Maybach 62/62S Maybach 62 S Unveiled

The Maybach 57 (chassis code W240) and 62 (chassis code V240) were the first automobile models of the Maybach brand since its revival by DaimlerChrysler AG (now Mercedes-Benz Group AG). They are derived from the Mercedes-Benz Maybach concept car presented at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show. The concept car was based on the Mercedes-Benz W140 S-Class sedan platform, as were the production models. The models ceased production in February 2013 due to continued financial losses for the brand, with sales at one-fifth the level of the profitable Rolls-Royce models.
The unnecessarily tacky Maybach logos plus the aftermarket screen rubs me the wrong way. It’s enough already that this is an aftermarket chopped 57s that could have been better executed - in my examining of the coachwork in person some 12-15 years ago.

So it was no surprise when literally nobody bought them, aside from some peculiar characters like Gaddafi.

I think or hope that once things settle down and the right ev/ice mix is achieved, Mercedes will once again produce a bespoke Maybach. I agree that the brand could stand on its own now. A super lux SUV and Coupe/Convertible should be up first. Spare no expense and stunning design inside and out. V12 and electric.

Yep that would work. Mercedes has just severely lost their way. It really shows and will continue to show for a few more years. The failure of the 57/62 has not yet been forgotten by them IMO. They got it backwards by allowing the W221 to instantly date the W240. I think they probably should have re-introduced Maybach to the world as they have it set up now as a trim grade on existing Mercedes and then come out with bespoke Maybachs once the brand had been re-established. Asking 400K+ for a long dead brand, with cars that looked last generation wasn't the move.

In that respect, there's an extremely limited margin of movement at the top of the food chain, since even Bentley, with its history and former parity with Rolls-Royce, couldn't sustain itself and had to cancel the Musslane, along with its aspirations to be in the top segment.

The upcoming arrival of Lagonda and how they position it pricing will give an idea, potentially changing everything, and it's almost the only new one "authorized" to be in the elite segment. Jaguar and its new positioning could, in my view, be a new competitor to Maybach. The launch of Alpina and what they do with it (perhaps some bespoke models) could also influence what Maybach decides to do in a few years.

A future Lagonda using an AMG.EA drivetrain is an exciting thought indeed.

Very possible at that. Especially should the Jaguar surprise and fascinate following so much initial skepticism. At this point in time, I find myself rooting for "The JAAAAAG Team".

Off the top of my head, I cannot call ALPINA ever having presented a vehicle that was not fascinating. And very interesting future vehicles will surely be in store. High expectations.

With BMW, Rolls-Royce and ALPINA being an item Mercedes-Maybach is gonna face quite a challenge in the upcoming years.

The S class & GLS Maybach are still doing great against the 7/X7 & the Ghost.

So wish they could make ground up standalone models in an SUV & Sedan format to go up against the Cullinan & Phantom.

The SUV should be Cadillac Escelade ESV sized, All the luxurious tech amenities, insulation & suspension they can provide with a big front axle to A-pillar ratio(Rolls-Royce like) & a V12 in between.

This should also apply to the sedan. It should look something like this to really set the tone :

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
