Some have changed more and better than others though...

I'll gladly buck this trend.

When I sat in the S90, the feeling I got was relaxed. The seats were supremely comfortable. The look was modern but will stand the test of time.

I agree with this, if I was going to take any of these cars on a long distance road trip it would be the Volvo, I still haven't owned a better car for long distance relaxed driving than the V70 we had.

The Press loves the E-class interior..
I can honestly say the interior of the E class is over hyped by the press, there are numerous areas of cost cutting that are not mentioned by these journalists. Things like exposed screw holes behind the interior door panel grab, that pathetic and poorly cut out piece of fabric lining that only covers the bottom of the center glove box area, large amount of plastic trim covering the door jam area..etc. It is a noticeable downgrade from the W211 and W212.

That is some very honest feedback from an owner of a w211 and w213, that is some very honest feedback and unfortunately I would have to agree. MB have pulled an Audi B8 and have everyone fooled by impressive design.

I would likely currently pick the BMW interior but won’t vote until I see the Audi in person. But I suspect the Audi will not age well at all. It already looks quite inelegant IMO.

I am just going to leave this photo here.

The reality is, everyone's cutting corners when it comes to interior trim, finishing and material quality. It's all about cost management and to where these costs are distributed to in an interior. No car maker is exempt from this practice and it's a careful balancing act; too much of an emphasis in one area can only lead to a concession in another. Something's gotta give somewhere.

Yes, I would have to agree.. My 2015 W222 S550 creaks and groans like an old ship. I feel that my old W221 was better built.

Nice 1997 KIA

I am very impressed with the interior quality of the 5er. Hardly any cost cutting, and in interior on par with the E39 gen in in terms of quality. And that's saying quite a bit these days....

MB have pulled an Audi B8 and have everyone fooled by impressive design.

Not everyone :D
The W205 C class is another nice example. Very nice to look at in pics and through the window, but not so much when you actually sit in it. Cheap materials galore.

Honestly if it wasn't for the nappa seats on our W213, the interior quality would have felt no better than the W205.

that pathetic and poorly cut out piece of fabric lining that only covers the bottom of the center glove box area

I suspect it's just poorly designed, it's likely cut exactly to spec...

... just saying. And yes, I might have cut interior trim pieces for popular OEMs before :ROFLMAO:

In terms of beauty, E class interior is the winner of the pool, lines are flowing nice and most people and car magazines totally hooked by the tablets and blue lights.
MB is aware of that and throw in cheap plastics, random hols, unpadded trunk ceiling and glove box o_O

Build quality is the lowest among the three.
