It is obvious in this pic about the chrome pieces someone above mentioned.

From this image I guess that the FL S-class will have a chrome strip through out the bumber linke in C-class. You can notice the holes on the lower portion bumbers to fix the chrome beedings.

^^
Nice find! The photo reveal that the S-class will be getting LED in the lower part of the head light cluster. Kind of like the VW Phaeton. LED day lights it is!! I wonder what they are hiding in the upper part?

An eyebrow like the C-class? :t-hands: Road monitoring cameras for the adaptive suspension technology? :t-hands: Lasers to blow the shit out of the new 7's and A8's on the road? :t-hands::D

LeftLaneNews.com doesn't allow hotlinking, The Artist. ;)

I like the changes from what I can see.
It seems that the turn signals which was located on the side of the headlight is changed to a horizontal strip.
Also nice to see that it will have visible exhaust pipes, which I find lacking in the current non-sport/AMG models.
Don't like the side mirrors, they aren't really an improvement over the current one in design.

It's not a LED daylights, it looks like a LED turn signal. It won't have eyebrows, wouldn't suit the design at all (eyebrows generally connect to a shutline and don't suit the shape of these lights).

I really wonder what is hidden in the upper-part.

And what is the odd misplaced chromed piece next to the two projectors-eyes, could be the famous radar-suspension? This little squared thing we see clearly in hannaz's pic?

I wonder if the definitive S will have those blackened headlamps (would surprise me a lot), and if not why they are using it.

I strongly believe they are indeed testing something serious here.

Thank God, the S won't have double-fogs. The W212 surely won't, either.

But I just noticed something: the FL W221 will have visible Parktronic sensors, why not the hidden ones like the actual S-Class? Not to disturb the new supension, also with radars?

^ The parktronic sensors are not hidden on the current one.

Mmhh, yes, in fact it's an option to have them hidden, I remember. It's only when you have Distronic+ that they are hidden, is that right?

Yes that is correct, when you have Distronic, the car come equip with short range radar sensors which can operate from 0km/h, these sensors are responsible for the complete traffic stop function of the car, and they act as parking sensors as well. Unlike the normal visible sensors, these are hidden behind the bumper and they have almost no delay time so they are more accurate than the normal parking sensors.

Thing is, the grey S I showed above obviously has the Distronic+, yet it has visible Parktronic sensors...

Then I am probably wrong, and I guess the traffice stop function is optional, and if that is the case, it really should be standard.

No, no, the traffic stop is integrated in the Distronic+ (who now can apply the brakes in an emergency case even when the cruise control isn't activated), and induce the hidden sensors. Of that I am sure. Hence my surprise to see both the sensors and the Distronic+ in the FL-testcars...

Maybe the new Distronic (or the headlamps like in the F700) who scans the road for bumps isn't compatible with the current W221 Parktronic tech, so back to normal sensors?

MB are without a doubt up to something. I smell PRE-SCAN being introduced next year. It will make standard adaptive suspension look like ancient technology. The benefits will be huge with the suspension adapted to the road surface well in advance. It is bound to end the F01 and new A8's 15 minutes of fame.

I mean, MB wouldn't be rearranging the entire head light clusters just for looks. The w221 doesn't really feature any ground breaking technology and is badly in need of something unseen. I'm also curious about the appearance of the head light cluster, looks very bare at the moment. Will be fun to see how it end up.

I think BMW is working on their version of it and i'm afraid they might premiere it with the new 7er?:t-hands:

Not happening this fall. Maybe when the car gets facelifted but not in the coming months.

Because the BMW R&D are too busy tweaking iDrive 2.0 instead of investing a good portion of their money into improving comfort.

Tweaking i-Drive 2.0 isn't that much costy btw,i have a feeling that they might surprise us.

I think so to. With nostrils the size of telephone catalogs.:D

Here is some information on the PRE-SCAN system for those who want to know what we're dwelling on about here.

Active PRE-SCAN suspension – another milestone on the way to “flying carpet” comfort characteristics

The most important requirement made on a luxury-class sedan is relaxed and comfortable travel. A high riding quality and high suspension comfort substantially contribute to conserving the individual resources of the driver and his or her companions. Mercedes-Benz is world leader in the area of road roar and tire vibration suppression and suspension comfort: in the Active Body Control (ABC) suspension system, the current models of the S-Class and CL-Class already offer a high-end solution embodying advanced suspension technology.

The F 700 suspension provides an indication of the next major steps towards the future: the newly developed active PRE-SCAN suspension improves the sensitive response to surface unevenness as well as the active stabilization of body movements, raising them another notch.

Laser sensors scan road

The PRE-SCAN function enhances the active suspension with a unique information channel: it permits adjusting the control strategy for uneven stretches lying ahead of the vehicle. For this project the Mercedes-Benz engineers again were inspired by nature. When uneven spots are detected, with PRE-SCAN the car computes the suitable control strategy in advance and adapts its systems to it.

The “eyes” of the active PRE-SCAN suspension are two LIDAR sensors. LIDAR stands for “Light Detection And Ranging” and describes a method for measuring distance which is very closely related to radar. The sensors send out pulsed laser beams in the infrared range, detect the reflected light and compute the distance based on the propagating time.

The eyes of the F 700

The headlamps of the F 700 are a futuristic interpretation of the Mercedes-typical twin-headlamp face. Two vertical rows of linear LED arrays with superposed lens have the function of driving lights. A third vertical row of single high-performance LEDs are the daytime driving lights. Together with the continuous contour lights they give the F 700 an unmistakable appearance even by night. The “eyes” of the F 700 are integrated into the headlamps: these laser scanners gather the roadway data for the active PRE-SCAN suspension. Unlike any conventional automobile this sedan “sees” the surface profile of the road ahead of it.

The driver’s door also “observes” its surroundings attentively. In the base of the mirror of this PRE-SCAN door there is a very compact laser scanner which examines the area in which the door swings open for any obstacles. If collisions threaten, the door is arrested by a controllable hydraulic cylinder.

You know even if BMW introduced PRE-SCAN on the F01 everyone will know it just copied MB,since the latter introduced it a while back with that hideous F700:D
