Never Mercedes was so bright in the past

This was an expected development. As I've written before, there has been no innovation for Mercedes in the last 10 years. All models had extremely conservative designs, and Gordon should have left a long time ago. Especially with the effect of declining sales, it seems that Mercedes management decided to let him go. Frankly, I couldn't see anything new in any of his recent designs.

Great designer as well. May be after him. Sorry.
Nowadays most of cars designs are coming from mangas stories I would say. Wagener comes with different ideas, controversial maybe, but differents. I have son book icon design I can say he’s special with plenty of new ideas, and with a great team. I am convinced the next gen S class will be his best design. His heritage will stay for nearly a decade.

His greatest hits for me include the W222 and C217 S-Classes as well as the AMG GT. While I agree Mercedes design has hit a brick wall of repetitiveness and predictability, the core cars still look far better than the contemporary competition, IMO.

Guys, I don't know, surfing the internet you can read a lot of news about the new design chief, always coming from the internal department of Mercedes AMG, and not externally. I wouldn't want him to follow the footsteps traced in recent times by Wagener.....but it will be like this, as he himself declared.

I doubt they could get Heyl to move from Bugatti.. once you reach the pinnacle why move? He’s less constraint by price of vehicle/production and doesn’t have to appease committees after committees, seems to be a more freeing experience than designing the next GLC Coupe or CLA.

He looks like relatively new blood in Mercedes as he joined them in 2010.

He certainly has potential to design striking cars, he was the lead exterior designer of the AMG Vision Gran Turismo.

He looks like he has in his hand a design for a large grill Mercedes saloon. This picture was from an interview article in 2022 of him.

The next S class design has already gone through customer clinics so one would think the base design was overseen by Wagener.

I think he means what is designed out for 10 years won't be completed manufacturing for 15 years.
