Live from Italy: MINI Superleggera Vision

BMW, for more than a decade lender of the Villa d'Este car party has gone along with a MINI in the Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring. This is what the Milanese afleverden.
Although the Briton on the chassis of a MINI is, the wheelbase increased slightly and the wheels - 20-inch whopper - positioned further outwards. Also the seat shifted slightly. An intervention that'm more 'roadster' makes.
The minimalist design of the MINI Superleggera is continuing at the back, with a fin in the middle of the boot which subtly brake light is processed. The tail lights come in the form of the Union Jack flag, a pattern also visible on the inside of the doors in the brackets. After all, British gonna Brit.

About minimalist spoken: the bare and simple interior is about me as I work in the ideal of a driver's car proposal. Above the buttonless just send a clock, where the speed being imaged and optionally the number of km / h and is displayed. That's all you need. Within your field of vision In the middle of a round (!) touchscreen , with a central navigation display and optional information - such as your lap times - on the left.
Whether this thing too serious lap times can clocks? We do not know. The electric powertrain has not yet specified by BMW. We did the first live pics from the hotel garden for you.

From the Concorso d‘Eleganza Villa d’Este, fully electric

In the thread "Posible future MINI Roadster" in august 2013 I'wrote:

This is an unique opportunity to bring to life the classic lines of the Triumph TR, or Austin Haley, but adapted to the 21st century, under the MINI brand, that would fit perfectly (because BMW also owns the three brands).
Chrome and muscular lines but with the spirit of the inventors of small roadsters, the English .....

The Automotive Manipulator Theophilus Chin has provided a realistic view of what would happen if the car was taken to production. As it stands its a Vision but it portrays the creative thinking to re-invent the MINI Roadster and Coupe from simple MINI variants to stand alone compact sports cars.

The changes added such as the A pilar and folded roof lead to how well the car would like in production, some aspects such as the MINI grille would probably be as large as the concept to give a more powerful identity.
Since the unveiling BMW are bowled over by the Concepts reaction, so expect some design elements to feature in the cars replacing the Coupe and Roadster.

I doubt it since BMW never adopted design cues from a concept not done in house.

At this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, MINI and BMW brought forward two cars that offer a glimpse into the future of design in Bavaria and Oxford. Both wearing the Vision nameplate, their aim was pretty obvious.
In case of the Brits, the MINI Superleggera Vision Conceptis a successful experiment using British DNA in conjunction with Italian flair. It’s both an evolution and a step into the future as well as a confession to the past.

Anders Warming, the Chief of the MINI Design Team, was involved from the get go in the making of this car, in collaboration with Italian coachbuilders, Superleggera, that have been around for over 80 years.

Talking about this new creation is something the Dane really likes to do and you can always see his face light up when he does. It’s rare that you such a close bond between a designer and his creation. According to the latest rumors, the Superleggera might not be only an imagination exercise but it could represent the forefather of a completely new model to soon come out from the Island.

Until then, the concept will have to do. Speaking of which, as Anders clearly puts it, the car is instantly recognizable, the front fascia borrowing elements from the current MINI models. The headlamps and hexagonal grille up front are borrowed from the regular models but that’s about it.

The bonnet has 3D stripes on it, going back towards the windshield that reveals the roadster character of the car. The aim was to create a concept that is as clean as possible and they succeeded. Inside, the dash is made up of a huge aluminum piece that was done by hand by the master crafters at Superleggera.

The dash is also wearing the futuristic instrument panel we saw on the Clubman Concept earlier this year. Even so, a piece of retro styling was kept in the shape of the analog MINI watch. Round the back, the taillights with their Union Jack motif also remind you of the British heritage, as a small detail that makes a huge difference. We talked enough about it already, we’ll let Anders do his thing from now on.

Here lies the problem for me, Roadster and Coupes are not in MINI's DNA, this doesn't even look like a MINI, what I see here is a modern interpretation of the Austin Healey Sprite or Triumph Spitfire. I think this would be the perfect car for BMW to relaunch the Triumph brand. Triumph could be sold alongside MINI's from existing MINI showrooms.

Have you seen the mini broad speed Coupe? The current MINI Coupe counts that as an influence.

MINI

Mini (stylized as MINI) is a British automotive brand founded in 1969, owned by German BMW since 2000, and used by them for a range of small cars assembled in the United Kingdom, Austria, and the Netherlands. The word Mini has been used in car model names since 1959, and in 1969 it became a brand in its own right when the name "Mini" replaced the separate "Austin Mini" and "Morris Mini" car model names.
