Maybach 62/62S Maybach 62 S Unveiled

The Maybach 57 (chassis code W240) and 62 (chassis code V240) were the first automobile models of the Maybach brand since its revival by DaimlerChrysler AG (now Mercedes-Benz Group AG). They are derived from the Mercedes-Benz Maybach concept car presented at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show. The concept car was based on the Mercedes-Benz W140 S-Class sedan platform, as were the production models. The models ceased production in February 2013 due to continued financial losses for the brand, with sales at one-fifth the level of the profitable Rolls-Royce models.

Its really unbelievable how quiet the Maybach is, even by modern car standards is whisper quiet. Even quieter than a Tesla lol.

Pointless comparison, against a Rolls Phantom from the same year would have been more interesting, but this ....?

Imperious. Unsurpassed, perhaps. 110% engineering.

Interior quality that's worthy of royalty

You won't see any car nowadays with the amount of wood this car has. It looks terrific inside, with that 2 tone leather and the bright wood is gorgeous for it's age.

That generation of digital instrument though… yikes. It has not aged well. I wish it was analog, as this design warranted it. Sadly, they combined W140 bones with W220 electronics.

Thanks for pointing it out. Yeah, the w220 instrument cluster looks out of place. It would have looked better with w211 dials.

I am rarely a fan of carbon fiber in luxury cars but this was well executed.

This came out in the wrong decade. I bet if a modern version of this was presented, it would be a runaway success
Well said. Right now we have Bentley, Aston, BMW and RR selling reskinned versions of cars for €1-3m.

It's a market that didn't exist when the Maybaxh launched. Just look at market for custom or bespoke G-Classes.

…which begs the question, what are they waiting for?

I wonder what makes Mercedes want to show it off now again. Why not make a long wheelbase G-Class maybach edition?

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
