I have never heard of this tire insurance, how does it work and what sorts situation does the insurance cover?

In the U.S. you can get insurance for wheels and tires. If you hit a pot hole and blow out a tire and bend a wheel they will cover that.
They will cover a tire if it will not hold air, if it gets a side wall bubble, I am not sure if that is covered.

Yes, it was destroyed by a nail!

Back tire , run flats on the 6-er. We did not know ( and could not tell)
The car told us

Wheel insurance came from the car dealer, when you are buying the car they try to sell a bunch of additional stuff.

When we asked about the price of tires and wheels, we could not believe the price for the wheel insurance: $500 for 5 years, or 50,000 miles!

It covers tires and wheels ( provided they are not purposly damaged).

Since some houses in out neighborhood are still under construction, we figured the probability of getting some nasty stuff
( nail, metal chips, glass, whatever) are "slightly" enhanced. It was a gamble..and it paid off

Naruto: if you need a statistical outlier... way back I paid $78 to do repairs on a POS Chevette... thoses were the days

I don't know if that helps but i crashed my Clio like a dumbass. I forgot to pull the handbrake when i stopped to talk to a friend just outside the garage. So the car started moving and it ended up onto a Corolla Sedan. Thank God, i only broke my left indicator plus some scratches on the left part of the bumper, and some scratches on the Corolla.

I don't know how much it will cost me. I'll take care of it when i come back from my trip!
