dudes, maybe we are all wrong and the car that we are looking for has been shown
remember, it only says that the car debuts in august - not that they show it officially or anything
and all in all, there has been an M car arround in august that no one expected - the X5 M spy shots

Scott didn't specify which August.
Perhaps he meant August 2008. Or even August 2009, or 2010.

Just like jack said. Scott referred to the mysterious X5 "mule" with M V10 engine under the bonnet - a mystery M-power car that debuted in August. Nobody said anything about that mystery car being a production model. As well no word about premiere or press release - only a debut.
So, it's evident Scott was talking about "X5 M" mule.

But from where I see it there is a huge difference between M -Power car to Debut in August and spy pics of X5 M mule!!!!!!
Come on, you have to agree that the thread's title is very misleading, especially in a forum like this!
All of us here know very well what a car debut means and the title of the thread was very specific.
Maybe Scott doesn't owe anyone an explanation here, but I can understand the frustration that comes when a person's expectation is raised and then abruptly shattered .

Btw, do you guys really believe Scoot has something officially to do with BMW AG???
BMW marketing would NEVER systematically spread misleading info to generate publicity.
And be sure they would chase Scott in the case his info was correct.
I wonder why BMW do not take legal action against Scott because he is destroying BMW AG reputation - pretending he act on behalf of BMW marketing department???

I am quite a cynic, but yet I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt.
Nope- we are not supposed to take all his post as prophecy because even if he is a BMW employee with lots of reputation, I know how corporations work. I have been asked many a times to tell my clients something that I know we aren't technologically ready to deliver only for my boss to say "change of plan-deal with it".
Did I intenionally mislead my clients- no, did that make me a non- representative of my firm, not so. Do I lose credibility with my clients- yes in some cases.
Do I think Scott is a BMW employee- cynically yes. I can't confirm if he is or not because I do not know him as a person neither do I know what his real world credentials are- however I take him for his words albeit being cynical.
Wow man no diss to you..but seriously..are we now supposed to read his post like some prophecy..and try to find the hidden message..

simple as that, they want him to do so, i think that bmw has seen the power of internet communities
but there is another problem, if you work so far inside a company and report about stuff thats far from being offical, things can go wrong or change from one day to the other
i mean, in case of the 1series, they also that to change some stuff pretty close to the announcment, just because they decided to go with the 4 door first(thats what i heard)
simple as that, they want him to do so, i think that bmw has seen the power of internet communities

NO YELLOW-PRESS-LIKE TITLES!!
The title was clearly misleading. Everyone knows what a "debut" means when you're talking about a new car. No need to look for other meanings just to justify a misleading info.
