Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG Review

I wouldn`t even bother comparing the S65 AMG to anything else but the Bently Flying Spur and even it doesn`t compete with the King of the Streets.

I'm a big fan of the S65, but with so much more HP than
the S8 and 760 I can't give them but so much credit.
If BMW or Audi were to put 600 plus under the hood something tells me we wouldn't be raving about the
S65! None the less until then S65 is the king in a straight
line.

I agree which brings to show how childlish we act on this forum.
S65 is only awesome and stands out for most of us because of the imense power figure.
But even with all this power all u can do is 250 which makes this 600hp benchmark rather wasteful and meaningless
Its all about versatility and the M5 is the superior sedan.
What difference whould it make to us really if this had only 400-500hp.

lOl, I`ve said it before.. If BMW or Audi introduced something of the likes MB would just leap frog it.. MB has always been the HP champions of the German makes. It`s been this way more than 50 years and it`s not going to change anytime soon.

I think it`s good to know MB has improved the overall dynamics of the W221 S65 compared to the outgoing model.

i see it like this..and i dont expekt anyone else to share my view..

there are 3 sedans that rule.. RS4 M5 S65
S65 beats them in
Comfort
Space
Luxury
Exclusivity
Power
Straight Line Speed
and probably a bunch more

The others have
Price and agility going for them..
thats only 2 things.. so as a complete car the S65 rules all sedans imo
by the way in those 2 points mentioned above the RS4 wins..so what does the M5 really have on this competition

PS
But have in mind..i would still pic the M5 after the S65 as i love larger cars
Hmmm.. Sorry, it's going a bit off topic... Here goes anyway:
Well, I agree on you with the most of the things that you listed about S 65 compared to RS4 and S 65. But for example more power doesn't make the S 65 better than RS4 or M5. It's more about the power/weight relation and the fact that a smaller/lighter car doesn't need so much power as a big/heavier car. Also it's a bit funny that you mention only two things where the RS4 and M5 are better and then you claim that those are the only things where they are better.:t-rot:Driving dynamics for example can be divided into several smaller segments.
And your question about the M5, if you look at it as whole, it does seem like M5 is the perfect compromise between the two other. It has more space than RS4 but isn't so big and heavy that it would compromise on the driving dynamics. It has more than enough power and enough place unless you're a sumo wrestler. It might not be exactly as comfortable as its competitors (E 63 & S6) but when its handling is the standard in the class and it turns into almost a sports car with a push of a button, you know it's close to perfect as a sedan. And like Tiff of Fifth Gear says in the E60 M5 test: "we're about to test one of the greatest cars in the world".

as i said the M5 is by far my fav recent bimmer..
i love it.. its gr8..
but like you said you can devide driving dynamics into smaller segments..i can devide about everything i said about the S65 into smaller segments..
driving dynamics where included in agility .. from my point of view..

still the fact remains all three sedans are killer..you cant go wrong with any of them.. but imo (and many others) the S65 rules them.. beacuse of many pros rather than a few for the other cars..

but ofcourse you will see ppl that dont give a crap about the pros than ive listed for the S65.. so its really from person to person as with everything else..:D

You know what, why doesn't Mercedes just put a fighter jet
engine in all their car's so all the benz fans can say, "are car is better than your's, it has 10,000HP, now what!":D

But your rite, it makes sense to put 100 or more HP's under the hood if you can't win no other way!:t-hands:

I don't think so. You can come up with a better sedan?

first off all Mercedes benz s 65 amg is my favorite mb so thats that
but it do think that you are not right because the s65 is more like a limosine
than a saloon esspecially the l version so im my its not a saloon

and in my eyes, it is the m5 but it will not take away that i do like the s65
and why id take the m5 because i love this car longer than the s65 excist :D

'lol hopefully in your life time you will see a 10Khp AMG..haha:D

and cant win no other way??..haha
MB´s motorsport heritage and cars like the CLK DTM and CLK GTR tells another story..and now im just talking performance department..we do not need to walk into other segments of the industry..

Sorry Artist I'm not a fan of motorsports, nor does it matter
in regards to this topic "S65 AMG Review", however the S65 has over 600HP and runs 4.4sec 0 to 60. The S8 with 150HP less runs 0 to 60 in 4.7sec. If that's something to
be proud of than :eusa_clap .

