Hot! Mercedes-Benz, What's Next?

Precisely my sentiments as well. NO MOPF is going to administer that proverbial booster shot to unit sales. The sooner the current EQ vehicles, sedans and SUVs alike, are retired the better. They are "failed effort vehicles".
I think the FL EQS saloon will also probably be a failed attempt and will only be on the market for 2 to 3 years before the S-class EV will be launched. Hopefully the E-class EV launched in 2027 will be a saving grace for Mercedes in the executive class and will improve their EV sales.

The EQS facelift will share the engine and technical innovations of the CLA along with the 800V architecture.

Changing more would require retooling all the sheet metal manufacturing pipelines. It's too much work and investment for a facelift of an unpopular car that is likely to be discontinued soon.
Better to spend more energy and money on newer models (e.g GLE and GLS EV based on MB.EA-L).
I agree. On the other hand it's a weird decision to update the engines, battery, etc. to 800V (and spend huge amounts of funding) but keep the ugly exterior. There is zero chance that this model will sell well after the MOPF, so why invest anything at all?

Technically the EQS is still up to the mark, it has 800km of range which is still amongst the best on the market, but its let down terribly by its exterior design. As I discovered when doing my survey questions of the Mercedes EQ styling, most people I questioned didnt like the styling of the EQ models.

I sat in an EQE taxi recently. And honestly, frumpy looks aside and cheapness in the interior aside, it was a pretty comfy ride through the tortured, crater-ridden streets of London. That despite it's insane weight.

I only hope that MB.EA-M, MB.EA-L and AMG.EA borrow some of the fancy weight saving tech from the EQXX to keep the weight down to sane levels.

The funding for the drivetrain is shared across many vehicles. Redoing the tooling for a model's exterior is not.

Yes. It's like putting an updated/revised engine in an ICE car. The bodywork can stay the same, but you can just plonk a new motor in much more easily. Especially as that new engine is probably going to usage across a range of applications.

The tooling for drivetrains is different to the tooling for bodywork. The former can change much more easily as powertrain technology is shared across multiple (in some cases, all) vehicles across a product range. Whereas, bodywork is applicable only to a single model. So it's not worth redoing it for a badly selling car.

The drivetrain for EVA2 is specific though. As far as I know there are no common parts with other verhicles. In the ICE world MB managed to use the engines across the whole car line up much better.

MB.EAM and MMA should have a different generation of batteries/engines, so the EVA2 funding appears not to be well spent.

The current drivetrain, yes.

The EVA2 facelift is getting critical drivetrain elements from the MMA platform which will also be coming on MB.EA. The eATS 2.0 in-house electric motors, 800v architecture, and Gen V battery tech are all shared/will be shared across several different Mercedes EVs.

It is astonishing how many new M-B/AMG BEV prototypes are being captured on film lately. The AMG GT 4 door, the electric AMG SUV, the electric C-Class sedan, the V-Class van/MPV, the AMG CLA... If anything, these certainly pique interest and are an effective promotion tool. Personally, I wouldn't be at all surprised should we see first images of the electric E-Class sedan, an electric C-Class estate and perhaps more by the end of this year.

Already looking visually far more attractive than the MMA CLA, IMHO.

The GLC will look better for sure. I guess I don’t get the point of both an EV CLA and C_Class? The premium you’re paying for the C is for what exactly?

As far as I've understood, the MB.EA C-Class sedan will be a larger automobile, some 100-to-150mm longer as well as considerably wider. Interior appointments a "bit more premium" as well. Recent video footage (posted here about one week ago) of the electric C-Class sedan being shadowed by a CLA shooting brake appears to confirm this.

That's a very low bar though.
This EV C class looks puffy, but I hope that's just the camo fooling us. I truly hope this will be outstanding on all fronts.

At least M-B designers appear to have considerably diminished that dreaded "tricycle effect" that makes the MMA CLA appear so "chubby".

Wouldn’t it be cheaper and more logical to create bodies that can support both ICE and EV rather than creating a completely different shape for the EQ models ?
Even though the spy shots suggest a much better design compared to the previous EQ models, I think they still look a bit puffy, and egg-like. Especially the electric C. Hopefully it’s the camo fooling our eyes.
SUV looks totally fine though. Finally something decent looking after these horrible
things
