My New BMW M135i

So, I've put in my order for a new car. I've decided to go for the BMW M135i (3-door). I was tempted by the new BMW M4 Coupe but I'm going to wait for three years. By then the BMW M2 will be in production and also the M4 will have new options such as the Performance Package, so maybe I'll go for one of those. The M135i is a brilliant car and is just what I need. I was waiting for the 1 Series facelift but I got such a good deal that I decided not to wait. Two months ago @SCOTT27 said the facelift was the next "release" by BMW but we're still waiting for it. A dealer on another forum who is reliable said he knows for a fact the facelift isn't out until next March. Who knows.

Even if the facelift is announced tomorrow, I wouldn't take delivery of it until September anyway, so I'm happy.

I should get a build date today at some point which I expect will be around the end of June. It is technically replacing my Audi A1 but I have that until October. Advice on what to answer when people ask why, as a single person, I need four cars would be appreciated.

The spec is as follows:

BMW M135i (3-door)

Valencia Orange
Black Dakota leather

8-speed Sports automatic transmission

Aluminium Hexagon Interior Trim
High-gloss black trim finishers

Driver comfort pack (with the addition of FRONT park distance control)
Professional Sat Nav
Sun protection glass
Adaptive Xenon headlights
Harmon Kardon Hi-Fi
M badge deletion (side)
Exterior mirros folding and auto dimming
Extended storage
Seat heating front
Adaptive M suspension

Fantastic, congrats.

Manual gearbox not an option?

Yes, manual is standard, but I chose the 8-speed Sports auto because it's such a great gearbox and I have the manual R8 for my heel and toe practice. :D

On top of that it's more economical, gives the car better performance, and this will be my every day car, so will be driving it in London and places like that. On top of that, Chris Harris says he'd choose it with the auto, and that's good enough for me. (y)

Congrats Betty.

Question, is it the norm to always order cars in Europe vs just buying from the dealer's stock?

Yes, or at least in Holland it is. You buy a car that doesn't exist yet, and it will be made in the specification you want, not something from what the dealer has in stock. Although that of course happens too, as you usually get bigger discounts. A friend of mine just bought a Bimmer with around 12k discount from a dealer's stock. Pretty impressive when the car costs 42k newly ordered (116i Mpack)

Congrats Betty.

As @klier says really. There's no hard and fast rule, but if you DO order from dealer's stock then you'll get a bigger discount. I think the higher the value of the car, the more likely it is you'll order your car rather than buy a pre-existing car. And of course, you have to wait longer for an "order". I get the impression the U.S. has less variation in possible specs because a lot of things are standard which are options in Europe, and you have a lot more "packages", so I assume there is a greater chance that the dealer will have your EXACT spec in stock, or would be able to source it.

As it happens though, I got a 15.4% discount and the dealer had a build slot within the next few weeks, so it's possible I'll have it before the end of June.

Congrats Betty.

Over here dealers place orders for cars they want as stock as well as customer car orders, any dealer can pick from this dealer car pool in any part of the country which is the first thing they will check and if the spec is the same as you wanted or aren't that fussy you'll get your car within a few days if in stock or quicker than a new order but if you want a particular spec on your car then your only option is to place an order and wait the 10-16weeks it takes.

Hey, Betty, great spec! I don't think I'd change a thing had it been my car, except maybe VO for white or black.
