Lol maybe tomorrow they will bring out a new 2017 forecast and delete GT C coupe

@Wolfgang Any idea what the GT-C Coupe is ??

As I understood the GT-C was going to be the AMG GT Roadster ? but obviously there is a coupe as well ?? Is it just a less powered version ??

OK - Just took the time to read what you'd already discussed :-/ Sorry.

Car and Driver writes it might be a new entry-level GT, lukeswiss? :)

Over at Mercedes-AMG, a new AMG GT C roadster will debut close to the on-sale date of the AMG GT R. An AMG GT C coupe will follow a year or more later, after the E-class convertible. Given how Mercedes has renamed many of its cars, with the last “C” designating that segment’s entry-level model (as with the SLC roadster and the GLC SUV), the GT C could be a cheaper, decontented, and restyled variant positioned below the base GT and the pricier GT S.

^ Agree, Sky. Here's the latest from GT Spirit. :)

Mercedes-AMG R50 Hypercar Coming Next Year, $2 Million+ Price Tag

According to new stories Mercedes-AMG is working on a record-breaking street-legal hypercar. Dubbed the Mercedes-AMG R50 by German magazine Autobild it is set to be released in time for AMG’s 50th Anniversary next year.

Details are still scarce but with the new R50 AMG should move into hypercar territory. It should come with two electric motors producing 150hp each powering the front wheels and a mid-mounted 1,000hp 2.0 liter four cylinder turbo engine. This would bring the combined total to a mindblowing 1,300hp. AMG is aiming to keep the weight of the R50 at or below 1,300 kilograms. In efforts to do so the two-seater monocoque is made from carbon fibre.

Additional technical innovations include rear wheel steering (recently introduced on the AMG GT-R) and adaptive suspension that can control each wheel individually. The R50’s design is inspired by Le Mans racers and might reflect on the legendary CLK GTR. Also in terms of cockpit and driver position the comparison to the CLK GTR should not be far fetched. The seating position is as low as it can go. Pedals and steering wheel can be adjusted to accommodate drivers of various sizes.

To reduce drag and optimize aerodynamics the cockpit is quite narrow so the driver and passenger seats are near together. Large wheels and a carbon fibre wing wrap up the aerodynamic appearance that should be a competitor for the new Aston Martin RB 001 and next generation hypercars like the Bugatti Chiron.

Thanks to technical know-how from Mercedes-Benz the upcoming AMG hypercar should also be among the safest of its kind. Several assistance systems aid the driver where possible to improve safety and lap times alike.

A price tag of between 2 and 3 million Euro for the limited edition R50 AMG hypercar is likely.

PS. Suspect these folks may have something to do with it? :)

Matthias Schenker
Mercedes-Benz Autobahnkurier

This project sets out to explore the future of high-speed luxury coupes, yet takes its inspiration from the past - more specifically, the Mercedes-Benz 540K Autobahnkurier that was designed to take advantage of the newly-built Autobahns in Germany in the 1930s. The updated car drives between the world's megacities at speeds of up to 300kmh on next-generation highways and is powered by four electric motors. While the technology is futuristic, the design follows its '30s predecessor, with simple surfaces and aero forms inspired by the aviation industry.

A 2.0ltr 4-cylinder with 1000PS will be very unlikely to make production, it will have to be a high revving unit with very high turbo boost pressure and also most probably will not be reliable due to high internal pressures very close to a F1 engine requiring high grade materials, such as titanium conrods and pistons. A 500hp engine sounds more likely with additional high powered electric motors on front wheels (400hp or 200hp x 2) as well either a 400hp motor attached to the engine or 400hp (200hp x 2) electric motors on the back wheels.

^ Yes, while the Autobild article indeed claims 150 PS for each motor on the front axle and a 1000 PS two liter four cylinder, those numbers may not be set in stone. For example, the motors for the SLS E-Cell were also intitially claimed to produce around 131 PS, but then were speced with 188 PS in the final version. :)

BMW made more than 1000hp with a 1,5 liter four pot and they took the engine-block from the 2002 turbo. I'm not sure about the 1000 hp, but they can do it if they want to though.

Yes, but that BMW F1 engine produced that much only in qualifying spec and for 2 laps only.

Let's see what those chaps at Brixworth can do. There were all these talks about >50% thermal efficiency with their new internal combustion engine. Maybe they have achieved it with this little gem of an engine.

That sounds strange.
AMG GTC (base)
AMG GT (middle)
AMG GTS (second from the top)
AMG GTR(top)

Unless they've decided to bring a new base model because they haven't actually sold as many cars as they expected .....

Either way, interesting times. Including the naming strategy ....

First of all, I can't wait for the final specs for this and the Aston to be released. Second, @Wolfgang, do you know if this could potentially be less than 1300kg?

I think you guys are really setting yourselves up for a big let down. I just can't see MB doing this right now or at all, but who knows. What real proof do we have so such a car?

M

^ Perhaps. Tobias Moers may have dropped some hints recently? :)

TM: But where’s the tech transfer from SLS Electric Drive to, say, an E63 Electric Drive?

TM: [laughs again] No, but I’ll take that idea home with me! That’s a good proposal. We got a lot of experience with the SLS project, so it’d be stupid to throw what we learned away.

But the SLS was a state of the art, ‘what is possible’ car, with four motors, torque vectoring, blah blah blah. It was unbelievably expensive, and not supposed to be for the mass market.

We’re looking what we can use – and adding new ideas – for what we can do with electricity in the future. There is a development programme happening within AMG. I believe more in electrification that I do in performance diesels.

Thank you buddy Wolfgang. It's really exciting to see the inspiration from one of the outstanding automobiles yet, 540K. If Merc AMG is planning to make a hyper car, then its should also be out of crowd in terms of design as well. These concept can really help

The GT C could also be the high performance model, lukeswiss, with the GT R powertrain? :)

In the meantime, development of the GT continues. In addition to the GT R model exclusively revealed by Autocar (16 March), AMG will unveil the roadster version later this year for an on-sale date in spring 2017.

Moers said there would be “a different variant” of the roadster, additional to the standard and S versions. This car is believed to be a high performance model using the 570bhp powertrain from the GT R, but tuned more for fast road use than track work. Source: Autocar
