If Pagani can get a V12 built by AMG for their puny 200 Utopias to be built over 10 years then 1000 people who want to order a $350K V12 Maybach a year should definitely get their V12 engines instead of a V8. It makes economical sense and Mercedes will benefit as well as the rich customer. I reckon its probably more expensive to produce the hybrid powertrain and 4-cylinder in the C63 than the V12.
And these decisions were made years ago. They can’t just abandon the project now. That would be an even bigger fumble. They’re pouring a lot of money for these cars (including the AMG SUV) knowing that they’re gonna flop horribly. Interesting move by them. Gotta love the enthusiasm.

What’s the different thing? An electric high performance sedan with an SUV counterpart? Please.Mercedes would be a boring world without them. They don't settle for ordinary cars like their competitors. Throughout their history, they've been eager to do different things.
Yeah, that as well. They didn’t plan all of this EV downfall. It will be interesting to see both of these cars perform. And these decisions were made years ago. They can’t just abandon the project now. That would be an even bigger fumble.