In regards to the CLK DTM & CLK GTR well ya got me
thier, don't know much about those vehicles thier not
sold state side, but I thought we were talking about
the S65? But since you mentioned it don't those car's
have between 500 & 600HP?:t-hands: What vehicles are in
it's class? How much HP do they have? How much does it cost? Are they compared to cars with equal power output?
I'd love to discuss those cars once I have these questions
answered:)

Well your right, the S65 is a lot more car than the M5...but its a 180k$ vs. 81k$ thats a huge difference that you cant just look over. Ok, Mercedes wins in a strait line. Whats new here? Mercedes has always put huge powerful engines in all of their cars. The S65 is a luxury cruiser, and a damn good one but comparing it to the RS4 and the M5 doesnt make much sence. THe S65 wouldnt stand a chance keeping up with these cars on a track or even a mountain road neither is it as fun to drive as an M5 or an RS4 so whats your point. I think you just like putting down other brands to float your mercedes loyolty....it seems like it at least.

first of all CAR-NNOSSEUR
i mentioned those cars cause you basically said they cant win any other way so they put a huge engine and call it a day..
i just proved to you..allthough its not MB´s first priority to build track capable cars they still CAN.. do not belive they cant.. do you get my point..
obviously those cars are to expensive and powerfull for this coversation..

MATT:
My point is NOTHING.. i just said S65 is the best sedan..to wich i got responds on the other cars being better.. and i shared MY point of view..
now remember that there havent been so many tests on the S65 but those ive read say that its very fun to drive..and handles surprisingly well..
so im not saying its more fun to drive than those 2 others..but dont belive its like the old one.. a soft marshmellow like supsension and a 612hp engine..that is not the case my friend..

ohh and i did not overlook the price..i mentioned it as the pros for the 2 other cars:D

1st off ARTIST I never said Mercedes could build a track
car if I did quote me on it!:t-hands:

2ndly you proved my point for me in regards to power needed for Mercedes to achieve such performance! Lets drop a 475HP engine inside of a S-Class and see how it matches up with a S8 or 760, just enough for it to still have more HP, is this car going to have sum 5.0sec 0 to 60
times then?

Don't get me wrong i'm a fan of the new S65, but for anyone to assume it's all that because of performance would be silly! It doesn't match up with car's handling
wise nearly half it's cost! I like the tech features the new
S65 has to offer, that's why I'm a fan that's it!:t-drive:

I just got back (few minutes ago) from a two and a half hour drive on a 2002 M5. I don't know about the newer model, as i have not driven it yet, but the old M5 soooo rocks. It almost converted me. The only negative thing in the highway is that you constantly find an excuse to shift, whereas you do not have to get out of sixth gear almost 99 percent of the time. Also, coming from a 2004 S600, the M5 engine noise, while so delicious at first, starts geting in the nerves after prolonged driving, as I kept thinging the engine was too rough and something was wrong with it.

Nonetheless, there is no replacement for a manual trans if you want a proper driving experience. I had not driven a manual in almost four years, and yet fel right at home in the M5.

i dont understand your first point?? what do you mean..should i show that you said that MB CAN or CAN'T build track cars

and your point about an equall powerd MB vs audi or BMW..being as fast..yes i belive that..look at the E63 vs M5 they are very even..heck the E55 was even in a straight line..and it had less HP.. ofcourse the M5 is better and faster from certain acceleration points..but its damn near a dead race..much depending on the driver..
bare in mind that MB´s are often heavier and need more power to achive lower figures.. thats not a fault in MB..its just their style.. like it or leave it:D

And i agree with you on the third point..the S65 isnt all that beacuse of the performance.. far from it.. its all that cause its an S class to start with..and then its an AMG..with all that comes with that:usa7uh:

Apologies, I meant to say, I never said they COULDN'T!

So your position is that it's all that because it's a S-Class, and a AMG, that's cool then, so name recognition is your
thing. So I take it your a big fan of Bentley also? Their name rings out alot more than Mercedes!:)

lol man why are you working against me.. i love the S65 for the same reasons you do.. but i like it a bit more..
and yes i like Bentley.. i hate all the VAG bentleys though..cause they arent bentleys to me..
what about you..do you like bentley (haha what a stupid question):D

Not working against ya... Anyway I love Bentleys before
and after (VAG) takeover. But your not the first person to tell me that, the old world Bentleys had that BRIT charm
about them, newer models show a definite change of direction!:)

ýes and we ( i ) dont like that direction..
besides the new azure wich is everything a bentley should be..
i sure as hell hope they wont screw up the Arnage..
ohh and that new coupe..looked very nice on those pics..
so maybe its only the continentall series that bugg me..:D
