The interior trim options are spectacular but this car's dash has one glaring problem, that floating screen for the driver's instruments just looks - frankly - tacked on.

I think this is far better than a whole dash wrapped around it. It looks clean and fresh like this, imo.

I kinda like this S500 AMG line I chose with 21inch rims, anthracite blue metallic, macchiato beige nappa interior with burr walnut glossy brown wood. Total price with the different options 134,250Euros.

Gorgeous spec my friend. Very classy combo.
You guys think I'll be able to get just a W223 front seat :D Would go so well with my new Xbox/PS5 and it looks ridiculously comfy ;)

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could untack it and carry it with you?

Now this looks really sharp.

This car looks prettier and prettier by the day!

And the standard spec is now truly elegant and not the less attractive sister.
I'm particularly fond of the way the standard exterior specification looks. Indeed very elegant and, unlike the W222 generation, one isn't forced to order the AMG line. Back to the roots, I'd say.
Another very positive aspect is the enlargement of the standard equipment. As a package W223 is even less expensive than W222.

That would be my favourite combo: Graphite grey and macchiato beige, 20" Schmiederäder

Unfortunately, you can not order my favourite 20" rims (pic 1) together with winter tires. Not possible.
So one has to switch to 19" rims (pic 2)

So you prefer this exposed display panel to one that's recessed and cowled in the more traditional fashion? I certainly don't - I want my instruments set back in a traditional binnacle.

Wouldn't you say that, if the driver screen is going to be all digital, what Porsche has done with the Taycan looks better than what BMW does covering the driver screen?

Curved, individual screen looks better than iPad screen like on this W223.

I was seriously smitten by the Taycans' instrument screens when I had the opportunity to scrutinize them "in real life" this past spring. Actually, I was really smitten by the interior in general-save the lower B-Pillar cladding (which doesn't really appear to be of "premium" quality).

I prefer what Porsche has done with the Taycan compared with the W223.
That said, I prefer what Porsche has done with the same screen but shrouded in 992 over Taycan.
Ultimately, from a clarity perspective, I retain a preference for cowled instruments like what we still get such as in G05 purely as an example.

Rolf, how does that price compare to a comparable W222? I am trying to determine expected price in US.
This is the price comparison in Germany. The prices are up but if you add in the amount of extra equipment then the new S-class works out cheaper than the W222

The standard equipment now includes the following equipment features:
  • Multibeam LED light
  • Servo closing function of the doors
  • Ambient lighting
  • Digital radio (DAB)
  • MBUX multimedia system
  • Driver assistance package
The equipment options that were already available in the predecessor S-Class mean an added customer value of almost 6,000 EUR. As a result, the S 350d in particular has become cheaper after adjusting for equipment.

As standard, the S-Class has a 65 liter tank (5 liters smaller than the W222). For 116 EUR you get a 76 liter tank.
The ready-to-drive S 350d (W223) weighs 2,020 kg, around 20 kg more than its predecessor. The S 350d 4matic (W223) is around 10 kg more than its predecessor at 2,070 kg. This is partly due to the new 4matic transfer case, which can withstand more torque, but has also become lighter.
The S 400d 4matic also weighs 2,070 kg and is 25 kg lighter than its predecessor.

And they upgraded the car to 18" rims which is another >1.000.- Euro.
Multibeam as well as MBUX/COMAND came as standard on W222.
I wrote it already: I don´t understand why the acceleration is worse as compared to W222. Any ideas? And there is no significant weight saving at all.
