I was on the CarSized site and came across the new CLA. It’s crazy how cars are getting bigger and bigger. It’s almost the same size as a C-Class. It’s also taller and wider than the C as well. There’s only 20mm length difference.
There’s also a comparison between the previous and current generation CLA.
I assume in about 10 years the ‘compact’ segment will start from 5 meters in length 🤣.

Yeah safety and crash structures has made all cars a lot bigger. Double edged....sword? Shield? Something like that.

That's just a lazy excuse. Mazda makes the MX-5 the same size and weight as from 35 years ago. Lucid makes the Air which is the size of a SWB E38 but competes with modern S Class/7er in terms of interior space.

Both of these companies were targeting efficient use of space and compact packaging, and they actually tried as much as they could to get it done, so they were able to achieve it. Most companies don't give a f#ck (cause most customers are braindead and don't care either) so they have no reason to do so.

That might be true, but you're not going to get compact cars like the original 500 and Mini any more.

I would also like to say that the Lucid Air, with it's huge interior volume looks very blobby with no defined 3-box design, which is the bare minimum expectation for a Mercedes after the EQE/S disasters.
