M-Class (W166/C292) Mercedes ML-Class SUV – W166 (Spy pics & info)

The Mercedes-Benz W166 is the third generation M-Class ("ML") range of mid-size luxury SUVs. Facelifted versions renamed to GLE and GLE Coupé. Model codes: W166 (SUV), C292 (SUV coupé). Production: July 2011–2019. Model years: 2012–2019.
Yeah, but most of these SUV's are used for 5 people anyway. I think BMW has got the X5's size right. People who drive these things WANT to be noticed, and they want something big. The M-class is a bit too small.

If MB has shrunk the ML, then they've made a serous mistake, and I question the market research folks at MB. EVERY mid-sized SUV has grown. MB is already inferior in back seat space to the X5, RX, and just about every other mid-sized luxury SUV. mid sized SUV is all about back seat and good cargo space. IN the last ML you couldn't even get a set of golf clubs in the cargo area without angling them in.
The pics don't look smaller too me, in fact in some pics it does look larger. We'll see.

No question the exterior looks much more fluid than the last.

It´s just the cammo. People claimmed the very same with the Cayenne and you see, it´s grown in size compared with the first gen.

If you want a 3rd row seat, get an R.
It will need to become longer for a proper 3rd row seat.

Well that's why the GL exists, I suppose. But if I REALLY wanted a huge 3rd seat with a comfy ride, I could get the Escalade ESV. LOL

Woooohaaa :D :t-cheers:

The whole shape is looking rather odd. In some ways it looks boxy and some round. You can tell it will get CLS styled rear lights though.

This the GL and the nex R Class are what i hope MB do a great job because i know i will most probably buy one of them and my family a 7 seater. For me it will be the new ML OR CAYENNE.

I really liked the interior shots lets hope the outside is also good and i hope bigger then the curent Ml and also more aggresive looking

After watching the new Jeep Grand Cherokee's commercial (which I love by the way, but someone needs to tell them it's German underneath :D), I decided to watch a couple reviews on it since I really like it. And then it hit me. The interior looks familiar, and I'm only talking about the dash layout only. I know it shares the underpinnings of the W164, mostly because it was a done deal before they split. They can have the old gear shifter, and instrument cluster, but for it to look remotely like the new, unreleased ML, is just too much.

What do you guys think?

So am I hallucinating or is Diamler sharing a little more than keys with Chrysler after the divorce?

Seems very evolutionary to me. Overall shape and proportions seem identical to the current one, via these pics.

Never been a big ML fan. The fact that it's built in the U.S makes it almost a half-assed M-B to me.

So wait....the new Jeep is based on the current ML??
If so, it has the be the best Jeep ever made in history :D

Yes it is, platform sharing decided before the split while the project was already on route. So it is, just like the Chrysler 300C and Dodge Charger are the best of their respective brands, indeed the best Jeep ever!:D

Looks very nice BTW. And compared to the appalling build quality of the current one, it won't be difficult to top it...

It certainly does look like a very very fine Jeep.

That ML interior does nothing for me. It's got neither the class of a Range Rover, sportiness of a BMW, detail of an Audi or teutonic solidity of the latest Benz interiors. That it looks like Jeep has been copying MB's homework only makes matters worse.

I'm in agreement with KA and with what Merc1 has often expressed. The ML does always seem like a product compromised in its design and execution by the fact it's built in the US.

I posted a quick comparo a few days ago with some of this pics, Wolfgang. They´ve added the final front and rear lights, so in one or two months we should be seeing the very first FEP cars out there.
