Maybach 57/62 (W240/V240) Maybach 62 S Unveiled

The Maybach 57 (W240) and 62 (V240) were the first automobile models of the Maybach brand since its revival by DaimlerChrysler AG (now Mercedes-Benz Group AG). The concept car and production models were based on the Mercedes-Benz W140 S-Class. Both models had an "S" (Spezial) option, and additional Landaulet version for the 62 S. Production: April 2002 – February 2013, 3,321 produced.

A nice find..despite the dubious mood surrounding the 57/62, I have always admired the 57 bar some small details as it was the only true 'Grand' Mercedes of the 21st century so far (unlike the current Maybach strategy)..and it has a specific dignified aura imo..despite being based on older tech.

Why though? I was thinking it was Landaulet when I saw the price... Then I saw Singapore. They have it rough over there

Comparison:
Identical spec, but 1 year newer and similar miles.

This 62s used to belong to Singer, Mary J. Blige; I used to see in NYC all the time.

Other (2004-09) Maybach 57s can be had for under $100k. Naturally, the 62 has a premium vs the 57.

Shockingly, the prices of early Phantoms are now parallel to early Maybachs. For years, the equivalent model year Phantom was worth at least $50k than a Maybach second-hand.

Both look quite dated to me now. Despite the cheap prices, a Phantom is still a Phantom; very very conspicuous.

Meanwhile in Sydney... Some P plater drives a Mazda, this P plater driving the Maybach..Probably the cheapest car in his garage.

What's a P plater @Monster ?
Here in Australia, you get your learners licence first, if you past your driving test, you move to the red provisional licence (Red P) for 1 year, then you get the green provisional licence (Green P) before you do another computer based test to get your full licence. So the driver has only been driving for a year and a half max.

Also P plate drivers are not allowed to drive high powered cars, let alone a twin turbo V12 Maybach. I have also seen a P plater driving the Bentayga.

The attention to detail is incredible.
It was nothing short of fabulous..the interior is full of wood/chrome details even in the tiniest spaces, I bet you could spend a good hour and still be discovering new details here and there..I think the terms 'underrated' or 'underdog' do not apply better to any other car except the W240.

That velvet wrap is vomit inducing. Why has it become a thing?

I think it should be said - price of car parts are directly proportional to the vehicle's orginal MSRP. Needless to say, the Maybach was too close to W220 to justify the insane prices.

Very interesting analysis from one of the very first Maybach owners. I originally know Woppum as a supercar guy. 177.000miles (285.000km) in 4 years, wow.

This one doesn't have a partition. What a disaster!

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
