Jag förstår. :)

I was looking for similar tests in my stash of car magazines but I only found a Finnish mag from 2003 where they were testing different four-wheel-drive systems in wintry conditions. They had a Suzuki Jimny with RWD/switchable 4WD, a Honda HR-V (from 100 % FWD to 50:50 split), a Skoda Octavia with the Haldex system (from 98:2 to 50:50 front/rear) and a Subaru Legacy with continuous 50:50 AWD. Sadly, the only hill test they did was towing a freakin' Mitsubishi Pajero up an icy 14% slope which doesn't sound exactly fair but I guess they wanted to prove a point. Anyways, the Jimny managed a whopping 2 meters in RWD but 29 meters in 4WD... The Skoda with its Haldex system disabled (=FWD) managed 16 meters, 83 meters in AWD... The HR-V managed 40 meters and the Subaru was the undisputed king with 103 meters.

the test was from german Autobild but translated into swedish in swedish Autobild. Cars included was A4, 3-series and a FWD car(dont remember which).

Why am I not in the least bit surprised; Subaru symmetrical all-wheel drive kicks ass and it's only going to get better.

Woo hoo! :t-woohoo: :eusa_danc  :t-party:

I know... I'm a closet Subaru fanboy disguised as a moderator! ;)

Re: Forthcoming Audi RS6 talk

Grrrr! I'm soooo pissed off 'cause i've never had a chance to try Subau, any of them!!! :t-banghea I wanna try that so much praised AWD, i'm sure it's amazing, right Mr. Boruvka? ;)

How about inviting me to SA for a test drive of your Subaru, huh? ;)

:t-cheers:

Re: Forthcoming Audi RS6 talk

Guys, isn't it time to go back on topic now ? :)

Re: Forthcoming Audi RS6 talk

Why should RS6 have a supercharger when Rs4 dont use it. Audi has proven with the RS4 that they can build N/A engines. My gut tell me that this will be the case with Rs6 as well.

Just_me, can you find a translator that translates thw whole article. It's very interesting with a lot of news!

I'll try to translate the most important stuff myself later.

Re: Forthcoming Audi RS6 talk

The article says it's going to have a two turbos and a supercharger (basically the same technology as in the VW Golf TSI, except with an extra turbo) now doesn't it?

:eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

Now surely that's gotta be speculation if not purely imaginative!
Still, I like the idea. Holy cow... imagine the plumbing on that thing.

I seriously doubt this...

of course its not officiell - its based on rumours - as usually. Nothing is officiell until we hear it from themselves.

I have a question to Audi people. Before the RS4 was released there was talk that the RS4 was going to get turbo, that didnt happen. All new S-models and including the new RS4 use a N/A engine. So why should the RS6 use turbo?

Also you should learn a lesson by now. Remember when everyone said that S6/S8
was going to get about 450hp, that didnt happen either. It "only" got 420hp. So dont get to excited about those 600hp.

That just sounds like pure overkill. It was not long ago that the complexity of having a sequential turbo system was too much - so having two turbos AND a supercharger just sounds way too 'up there'.

Anyway, doesn't having two turbos make the supercharger redundant?

That's obvious. It's more about the concept and the absurdity of the whole thing. Hence my surprise. Anyone with a clear understanding of the twin-charger technology will realise that the technology is limited to in-line engines with one turbo and one supercharger... whilst a V configuration with two turbos and a supercharger might be remotely mechanically feasible - it just isn't practical nor economically viable.

But for just a second, picture if VW can squeeze 120 kW from a Twincharger 1.4 litre imagine the possibility for higher displacement engines irrespective of the feasiblity thereof.

Umm, the S8 did get 450 bhp. Only the S6 got 420 bhp from (slightly) lower rpm.

Redundant only if the turbos are mounted in sequence, otherwise a supercharger would still function in exactly the same way as it would for the 1.4 Twincharger engine which requires high exhaust energy to spool the turbo up and whilst this is taking place, the supercharger provides boost from low rpm.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
