that will be will be vaunted and talked about in the future. The LFA was a great way to put others on notice.

Shame it's just a concept and whatever production reality lexus half heartedly spews out in ten years will look nothing like it.

Half hearted? If Lexus does put the same passion and spirit as it did with the LFA, it will be top class without a doubt. There are not many exotics that have interiors that hold up to that of the LFA.

I am being 'cautiously optimistic'. Ideal would be a new Lexus SC coupe with similar philosphy they used for the LFA without all the exotic bits. But, I might be way off.

Ok I'll give you that. With the LFA they put effort into it. It did take them an eternity though. Everything else they have produced over the last few years has been so lacklustre.

I have to agree. I generally don't like Lexus as a brand, but that might change if Lexus does all the right things.
