S-Class W140 My Father's Mercedes-Benz C140 S600

The Mercedes-Benz W140 is a series of flagship vehicles manufactured by Mercedes-Benz from 1991 to 1998 in sedan/saloon and coupe body styles and two wheelbase lengths (SE and SEL). Mercedes-Benz unveiled the W140 S-Class at Geneva International Motor Show in March 1991, with the sales starting in April 1991 and North American launch was on 6 August 1991.
On my previous. rather irregular trips to the U.S., I noticed that U.S.-American M-B owners seem to like pin-striping the shoulder-lines of their cars. Something only very rarely seen here in western Europe.
Interesting, Jimmy. In Europe I usually see these kind of pin-striped shoulderlines only on British cars like RR, Bentley or the older XJs.

The pin-stripes were a must on the series I & II XJs' , Mick.

Funny you mentioned that. My grandfather had 2 C140's he bought brand new- a 1997 S500 Coupe and a [U.S. model year] 1999 CL600. He kept both for 10 years each. The S500 had pinstripes that I hated and I convinced him not to have the dealer put them on his CL600.

That C126 is absolutely marvelous... Did I understand you correct your father owned it for 30 years now? In such a fine condition I can hardly believe he’s driven it for more than 50.000 km ;) Respect how he takes care of his car...
PS what about that drawn line on the side of it. I’ve never seen that before.

29 years to be exact. I remember loosing my mind as a youngster when he brought it home one night in late ‘89. It has 74k km to date I believe.

Every year he sends it to a local MB specialist for a full inspection, fluid top off, and a 12 hour detail. They do an amazing job everytime. Not cheap, but so worth it.

Yeah, @Jimmy. Pinstripes were a popular add-on by US dealer on older MB, Cadillacs, and Lincolns... Bentley & RR too. Too me it takes away from the cleanness of the profile, but there are certain applications that look great.

Not quite sure how pinstripes became a thing. Same goes for toneau tops on cars retirees buy.
