Hot! Mercedes-Benz, What's Next?

Latest news, trending discussions, reviews, and major updates
I see there the same problem other manufacturers like Audi are facing. MB’s identity is strongly related to the front grille, with the three pointed star on it. EV cars make grille non-relevant. So faking the grille as it was still functional looks cheap.

I would mimic what Cadillac has done with its latest concept, it looks much better:

...or a solution similar to that displayed on the AMG PureSPEED concept:

See? I believe this SL has no MB DNA at all based on this picture. Remove the star and it could be any car.

What would I do? Just leave the grille shape in the front, but making it part of the body of the car, not a functional grille. Probably similar to the pre-FL Model 3. And then stick the three-pointed star and a chrome bar across it.

Probably not perfect, but I think it would look better than this or the AMG concept with that silly fake panamericana grille.

There is a bit of a history regarding Mercedes-Benz cars without the signature radiator grill:

The new MMA CLA may turn out to be quite the looker after all. Some German manufacturers have done worse after all.

You did this with the Audi's. Don't get our hopes up. Lol

It already looks worse than the current CLA, but to be fair the current one is a looker!

Yeah, you may have a point there. My expectations for the A6 etron were high following the presentation of the 2021 concept car. But wow...the serial production version is visually a...BUMMER.

Subjective. Maybe I am a bit more forgiving as the MMA cars will be "entry luxury" offerings. And I really like the Vision CLA concept. But then again...see my Audi A6 etron comment.

Whether they are true entry luxury offerings will be determined by the mix of style, quality, luxury and technology. I fear the interior is going to be a beautiful but short on build and quality of finish. I also suspect the overall shape will be a disappointment.

Trying to replicate the prettiness of rear of the current CLA with its diistinct, delicate yet sporty rear lights and graceful glasshouse and tail end is an admirable goal.

We are going to get a bloated version of the current car with super bling logo inspired headlights and tail lights. Whether it is a true Mercedes will be determined by the build and finish of the interior. But I have no doubt they are going to bring it to the party in terms of UI technology and possibly a massive step forward for Mercedes EV technology too.

This is the interior shot for the next Smart #5. I think it looks good, but will its technology stack up well against the Chinese car brands for the same price or cheaper?

Ola needs to go, he has no vision to push Mercedes EV drive forward, the way they are going Mercedes will have almost no market share in China in the next 5 years unless they make all their vehicles sold in China either full BEV or PHEV with huge ranges.

Guess why the S-class has dropped in sales so much this year? Its because the Chinese market where its biggest S-class and Maybach market is, is not interested to buy ICE cars.

Mercedes has to make all S-class models sold in China only as PHEV with well a larger range of 150km or the S-class will be dead within a few years.

F'ing tragic. Old design proportions. FWD-like platform. No fresh BEV-ness.
For the love of all things holy, can someone FIRE GORDON WAGENER?!?!?!?

You did this with the Audi's.

JIMMY keeps doing this non stop all the time. For every Audi and every MB. Learn to live with it or put him on ignore, it will not change..

The current one belongs between Kias and Ford Focus models on a Hertz parking lot.

IMHO, a major problem is the politization of the BEV versus ICE issue. The hype surrounding it has led to a fanatically polarized ideological entrenchment that is obstructive to a pragmatic application of processes that lead to progress and innovation. This estranges and confuses consumers. The politics of corporate governance are far too often dictated by shortsighted emphasis on capital gains rather than sustainable solutions in big picture scenarios. Elected politicans simply lack the expertise in order to pragmatically address such issues. Their "expert commissions" are usually products of partisan buddy systems. There are arguments that dismiss technocracy as well as those that support it. Say what one will, the the quasi-technocratic processes that have been employed in China have long benefitted its ascendency as a first tier economic powerhouse. Expertise that promotes big picture innovation and sustainability. Something that become an alien concept in Europe.
