M-Class (W166/C292) Mercedes ML-Class SUV – W166 (Spy pics & info)

The Mercedes-Benz W166 is the third generation M-Class ("ML") range of mid-size luxury SUVs. Facelifted versions renamed to GLE and GLE Coupé. Model codes: W166 (SUV), C292 (SUV coupé). Production: July 2011–2019. Model years: 2012–2019.
Yeah, I tried to strip it down, remove the camo and fill in the blanks but I'm not really digging the end result. I still have hope for the real thing though. :D

That's probably about as close as you can get. There are obviously some contours on the hood that were not included in this rendering.
MB? Still the electric razor grille? Move on. Incorportate the GL and GLK look on the grille, please.

I suspect a much more car like, lower ride height. Looks like MB will move the next ML to compete more with the volume leader Lexus, as opposed to the X5. Sad if you ask me. Because MB will never offer the agressive leasing necessary to compete with the Lexus RX for its sales volume. So why not build the most German performance, butt kicking SUV, instead of a milk-toast soccer mom car?

If the next ML turn out like this, then IMO it will be one of the most beautiful looking SUV Mercedes has ever built! Sadly, we know that it won't take the CLS headlight's shape, which is good, instead the evolution of current shape which is boring!

ENOUGH WITH THE DAMN CORPORATE REARVIEW MIRRORS ON EVERY DAMN CAR M-B!!!!

They look good only on the new E-Class, as they were obviously designed with that car in mind, with the flung out, angular look. They look off on every other model, and the over-use of them just looks funny. I understand cost-savings but sheesh.

Wow thats sleek.. would be surprised if it looked that good:)

Give them time. I am sure you will not be disappointed. I have a 2009 ML350 and a 2010 GL350 Bluetec. The M class is a tad small for a family of five but I love it and I know Germany has much more in store for the 166. My GL is for the family and yeah it lacks the get up and go but it get awesome fuel mileage. We are getting around 23 miles per gallon in the city in it. I, personally cant wait for the 166. Everyone at the plant is buzzing about it. We have not even seen it yet but by the camo pics I think it will be awesome.

It´s been a while since the last time I visited this thread. I see so pesimism with this new ML, I can´t stand why at all, as the pics I´m seeing are very much what I was expecting. A revised rear end with horizontal tail lights (the surprise is that they wrapp around the side profile like the "old" benzes, like the W220), a evolutionary front end, new lines in the side profile, in the way of the latest Mb creations (this is: dorr handles above the shoulder line). And a vastly improoved interior, with the new COMMAND and so on.

M-Class will have smaller appearance [exterior]

The next-generation Mercedes-Benz M-Class rages in the terrain of BMW X5 and Audi Q7, while the off-roader takes on softer forms and should significantly contribute a more car-like appearance than before. The wheel arches disappear, so that the Mercedes with a sympathetic-round form is not likely to be called an outdated SUV in XXL format [in Europe]. Again, the new V6 and V8 engines are used, with the 500 CGI having 435 HP and a maximum torque of 700 Newton meters.

Besides stronger V6 diesel engines are available for the next Mercedes M-class, and a third row of seats and room for up to seven people [Good!]. A new active suspension ensures dynamic driving momentum, the optional off-road package for good progress in difficult terrain - and a new diesel hybrid for low consumption [questionable if the diesel-hybrid makes it to the USA, unless MB SUV diesels become more popular]. Clearly, for the launch in the summer of 2011, all assistance systems from C-, E- and S-Class are on board.

This does not sound promising for markets outside of Europe where the ML is already a bit feminine and small next to the X5 and the like.

There are a lot of large, masculine SUVs available already from MB, eg. G, GL, GLK, Unimog, Zetros, and to some extent the Jeep Grand Cherokee etc etc.

The ML design chief explained this part of the character thusly:

"With the M-Class, unveiled in early 1997, our aim was to combine the character of an elegant station wagon with the sportiness of an off-road vehicle. We were able to integrate into it the classic features of a sport utility vehicle - for example the large ground clearance, the large wheels and wheel arches, the raised seating position. We also alluded to the typical two-part silhouette. Overall, however, the lines of the M-Class are dynamic, elegant and deliberately skewed towards a sedan-type design. The aim amongst other things was to draw on traditional Mercedes elegance rather than creating 'modish' appeal with only a short life span." - Bruno Sacco

2012 Mercedes ML 63 AMG spied getting tipsy at Nurburgring

2012 Mercedes ML-Class AMG spy photos, Nurburgring Nordschleife

By Zack Newmark | WorldCarFans

Spies in Germany caught several pics of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG. The car was seen during testing on the Nurburgring, really hitting the curves hard on what the spy describes as a "soft suspension."

If it gets the AMG Performance Package for the 5.5-liter biturbo V8 engine from the S63 AMG, it should pump out 563 hp (420 kW, 571 PS) and up to 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque. This engine would likely be mated to the automaker's seven-speed Speedshift MCT transmission.

Larger brake calipers and discs can be seen behind the testing wheels. The car is also fitted with a dual exhaust, with a tail pipe on either side of the vehicle, and vents on the hood.

The low-to-the-ground model should get its production debut in 2011 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
