Tom Ford who works for Fifth Gear and Top Gear magazine, proclaims the Audi RS6 as the best thing of this year's Frankfurt Auto Show.

I proposed to my wife at an indicated 163mph in a last-generation RS6 saloon. And I've always had a soft spot for inter-galactic Avants, all the way from RS2 through RS4 to RS6.

I've stuck with the slight obsession through huge amounts of turbo lag, V6 Biturbos, turbo'd V8s. No surprise what my car of the show is then. Nestled in a back corner on the Audi stand is a brand new RS6 Avant in red, with charcoal wheels. These days we're talking a V10 with two fanatically neat turbos installed under the engine bay. So this is the same engine (basically) as the Lamborghini Gallardo with forced induction, taking it to a scarcely comprehensible 580PS.

It has all the hallmarks of a great Uber-Audi. Faintly forgettable profile meatily underscored by huge wheels, and a stance straight out of the streetfighter's handbook.
The brakes are similarly huge. The Quattro four-wheel drive has a rear bias, the interior a paragon of sober design. The dials are like Bell and Ross watches, the auto 'box will be slushy and torque-laden. The boot has straps for errant luggage - you're going to need them. The ingredients are all there. A car that hides skin-flaying performance under a thin veneer of civility. Just what makes a great 'RS' car.

All I want to do is be the one who does the Merc C63 AMG Wagon, BMW M5 Touring and RS6 Avant group test. Sod the small cars, I need to drive a near-600bhp estate.

I really like those wheels!!
Those are some of the best looking 5-spoke factory wheels I`ve seen on a sport wagon-sedan car. The design is simple and pure yet very orignal with the rounded points at the spokes. This is automotive fashion at it`s best.

Btw, I like the dark blue so far in the RS6. The white is nice as well but the blu is outstanding!

Btw, I like the dark blue so far in the RS6. The white is nice as well but the blue is outstanding!

I'll have to agree with you here. Blue is probably the best choice for the RS6.

WCF on the RS6 in Frankfurt:

"The environment might have been high on the agenda at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but that didn’t stop the big guns turning out with the kind of firepower that could win a small war and there was plenty of hot metal to drool over.

And while there was niche cars aplenty, perhaps the most exciting car there was the simply stupid 580bhp Audi RS6. Boasting a twin-turbo version of the Lamborghini Gallardo’s V10, complete with Audi’s own FSi and four-wheel-drive, this machine should prove beyond explosive. The RS6 is quite rightly a legend, especially in Avant form for the full sleeper effect, and even though this one comes with bulging arches and exhausts big enough to spit out the driver, it’s still going to be hard to comprehend when this big barge leaves supercars trailing in its wake.

And with 479lb/ft of torque the RS6 makes BMW’s M5 look ever so slightly weedy and even beats Mercedes at its own game. Which is good news, because they won’t take that lying down.

Audi storming to the head of the super saloon field is a virtual gold-plated invitation to BMW to respond and there are already spy shots of a turbocharged M5 out there, so watch this space for more entertainment.

The question is simply who will breach the 600hp barrier first because of this, Mercedes or BMW?

This RS6 is just beyond words. The torque curve is as flat as any I've ever seen and the interior is to die for.

Now bring on the sedan for the U.S. market!
