Reviews Monster's C-class Estate Review

Yes, I can hear some rubbing sound around the door frame, and a bit of wind noise coming from the driver side door. Apparently MB updated the specs of the door seal, instead of having the outer layer in felt and the inner layer in rubber, now both layers are covered in felt.

So do you find any changes?

So do you find any changes?
The rubbing noise is gone for now, besides that, I didn't really notice any difference in sound insulation. I haven't got the new shocks in yet, apparently that has to be ordered from Germany.

Half-arsed engineering, a rush-job, or cost-cutting gone wrong.

Possibly all of the above.

MB is not immune to those lately!
Not only lately. Like any other carmaker, they’ve never been immune to that. Remember the early years of the W124.

I took the car out tonight for a bit of highway driving, I can say I do notice the car is more quiet, the wind noise is gone, and the car is even better insulated.

I'm not that old :D

But, would you please tell me about the early years of the W124?
I remember fit and finish to very bad: interior parts falling off (door claddings and roof). Taxidrivers brought their W124 back to the factory and demanded a W123 in return. Rumour has it, that the early problems (1984/1985) led MB to producing the old W123 yet for more than a year until january 1986 (even after the W124 was introduced november 1984).

3 months on after the service and after about 1000 km (nothing compare to your mileage @Mick Briesgau) I am happy to say the creaking from the front suspension has not reappeared, same with the rubbing sound from the window trims. The wind noise is better suppressed too.

Also we didn't replace the front shock absorbers. The service manager decided to tighten up all the bolts, remove the rust on the wheel hub, reapply more grease at the suspension rubber bump stop, and tighten up the struct braces. This seems to have resolved the issues for now and I hope it stays this way.

The overall fuel consumption figure is at 11.3L/100 km with a mix of city driving and some spirited driving on the weekend.

I didn't realize I went over 10 000 km, in about 2.5 years. Here is the overall fuel consumption and average speed so far. The 2.0L Turbo engine isn't as fuel efficient as I thought it would be.

Well, seeing your average speed combined with the driven distance, even I wouldn’t be fuel efficiënt.
Congrats by the way with your first 10.000 km milestone...

I think this is a hard way to say if it's good or bad on fuel as it all depends on traffic start stop so on many factors ..

10000 in 2 years you seem like me you use your car a little ..Lol I use my mom's car mostly

^^
That's disgusting. Did someone key it or was it scuffed by another car?
It has to be keyed because the scratches is found above the rear bumper, close to the bottom edge of the licence plate, there is no way another car can make contact there without scratching the bumper.

Oh no, some idiots on the loose... looks like on the second picture, it’s almost down to the metal.
I managed to polish off the 1st scratches, but unfortunately the 2nd scratch is down to the metal. People in Sydney are just disgraceful. The car is barely driven and people have already keyed the side mirror cover and now this.

The car just reached 11111 km today so I decided to go for a long drive away from Sydney, and escape the heat by the beach. After some spirited driving, I am starting to feel like the engine performance is adequate for daily driving but I am left wanting for more. It is a great daily drive though, there is no major mechanical issues, and most of the squeaks have been fixed by the dealer. Fuel consumption is still around mid 11L/100km to low 12L/100km.

It is crazy how times fly, in a blink of an eye, the car has already turn 4 years old :wideyed:

In the 4 years, I have just put on over 18600 km, which is probably insignificant compare to the long trips the other members drive every year.

So far, I have to say it didn't feel like the Mercedes of old, it doesn't feel quite as solid inside and out. There is a lack of substance behind the perceived quality.

The left side wiper motor actually failed on me a few weeks ago, when I was driving across the bridge in the rain. It was not idea, and slightly embarrassing to see a Mercedes with one working wiper. The rear seat/bench has also developed a rather annoying rattle/rubbing sound when a passenger is sitting on it.

Having said that, it is still a nice car for the daily drive. The handling is responsive, the engine offers enough flexibility and performance in most situations and the overall NVH is kept under control.

The average fuel consumption is still hovering between 10l to 11l/100km, which is not bad for the type of driving I do.

Let me know if you guys have any questions, I am more than happy to answer.
