Official Thread MINI Superleggera Vision concept

Have you seen the mini broad speed Coupe? The current MINI Coupe counts that as an influence.

The current MINI Coupe looks nothing like the Broadspeed GT, I'd say it major styling influence was a chaves backwards cap, probably why almost nobody bought one.

None of BMW efforts match the elegance and purity of the Broadspeed GT or Ogle SX1000.

The Superleggera screams Austin Healey Sprite. It's a shame that BMW didn't retain ownership of the Austin Healey brand. So use the next best thing and revive Triumph, when I think of classic British sportscars I think MG, Triumph and Austin Healey, not MINI, never MINI, Mini had sporting models, Cooper & Clubman 1275GT but it never came as a roadster or coupé.

The Spitfire also came as the GT6 coupe, so BMW could built two models from the one concept, it makes far more sense than a MINI roadster and coupé.

Reviving a brand cost billions of dollars, that cost revive MINI and whith more than 15 years of hard work and market position, which was so successful that opened the premium compact segment.
Many brands copied their way in marketing and similar designs.
Obviously BMW bet on an established brand with great sacrifice, making it grow with new segments and models and that is MINI.
I agree that the perfect brand for a roadster is Triumph, but also a waste of time and money taking the successful Mini is a no-brainer and the superleggera fit perfectly in the Mini brand also.

I'd suggest it would be fairly easy to re-launch Triumph off the back of MINI, they would share dealers, they would have the perception of Britishness on there side, what could be more British than a new Triumph Spitfire or TR, there is still a booming second hand market for all things Triumph TR related, you can still buy almost all the parts for most models, it makes far more sense than a MINI roadster.

MINI Superleggera could see production, decision at least six months off
Company is also debating how many models they should offer
BMW Board Member Peter Schwarzenbauer has revealed the company is still considering a production version of the Superleggera concept.

Speaking to Reuters, Schwarzenbauer said the company is still evaluating the model and a decision is at least six months away. That seems like a long time but Schwarzenbauer said to "To really investigate seriously ... you look into several different options, you come to the question: do we produce it ourselves, do we give it to somebody else."

The executive also revealed the company is still trying to determine how many models they should have in their lineup. Schwarzenbauer said the leading choices are either five or ten models but he personally favors the smaller number.

Of course, MINI is already working a handful of redesigned models including the Clubman,Countryman and Cooper Convertible. They will eventually join the new Cooper and Cooper five-door hatchback.

No words, just know I want it, and wait for this for years

Looks like your wish may come true after all, despite being slightly less exotic looking in what appears to be a production trim:

I now understand why they stopped production of the Mini Roadster/coupe..

^ I hope the holes in the front bumper remain, and the LEDs to be in the grille like the concept! For the rest, this is a bit of a let-down. The concept's wide proportions are gone (or are my eyes deceiving me?), amd that full frontal shot is awkward.

Those images look to be for patent purposes. They aren't perspectives like you would normally see/experience. So they are unnatural. Just like building plans and elevations which don't represent the way you experience architecture.

Could be out in 2018
The MINI Superleggera Vision concept has made the transition to a production version thanks to a digital interpretation showing a possible look.

Ever since it was unveiled last year at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este we've been hearing rumors about a production model and MINI even patented a roadster late 2014 which was inspired by the concept. The latest gossip indicates the BMW-owned company will actually introduce it sometime in 2018 and will be very close to the concept, albeit with some modifications necessary to make it road legal.

Seen here is a very possible design of the car which will probably receive a different moniker when it will hit dealerships. Based on the aforementioned patent designs, expect the production version to come with regular door handles, bigger and more rounded side mirrors, Union Jack-inspired taillights, along with a rear spoiler, soft top and a rear fin.

If indeed approved for production, the roadster will use the same platform as the other MINIs so it will be offered in both FWD and AWD guises and it will likely spawn S and JCW derivatives.

Would cost around €35,000
A senior BMW executive has declared MINI is still analyzing the prospects of coming out with a production version of the 2014 Superleggera concept.

It seems MINI hasn't made up its mind about putting the highly appraised roadster into production because they don't know for sure where the model represents a viable business case. Peter Schwarzenbauer who is in charge of the MINI, Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad divisions describes the Superleggera as being an "economically challenging project."

He does hope the concept will eventually see the light of production day as he believes it "would be extremely good for the brand." If it will be made, the model will carry a starting price of approximately €35,000, according to a MINI insider.

When asked about the possibility of an UK exit from the European Union, Schwarzenbauer said it would be bad for both side, but BMW will continue its operations in United Kingdom even if a "Brexit" will actually happen.

Mini Superleggera looks unlikely as exec hints at new sedan

MINI Superleggera Vision concept

The Mini Superleggera concept was unveiled nearly two years ago and there have been countless rumors about a production variant. However, it appears the company is now favoring a new sedan instead.

In an interview with Automotive News, MINI boss Peter Schwarzenbauer said a production version of the Superleggera concept is still a possibility but it's hard to make a business case for the model because it would be expensive and have a relatively low volume. Schwarzenbauer went on to say "Halo cars are economically not always great. It is a trade-off: How much does it do for the brand and how do you make it feasible?"

The executive went on to suggest a sedan is more likely as he noted it has the "biggest potential, volumewise." A decision will be made later this year and the winning model will become the fifth vehicle in Mini's lineup.

Besides hinting at a new model, Schwarzenbauer confirmed plans for a plug-in hybrid variant and an electric vehicle. The plug-in hybrid is slated to arrive in the next two years, while the electric vehicle is a little further off as it's still in the planning stage and the company wants to see how far battery technology comes in the next few years.

MINI

Mini (stylized as MINI) is a British automotive brand founded in 1969, owned by German BMW since 2000, and used by them for a range of small cars assembled in the United Kingdom, Austria, and the Netherlands. The word Mini has been used in car model names since 1959, and in 1969 it became a brand in its own right when the name "Mini" replaced the separate "Austin Mini" and "Morris Mini" car model names.
