My new old car

The first and most important changes I am going to make:

- big brake kit, preferably Brembo

- Completely new adjustable suspension

- LSD, probably Quaife but I need to do some research there.
1. Try something stock, for better serviceability. You can probably fit something from an E92 M3 or G30 340i with just a set of brackets.

2. My thoughts exactly!

3. Have you heard of Wavetrac? That's what I'm planning for my E39.

I have to check but I think the normal rear tires are 225 on the 130i?

245s is what they put on an X5

Grip has also to do with ride height. My E39 with stock springs and 225 tyres had more rear end grip than M Sport springs (stock Eibach that is) with 255 tyres (stock 18" diameter).

@klier

Also get a set of braided brake lines from Goodridge. They are top quality and make a huge difference, especially with stock brakes.

1. Definitely a good idea! I had that in mind as well, but Brembo is just so.....sweet lol. Maybe just settle with biiger M3/135/335i braks or something indeed.

2. yes

3. Nope. Will look into that for sure.

So yeah I have to look into all of that as well. It's going to be interesting putting it all together and make it work as intended. Not as easy as just buying stuff and putting it on the car. That could potentially make it worse than stock.

Which tires do you have?

If it’s on run flat, bin it and get Michelin pilot sport or Continental sport contact 7.

I had Bridgestone RFT (E93, M suspension, styling 230 Wheels) and went zu SC7, the difference is huge.

Now it rides like it should from factory. It’s like having a new suspension, it’s still stiff but not to chrashy.

The car came with Goodyear Eagles I believe. Will go for Michelins when they're worn out.
That’s usually RFT.

I would change the tires before you change the suspension.

I thought about a KW or Bilstein, because with the RFT it felt to bouncy, with the SC7 however it’s absolutely perfect.

Contis are generally a bit stiffer, but there’s more steering feel, that’s why I was told to take the SC7 instead of the Michelin PS.

Exactly!

Also, worth mentioning is the Bridgestone Potenza Sport tyre. After two sets of Michelin Pilot Sport I tried this on the E39 and I gotta say I prefer it.

Yeah, I ditched the RFT's on my E87. Wasn't really performance related, but on our local roads, which are appalling, the more compliant tyres certainly improved the ride.

Congrats! What an awesome spec, and N52 is the pinnacle of NA BMW engines, they sound amazing and are so reliable. I’m jealous we didn’t get these, looks like a ton of fun.

It disappoints me so much that this thread is missing pics of Klier in the driver seat, giving us his sexy stare.

Anyway, congratulations on that lovely Bimmer, and enjoy it in good health!

Look closer...

I loved the E87 ("Hängebauchschwein BMW") from the get go. Especially the 2 door versions. And the E82 coupe and E88 cabriolets...oh lala !

Lovely blue beemer! So the face lifted one has electric instead of hydraulic steering? The plastics inside still look good quality. Any reason why you didnt want a that you could upgrade to an android unit? I have to admit that the cabin looks less dated without a screen.

Thanks. Yeah the pre facelift is the one with the hydraulic steering. It's that big black contraption on the right side of the engine when you look at the engine bay pic.

Reason for not having a screen is like you say. I don't need one in a car anyways. Phone will do just fine.

Fun little car, Congratulations! What a good sounding and carismathic engine this is, I had it for many years, miss it a lot.
