I searched a bit.

So CLC comes from CL: Coupe Leicht, or Comfort Leicht (should be Komfort, but KL is weird).

So it should be CLK, Coupe Leicht Kurz. Oh Sh#t CLK is another one!!!
So CLC, Coupe Leicht Compact. Yeah, should be Kompact. But C-Class is also for Compact, and it is not the K-Class!!

BTW, E could be for Eleganz...It meant Einspritzung, so Injection, at the beginning, for petrol engined cars.

Still no explanation for ML, GL. Or R, but nobody cares for that one...GLK is GL Kompakt.
A and B, it is obviously because no choice under C-Class.

I think you're right. SLK is I believe Sport Light Kompakt And SL Sport Light

Good point!!

Just a precision: I am pretty sure that S stands for Sonderklasse, which means exceptionnal class. And I think, without certainty, that C is for Compact.

G is for Geländewagen, not only Gelände.

R means Ridiculous. Erhh, well, not sure about that one, but...

Unimog means Universal Motorgerät, universal motorized vehicle.

AMG stands for Aufrecht, Melcher, Grossaspach (Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhardt Melcher, Grossaspach is where Aufrecht is born).

Now, Aufrecht is at the head ot HWA...Hans-Werner Aufrecht. He created it when Mercedes bought AMG in 1999.
It is the company under the DTM cars and some high-end AMG cars like the CLK GTR, the CLK DTM AMG and the next SLR.

According to full press release, the CLC stands for new stand-alone model series...:

In short, a genuine Mercedes-Benz whose price tag of less than EUR 30,000 offers an entry route into the coupé line-up of this renowned brand.

The CLC opens up a new chapter in the success story of the C-Class Sports Coupé, which has enthralled some 320,000 drivers around the world since 2001. It was a conquest model, not least because 70 percent of its buyers had never before opted for a Mercedes-Benz. The two-door model took them by storm, primarily attracting new customers for the brand bearing the famous star. It is one thing to conquer new customers, but maintaining their enthusiasm for the brand over the long term is another challenge. That is why I've said that MB should have done much more for this car since it is now a seperate model series. This is the same thing they did with the CL, which was just an S-Class Coupe until 1997. A convertible might help here, but a new or heavily revised interior would have done the trick. It seems they've update the electronic hardware and what not, and hopefully the chassis will be much better. Let us not forget that the W204 uses the W203 as a starting point but it got a much bigger makeover than this CLC did so it might be possible for this CLC to drive much better than before.

Again, despite my personal disappointment that the W204 interior wasn't used, the facelifted W203 C-Class had a good interior. It wasn't class-leading by any means but it got the job done in the quality feel and impression department: it felt upscale and premium and that's all that matters.

This will very likely be the case here, so I guess I can live with that.

We are not complaining about the quality of the int Chris coz we all know that the FL W203 got a pretty good int quality wise,it's just we are pissed that the new int wasn't used that's all.Btw are we gonna see some really mad CLC63 AMG?

Probably not. The CL203 C32 AMG and C30 CDI AMG didn't sell too well. There's really no big or profitable market for such a powerful CLC. Most people will be more than satisfied with a CLC350 I assume.

Yeah they did. But did it sell well? NO.

Mercedes' is not making an AMG version of the GL-Class, A- or B-Classes, so it is wise to assume that they won't touch the CLC. I think someone who wants a sporty CLC can always order a CLC350 and equip it with an optional AMG body kit. I'm pretty sure Mercedes will offer one for the CLC.
