A6/S6/RS6 New Audi RS6 Avant Official Thread

Re: Official pics and info: new Audi RS6

Yep, I also agree with RICHBOY, it`s only logical that the RS models compete with M and AMG. I believe the S-Models are Audi`s answer to the sports packaged Mercedes and BMW models. Audi just has their own unique way of doing business with the sports-line calls S. I think anyone would agree with me here.

just so you know, there is a sportpackage for you standard A5 so you dont need a S5 to get your A5 sportier.

Re: Offical C6 RS6 thread II

You don't seem to get it Klier do you? Audi's cost more then BMW's and that's that! It probably has something to do with the cost of building top notch interiors, which by all accounts BMW doesn't feel the need to invest as much into as Mercedes and Audi! I'm not saying BMW's interior's aren't nice, but it's not Audi's equal. Audi's S-Line has a totally different philosophy then BMW's M-division Klier, BMW's M is suppose to be the definition of driving dynamics, where Audi's S-Line represents the middle ground between luxury and performance! BMW's CSL doesn't offer equal amenties as the standard M3, it has to sacrifice a good number of creature comforts in order to shed access weight. Audi's RS division has no intention of sacrificing it's 1st rate interior amenties in order to achieve such performance, it wouldn't fit Audi's philosophy, or it's consumer base imho. Kinda like a number of BMW loyaliest believe a supercar doesn't fit BMW's philosophy!

S4 vs. E90 335i
RS4 vs. E90 M3

S5 vs. E92 335i
RS5 vs. E92 M3

RS6 vs. M5

Well atleast we both agree with the RS6 and the M5 being rivals, which doesn't make much sense considering you think S and M are rivals and not RS and M.:t-crazy2: Why the change of heart?:eusa_thin

I do not think Audi's cost more cause of their interior (or not largely cause of them), cause while they are nice, they are definitely not 10 grand better than the BMW ones. I think the cost difference has more to do with all the quattro hardware. And there in I think lies the problem with Audi - it's strength - AWD - is also its weakness when it comes to pricing. When getting an Audi (at least a powerful one), you have no option but to pay for quattro - which probably restricts the potential buyers to people who specifically need or think they need AWD and is ready to pay the premium for it.
Disclaimer: I just made all that up, so it is all probably just bs. :t-cheers:

And as for what model compares with what, while forum warriors like to compare cars with similar performance, potential buyers compare cars of similar price (and of course type).

I agree with most of your post, except your position on the + & - of quattro. Depending on which comparison you go by the price difference between the two vary. I believe Vicki said the price difference between the 335i and the S5 as tested was 5 grand. Justifying such a price gap falls apond the consumer, if your a bimmer guy it's outragous, if your a Audi guy it's well worth it. I will say that damn near every comparison gives the over-all apearance advantage to the S5, which they've made it appoint to say it's the one that feels more special, has a real sense of occasion. Shouldn't that count for something? :)

Re: Official pics and info: new Audi RS6

S5 looks special and demands/gets attention.

335i is a dime a dozen in the UK already.

I am sure Audi would love their cars to be a "dime a dozen" instead.

I still dont feel this car as much as RS4. There are other germans I rather spend my money on. 580 hp is impressive though.

Re: Official pics and info: new Audi RS6

Re: Official pics and info: new Audi RS6

I get what you're saying Andreas. The RS6 lacks the taut, compact proportions of the RS4 but, in the same vein, an M5 Touring also doesn't shape up as gamely as an RS4 Avant - nor does an E63 Touring for that matter. These are all big wagons - bigger even than a Volvo wagon and they're bound to look less purposeful than their more compact juniors.

Still, taken in the context of the large uber-wagon concept, I'd say that the RS6 is the wagon of the moment. And it looks fantastic in white! Thanks Richboy. Is there a poll for RS6 vs. M5 Touring vs. E63 T?

No I didn't see a point in making one, all votes would fall along party lines....;)

Re: Official pics and info: new Audi RS6

Bad colour choice. It makes the car look like a bar of soap. The contours and the lines aren't visible.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
