Hot! Mercedes-Benz, What's Next?

Quite attractive imho. Audi green house doesn’t look as good as the original would but, well…

Looks good. I hope the bumper is different that the one on the GLC, since the headlights and grille are already the same.

That is an excellent render and looks really quite realistic. If they have a C-Class looking close to this but with some slight alterations to give it some unique signatures then it will be a very attractive looking saloon.

A rendering well done and an "interesting" proposition.

The quality of the work is well done, but not the accuracy. Proportions of the render are quite off, the wheels and arches too big when compared to the real prototype. Suffers from the same "Hot wheels" large wheel issue Autocar's renders suffer from. Just a tad too large the wheels here.

The rear logo is inline with the lights, not above them like in the render, this is pretty clear on the test cars. Same for the license, much lower.

The side skirt will not be body colored, but black with trim on it. The grill design is also different to the GLC EV, revealed by the teaser. 4 horizontal slats, not 3 like GLC. If you ask me the C ev grill seems a bit too large. I am aware the older cars from the 50s, and 60s, and early 70s had big tall grills (W108 ex). so it makes sense where Mercedes got their ideas/inspiration from.

The glasshouse on the render seems off as well, definitely needs to be a bit taller like in the prototypes to give proper proportions., other wise it feels like a lowered coupe SUV design. The D pillar trim needs more of a tighter curve than what is in the render., as seen in the teaser.

But it is a good effort, probably will be better than whatever abomination Avarvarii or Kolesa release.

Mercedes-AMG Wants Its Future Cars to Pass the 'Batman Test'

Execs say coming AMGs will be edgier, segment-leading, and more "kickass" than ever.

We are Batman, we are not Superman because Superman is a little bit like the nice son-in-law,” says Michael Schiebe, the board member for Mercedes-AMG who is working to make the luxury brand distinct from Mercedes in addition to being a leader among performance brands.

“Batman is the one who is too dangerous for your daughter,” says Schiebe. “We want to be the dangerous son-in-law,” he says, a little rough, not perfect. Batman has become the measuring stick during strategy sessions with the product team every Monday. “When new product is being planned, we ask ‘is this Batman enough?’”

AMG customers don’t want to buy a Mercedes, Schiebe says. An AMG must be more aggressive and look more high performance. AMG was successful when it was edgy. The plan is to do it again, but on steroids, with killer design and segment-beating performance.

The brand has an onslaught of new models coming in the next three years. “We have never launched so many products in the history of AMG,” says Schiebe. He wants to sell 200,000 AMGs a year. To do so, each model needs to be better than the competition. Some of that is more horsepower with combustion engines as more markets will rely on them for years to come. Mercedes will launch a new family of V-8 engines next year that are more powerful as well as efficient to meet global emissions requirements.

AMG also sees growing demand for high-performance EVs, for the drive experience as well as regulations. Some cities only allow EVs in their city core, so AMG needs to offer an alternative.

Breaking Records, Creating Expectations
The 1,340-hp Mercedes-AMG GT XX concept recently went to the Nardo Ring in Italy where it smashed 25 EV records, driving the equivalent of a lap around the Earth’s equator.

Taking the electric concept around the world in less than eight days at Nardo wasn't just a publicity stunt, it was a test of AMG technology which will go into production in the road-going model “sooner than you think,” said Mercedes-Benz chairman and CEO Ola Källenius. We will see the production version of the four-door super sedan next year and it will be kickass, he says. The production car looks even better than the concept and “has the heart of an AMG.”

It will be the first model built on the new AMG.EA architecture and its prowess shows AMG is on the right path, says Schiebe. It showcases the tech coming, signals that future products can beat the competition on the track, and is a morale booster for the team.

High-Tech AMG SUV Coming
The same tri-motor powertrain, with axial-flux motors, will also go into a high-performance electric SUV that is already undergoing testing. We will see the SUV and get more details next year, Schiebe tells us. Its launch will be less than a year after the GT since the basic work and underpinnings are shared and therefore will be done.

The axial flux motors were developed for the AMG.EA electric vehicle platform by British-based Mercedes-Benz subsidiary Yasa Ltd. But the automaker will want to scale up production of the motors, which means spreading it to the Mercedes brand. We should see this in the near term, says Chief Technology Officer Markus Schäfer.

"The grille was a detail added late in the program. It was Easter, Wagner was glamping in the Grand Canyon at 6,000 feet of altitude in the middle of nowhere, surprisingly within cell phone range. It was five in the morning, and it was zero degrees outside, when Mercedes-Benz Chairman and CEO Ola Källenius called him from China. They discussed what Mercedes stands for and a rebirth of an iconic piece from the past. From the engineering side, it meant pushing back the start of production because it required more time and money. But it was worth it, says the designer."

While I can appreciate some of what Gorden Wagener has expressed, I do have some reservations.

Number 1.) We shall see (regarding the "modifications" of the front shield) if the effort "was worth it". The "neo-retro" radiator shield has not been met with undivided applause and we have yet to see how the response to it will be by potential buyers/leasers.

Number 2.) With all due respect to good old human mindpower intelligence, many decisions taken are not so intelligent after all. Especially in corporate environments in which design endeavours are often diluted, if not absolutely butchered, by obstructive, meddlesome, dilettantic managers that have far more knowledge of the shape of the beans that they count or the buttocks of likewise dilettantic directors that they bury their heads into than automotive design.

I wonder if, given the importance MB seems to be giving to this new grille, if they will not redesign the AMG EV front end to sort of have it’s own version of it.

@Serpens do you know if this is the case?

Two different spy pics of new upcoming GLS I came across today and both have different type of headlights. First seems to be close to reality as the trst cars which I saw in Dubai is last May had such a star DRL treatment

AMG isn't getting a shield grille equivalent, but their AMG-specific models are becoming increasingly divergent from the mainstream AMG models.

Great, as long as the most expensive looking AMG models do not look like the cheapest MB models (front light bar between the lights, fake grille with lots of tiny stars…).

We were going to get the same shit front end as with the CLA…

What is the most significant part is that MB seemingly has no grand scheme. No all-encompassing design language, but is still using duct tape to put a design together.

An entire new grille on a seemingly done car shows a lack of trust in what you create as a designer.
Very surprised he told us that about that new grille. I would have kept it a secret.

Whew. A mess. Hopefully the models coming in 2027 and beyond have a clear, cohesive design from the start.
